Promptness

School starts at 8:00am. Announcements will begin at 7:50. The CIS front doors will be unlocked at 7:30. If your child

arrives at school before 7:30, please be sure they go to the cafeteria.

Your child needs to be in their classroom ready to begin the day by 8:00am. Arriving late repeatedly causes your

student to miss out on classroom instruction and interferes with your student’s education. As stated in the handbook,

each student will be given two free tardies each six weeks. However, there are consequences for further tardies.

Although tardies will not carry over into the next six weeks, records will be maintained to count the total number of

tardies for the school year. Retention may be necessary for combined excessive tardies and absences.

It is very important to your child’s learning that your student attend school every day. CIS has many attendance incentives, such

as popcorn parties, treasure tower tokens, bicycle drawings and gift card drawings to reward students who come to school

everyday. If your child is absent for any reason please be sure to send a note with them the day they return to school. Also, if

you know that your child will be out of school in advance, call the office and let them know.

Attendance Just a few reminders:

Parent Pick-up

A big THANK YOU to all of our parent pick-up parents!!!

Thank you for holding up your signs as the ladies at parent pick up try to call the names of your children. It is

very helpful if the sign is actually held up. Sometimes glare hits the windshield and the name can't be seen.

If your child is a regular parent pick up student, and you don't have a sign for your window, please let someone

out at parent pick up know and they will make a sign for you. This is important, especially at the beginning of a

new school year. We appreciate you!!!

“Principals Helping Principals” Donations Caldwell Intermediate is taking part of not only a nation-wide, but world-wide effort to assist in adopting a school through

an amazing outreach called “Principals Helping Principals”. This outreach is for a school to adopt a school who has been

impacted by Hurricane Harvey and has indicated they will need help with various items for their students and their

students’ families. CIS has adopted J.R. Reynolds Elementary, and we are very excited to join the hundreds of helping hands

in this outreach.

Reynolds Elementary is a Houston neighborhood school located off of 288 and Airport Blvd. This school had approximately

530 students and is a PK-5 school. The Principal, Mrs. Honore, has given a list of needs for her school and the families

which include:

“Basic clothes (underwear, shirts, socks, pants), shoes, gift cards for gas and groceries, baby items (diapers,

food, formula), non perishable food, toiletries, school supplies, navy blue uniform shirts, Khaki bottoms.

We appreciate you all!”

This is a wonderful time to come together as a school/community family to assist Reynolds Elementary in this tragedy. Any

donation you can give either on the list of something else such as toys, games, children’s books etc., would be so wonder-

fully and greatly appreciated for the families in order for them to recover and rebuild. Please drop you donations at the

front office of Caldwell Intermediate School. We will be taking donations for the rest of this month, but may extend this if

necessary. We will keep you updated. We thank you for your help!

CIS Fundraiser We will be kicking off our school wide fundraiser on Wednesday, September 13th. The fundraiser

will run until Monday, October 2nd. Fundraiser delivery date will be Tuesday, October 24th.

More information about fundraiser delivery will be sent home closer to the delivery date.

Fundraiser money is used throughout the year to help supplement our budget needs for the students

& staff of CIS. We use these funds towards the purchase of curriculum items, to help with technology

needs, school supplies, and field trips. Please help CIS by participating in the fundraiser.

Be sure to check your child’s backpack on Wednesday, September 13th and sell, sell, sell!

If you have any questions you can contact Mrs. Schroeder at 567-2403 or [email protected]

CIS Choir 4th and 5th grade students have been auditioning before school for The CIS Hornet Harmony Choir.

Auditions will end the morning of Monday, September 11th. Results for the Hornet Harmony Choir

will be posted on Tuesday, September 12th. Permission slips that were sent home with 4th & 5th

grade students listed the requirements and expectations that must be met for a student to be in choir.

5th grade choir will practice every Monday and Wednesday before school from 7:15m-7:50am, and 4th

grade choir will practice every Tuesday before school from 7:15-7:50am. Choir practice will begin on

Wednesday, September 13th for 5th grade and will continue for both 4th and 5th grades following the

schedule. I’m looking forward to a great year! –Mrs. Faust

No School– Fair Holidays The Burleson County Fair will be September 25-30th. CISD will have school holidays on

Thursday, September 28th and Friday, September 29th to give students and families the time

they need to participate in the Burleson County Fair. Good luck to all participants!

CIS will be hosting their Open House on Tuesday, September 12th. All parents should meet in

the cafeteria at 6:15pm for the Title 1 meeting. After the meeting, parents will be able to attend

sessions in their student’s classrooms. Parents may attend either session in the classrooms,

Session1- 6:35-7:00, or Session 2– 7:05-7:25.

1st Six Weeks Ends The 1st six weeks will end Friday, September 29th. Please be sure to check your child’s grades using the Parent Portal on the Quick Links page of the CISD website. The 2nd six weeks will begin on Monday,

October 2nd. 1st six weeks report cards will be sent home in Monday folders on Tuesday, October 10.

PTO Meeting The first PTO meeting this school year will be before Open House on Tuesday, September 12th at 5:30pm

in the CIS Library. We hope to see you there!

NO HOMEWORK Wednesdays Important to every child’s development is Family Time. Therefore, this year as a campus, we will

have NO HOMEWORK WEDNESDAYS. On Wednesday night, we encourage you to spend quality

time with your child. Turn off the TV, cook a family meal and visit, OR maybe even break out a

board game! Time with you is one of the most memorable experiences they will ever have. School

and family working together is key to our students success!

Box Tops 4 Education We are collecting Box Tops for Education. All box tops must

be neatly trimmed along the dotted lines and turned in to the

office in a Ziploc bag.

If a student turns in 10 box tops they will earn a small prize.

If a student turns in 50 box tops they will receive a homework

pass AND a free ice cream pass.

Looking Ahead: – End of 1st six weeks

– Begin 2nd six weeks
