TERM 2 – WEEK 9

Executive Staff I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mrs. Stuart to the executive team at our school. Mrs. Stuart will be relieving as our Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) Assistant Principal whilst Mrs.Takacs is on leave.

Social Media The purpose of our school Facebook account is to allow us to provide a snapshot of positive stories about our school. At times we are unable to include photographs of all groups for various reasons – the poor quality of photo or no authorisation by a parent for permission to publish. Thank you to our team of teachers who volunteer their time to post and monitor our social media sites. If you have any queries please contact the school so that we can provide you with accurate information. Our main avenue for communication is via SchoolEnews. We have asked all families to subscribe to SchoolEnews and to download the app so that they can receive alerts and are kept updated on all the wonderful things that are happening at our school. Please note that we are uploading all communication as “newsletters”. When the note is relevant to a particular grade only, we will indicate this in the heading. If you require any assistance uploading the SchoolEnews app, please contact the office and we can offer you support.

P&C Trivia Night It was so lovely to hear such positive comments about the P&C’s Trivia Night last Saturday night. A big thank you to all our parents who attended and supported the evening. Special thanks to Danielle Stonham and Leigh Phillips who organised the event and to Craig Bulmer for being the MC for the evening. It makes me so proud to be part of our school community that comes together and supports one another. I look forward to the year ahead as we celebrate 125 years of quality education in a caring environment.

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (the national data collection) is an annual collection that counts the number of school students receiving an adjustment due to disability and the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. A flyer was sent out to the school community via SchoolEnews last Thursday detailing the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data. Please read the attachment for further information on the NCCD.

End of Term Celebrations All of the students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have participated in Raw Art lessons this week. A big thank you to Mrs. Moss for organising this program. It is such a wonderful program. I have heard nothing but positive comments about how much the students enjoy participating in it. What a wonderful opportunity for our students to develop their creativity.

Pyjama Day Fundraiser Thank you to the SRC for organising our Pyjama Fundraiser yesterday. It was fabulous to see so many students and teachers supporting this event.

Band Concert Congratulations to both our Junior and Senior Bands. Your performances at the Band Concert last night were outstanding. I was very impressed with the standard of the music and really enjoyed not only the bands but also the individual items. I was so proud to see so many students ‘having a go’. A huge thank you to Mrs Millar for co-ordinating the concert and to Andy Yule from Directions in Music who conducted the bands. Our bands are going from strength to strength and the students are obviously enjoying their musical experiences.

Statement of Account – Online Payments We are always looking for ways to improve communication to parents. Burraneer Bay will be now sending student statements of account directly to parents via email. These statement will include a unique link to make secure payment online through the Westpac Parent Online Payment (POP) system (Visa / MasterCard credit and debit cards will be accepted).

It is very important that the email addresses that we have on file are current. If your email has changed, please contact the school office so that your details can be updated.

POP Payments Our preferred method of receiving payments is POP Payments. These payments can be made online using either a Visa or Master Card credit or debit card. To pay this way, go to the front page of the school website, select $ Make a Payment and follow the prompts. There is a delay in the school receiving the payment so please ensure payment is made at least two days before the due date.

TERM 2 – WEEK 9

Debating News

Inter Zone Final The Burraneer Bay Team A (Year 6) competed in the Inter Zone Debating final against South Coogee Public School on Tuesday.

The topic for this debate was ‘That we should punish bad sportsmanship by deducting points from the teams score.’

We were the negative and we found this our most challenging topic so far. It was very difficult to split the two teams. Both teams presented some outstanding arguments and rebuttals that were interesting and diverse making for a very entertaining debate. The win went to South Coogee Public School.

I am extremely proud of both the debating teams for 2018, not just for their successes but also for the way in which they represented our school and their motivation and enthusiasm throughout the term. The teams used their recess, lunch and before school time to prepare and practise for the debates and have developed some great skills for future use. Thank you all and well done Fiona Bosden
