Dear Trinity members,

I would like to thank all of the pastors who have been filling in for us on Sundays. A good thing that comes from being in our situation here at Trinity is that we have many different supply pastors who bring different styles of preaching. I find this interesting and refresh-ing. Thanks to Cindy for getting them scheduled.

Last month I reported that Bob Horton and I met with Pastor Keith Hohly from the synod to get us started in the process of selecting an interim pastor. We have been recommended a pastor from the Kansas City area.

His profile looks as though he would be a good fit for Trinity. The council will meet and discuss the details of what it would take for us to call him.

The response from persons who attended the Quarter-mania have been very posi-tive. Our next one will be November 6th. Please make plans to attend.

Thanks be to God!

Curt Lewis Council President

Council Meeting Highlights, Oct. 11, 2016

By consensus, Council agreed that we can no longer support a full-time pastor.

Quartermania report shows income of $544 from the Oct. 9 event.

We will not host Advent soup suppers this year; Advent services will be at 6:00 pm, using the Holden Evening prayer service.

Sunday School kids will collect money on Oct. 23 for Camp Tomah Shinga’s annual Quarter Challenge.

The will be book fair starting Oct. 23 and running through Nov. 6. These kids’ books are published by Spark House.

Memorial funds from Oscar Albrecht, Myra Sodergren and Wesley Nelson will be moved to the general fund.

Bob Horton & Curt Lewis are working with Keith Hohly to secure an interim pastor.

JB Turner will be repairing some roof leaks and PCI has repaired a broken pipe

on the boiler, along with the seasonal maintenance.

Doorstep is currently selling tamales & cinnamon rolls as a fundraiser. Baker School of Nursing is hosting an open house Oct. 28 in honor of their 25th an-niversary.

David Douglas will be allowed to use our vacant lot for a family celebration

Christmas Eve service will be at 4:00 pm this year.

Sunday School Christmas program will be a congregational carol sing-along, with children participating as they are available. The smorgasbord will also serve as a re-union for Trinity members, past & pre-sent. This is being organized by Shelley Andrews, Roxanne Wolf, and Kathy An-derson.

It was approved to allow the Topeka Po-lice Dept. to use Fellowship Hall for a meeting.

An interesting study will take place when we gather in November. The topic is "Paul and the Power of Failure" based on Acts 7:58-8:3. We'll learn about God's choice of Paul, a man with a dubious past and a shaky present, to lead and guide the early church into the future. We'll talk about "how can Paul's fail-ings help us to come to terms with a God who chooses the unlikely--including you and me?" Come join us Nov. 16, l:30 p.m. in the TLC Library!

THANK OFFERING INGATHERING Sunday, November 20 worship service is the time you are invited to bring your Thankoffering in praise and thanksgiving for God's many daily blessings. Women of Trini-ty along with many Women of the ELCA

will again participate in this annual thank offering to celebrate God's goodness. As we bring our gifts we share in a tradition that goes back at least to the 1800s when Chris-tian women formed "mite" or "cent" socie-ties to support the mission of the church. When others said there was not enough money to carry out the church's work, the women believed otherwise and acted togeth-er. Each woman collected offerings at home. Then on a special date they would come to-gether with their gifts to worship God. So, when Women of the ELCA was formed 30 years ago, we committed to continue this tradition. Together we can do life-changing ministries through our women's organiza-tion. Please use the enclosed envelope for your gift of coins or check. (if check, make to "Trinity Women of ELCA").

Doorstep November 2016

To our Knitters and

Crocheters: as we head into the fall

season (and hopefully cool-er weather someday!) which

will be more conducive to getting out our yarns and

hooks and needles, we could use a few more prayer

shawls. We only have a couple on hand right now, and could always use a few

more.

Thanks!

The beginning of the holiday season is now upon us! Each year Doorstep adopts 250 households from the Christmas Bureau. There are over 700 individuals within these households and we provide Christmas for them all.

This year the Christmas Bureau started taking applications October 24th and will end on November 5th. Sign up is for our neighbors in need who cannot afford to provide a Christ-mas for their families. These are families and individuals who meet the federal poverty guidelines. They are working, but not making a living wage; they are disabled, they are strug-gling to provide the basic needs of life for their families and need a little extra help at Christmas.

Our Christmas Store is a unique experience and different from anything else we do at Doorstep! We need your help with gifts, monetary donations to purchase the food and volunteers to help during the five day process. The Store is such an uplifting experience you can’t help but feel good about your time spent volunteering there!

Please mark your calendars for December 11th – 15th, and watch for our flyers on specific days and times for volunteering. Doorstep’s Christmas Store is possible largely due to the generosity of our member congregations and their members. Neighbors helping neighbors is what Doorstep was founded on and what we continue to do today!

Ronald Lee Strom, 62, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at St. John's Lu-theran Church with a visitation beginning one hour prior at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.

Ron was born on June 17, 1954 in Topeka, KS to Wilbur Alan and Thelma Mae (Johnson) Strom. He married Bonnie Sue Baker on July 11, 1986 and together they had four children. He worked as owner and operator of Strom Construction Services.

Ron loved his time playing, coaching and assisting with kids' sports; baseball and softball. He was a 21-year volunteer for the Beaverdale Little League. He enjoyed his fishing trips to

Minnesota and one recently to Canada. His favorite sports team was KU basketball.

He will be missed by his wife of 30 years, Bonnie; his children, Amy (Jeff), Troy, Aaron and Ann; his grandchildren, Hannah, Abby, Emma and Cooper; his mother, Thelma; his sib-lings, Alan (Mary), Brian (Kimberly) and Sharon (Ron); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur.

While your updater has been quiet, your Task Force has been at work amassing publishing figures, editing submissions, (did you include a one-sentence prayer or biblical reference?,) and other necessary details leading to publication by the end of this Pente-cost season. We are and you will be astonished at the workings of the Holy Spirit within our congregation. There are stories of en-counters with the Holy Spirit, journeys with the Spirit, stories so intimate they could only be submitted anonymously, stories of actual miracles. Truly the Holy Spirit is among us, around us, with us and within us every day. We'll keep you posted.
