January 2012

This desk calendar is designed so that the main calendar stand can be used as a card and folds easily to fit into a Small Open-End envelope. The box that accompanies the ‘card’ holds note paper and makes the perfect gift for teachers, or anyone who has a desk really.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut a 6-½” x 9-¾” piece of Early Espresso card stock and score along the long side at 3-¼” and 6-½”. Turn the card stock 90o and at 3-⅛” make a cut at 1-¾” from the top of the card stock down to 4-¾”. Move the card stock across to 6” and make another cut the same as the first one you created (Diagram 1).

Step 2

Fold the card stock along all of the score lines. With the base of the calendar stand being the panel without any cuts in it, fold your card into a triangle card folding the cut away sections inward. Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock to 2-½” x 6-¼” and stamp the leaf image from the Paisley Petals stamp set in River Rock ink on two of the corners. On the back of the card stock run a length of Sticky Strip along one of the long edges and adhere three 2” lengths of Always Artichoke ½” seaming binding ribbon to the edge. Using the pencil/pen that you are giving with the gift as a guide, form loops with the ribbon before adhering the Whisper White card stock in place on the base panel.

Step 2

Step 3

To decorate the calendar stand, cut a 2-⅞” x 3” piece of Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper (DSP) and adhere to the front panel of the stand (this is where the calendar will go). Print the calendar on Whisper White card stock. Once printed, cut your mini calendars to measure 2-¾” x 2-¾”. Using the perforating tool from the Cutter Kit, perforate each page of the calendar ⅝” from the top as shown in Step 3 below. Pile all pages of the calendar together (they do not need to be adhered together) and use Sticky Strip to adhere a 2-½” piece of Always Artichoke ½” seaming binding ribbon to the top of January. Punch a Modern Label piece out in River Rock card stock and cut it in half. Score each half of the label at ½” from the tip and adhere the halves to the front of the calendar. Use the 1/16” Circle punch to punch a hole on each of the modern label ends and use two Vintage Trinket button brads to secure the pages of the calendar together. Use Sticky Strip to attach the calendar to the front panel of the stand.

Step 3

Step 4

Cut a 2-⅝” x 2-⅞” piece of Paisley Petals DSP and fold in half on the long side and adhere to the ‘cut away’ section. Cut a 3-¼” x 1-½” piece of River Rock card stock and stamp the leaf image in River Rock ink randomly over it before adhering to the lower front panel of the stand.

Step 4

Step 5

Use Always Artichoke ink to stamp the you’re the BEST! stamp from the Perfect Words stamp set onto a 2” x ½” piece of Whisper White card stock. Cut a 2-½” x 1” piece of Early Espresso card stock and use the Itty Bitty Circle punch to remove all four corners of the card stock. Adhere the greeting to this and then use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach to the front lower panel.

Step 6

To make the box, cut a 5-11/16” x 5-11/16” piece of Always Artichoke card stock and score at 1-½” on all four sides. Trim away as shown in Step 6 and use Sticky Strip to assemble the box base. Cut four 1-¼” x 2-½” DSP panels to cover the box base and adhere in place.

Step 6

Step 7

To make the lid for the box, cut two 3-¼” x 1” pieces of River Rock card stock at and score at ¼” on two of the short sides and one of the long edges of both pieces and cut away the excess as shown in Diagram 2. Cut two of the larger tags from the Two Tags die also in River Rock card stock. Cut the two tags off along the score lines placed on the tags by the die. Score and fold each of the tags at 1-⅜” from the cut that you just made (Diagram 3). Use River Rock ink to randomly stamp the leaf image over all pieces of the lid.

Diagram 2 Diagram 3

To assemble the lid, place Sticky Strip along the three tabs for each side of the lid. Attach one side tab to the front panel of the tag and attach the other side to the same front panel (Diagram 4).

Diagram 4

Attach the second tag piece to the side tabs to form a box. Lastly, adhere the top flaps of the box lid down attaching to the top tabs of the side panels.

Step 8

To decorate the lid, thread a 4-¾” length of Always Artichoke ½” seam binding ribbon through the slits in the lid ends and adhere them to the inside of the box lid. Cover the ends of the ribbon on the inside of the lid with two small ovals cuts from River Rock card stock. Place an Early Espresso Flower Brad in the hole in the front of the lid.

Step 8 The box will now sit in the cut out section of your stand. The box lid can also be placed underneath the box when the paper is in use. You can fill the box with whatever paper you like e.g. sticky notes, lined paper sheets. For my project I cut up sheets of plain computer paper into 2-¾” x 2-¾” pieces and stamped the leaf image on each page in River Rock ink.

Step 9

To fold the calendar stand to fit into the small open-ended envelopes, first remove the box and open up the card, remembering to push the cut out panel ‘out’ and lay this section flat.

Step 9

Step 10

Fold the section with the message and pencil backward under the top folded section like this: Then fit it into the envelope.

Step 10

Step 11

To decorate the envelope flap cut a 1-½” x 3-¼” piece of Paisley Petals DSP and adhere to the flap about ¼” from the top edge. Adhere about ¾” of a River Rock modern label to the center of the flap and insert a Vintage Trinket button brad to finish off.
