The discussion will also focus around current funding levels and systems that are in place and what your ideas are about how these can be improved without massive injections of funding. What we will do with the information you give us? The information will be documented in a report that will give an overview of the transgender community’s experience of the clinical and non clinical services and supports they receive. The report will then document a model of service delivery that has been developed through the course of our discussions. The report will include some practical measures to enable this model to be implemented in Queensland within the current funding context. We will also feedback information to the health service providers anonymously so that they can improve their service delivery in the local area. What we won’t do... We cannot:• document word for word every conversation• name contributors or • guarantee that your opinion is included in the final report. If you would like to chat face to face while we are in your community, we ask that you get in touch with Rhondda Lewis on 07 4226 4761 or email [email protected] Rhondda is helping us to arrange meeting times.

9+ Nov Tropical Parade - its lights & its shadows, Tanks Arts Centre, Tank 4. Kuranda based artist, Angela Meyer considers aspects of “paradise” through key signifiers such as colour, botany, landscape and figurative narrative. This exhibition is part of the visual component of a PhD study that seeks to define a sense of the tropics in terms of a lived, observed and felt experience. The journeys in paint embody the artist’s responses to life events around her, in her local, tropical area. Just as lyrics in a song convey specific and abstract narratives, these paintings deliver both contextual and universal themes. The visualisation of what best describes an iridescent tropical aesthetic, including factors like colour, heat and humidity. How these thoughts translate into a visual depiction, is the question Angela has tried to answer through these paintings. LAUNCH: FRIDAY 9 NOV 6PM – WITH MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY TRISH MOLLOY. OPEN: 9AM – 4.30PM WEEKDAYS + 11AM – 3PM WEEKENDS. FREE. More info Angela Meyer on [email protected]

20 Nov Whose Business is Whose? Establishing Right Relationships between Services and People with a Disability and their Families. For many people with disability, having a good and meaningful life includes receiving effective and meaningful support from services. In this practical workshop, participants will have an opportunity to explore how authority can be maintained or delegated to others to form the framework for personalised support. Emphasis will be on clarifying what remains the business of families, what remains the business of the service, what aspects may need to be negotiated, and what aspects should be owned by all. The workshop will try to highlight the possibility of better supports for people with disability when there is shared responsibility and a commitment to building effective and ethical relationships. Jan Dyke from the Community Resource Unit, has gained a broad understanding of the life experiences of people with disability and their families, and of the service systems that support them. She has worked for over forty years in roles of therapist, service provider, lecturer, consultant and advocate, as well as being involved very personally in a number of people's lives. Jan has been part of the development of formal advocacy in Queensland since its inception and continues to assist people involved with small, personalised services and advocacy organisations that try to make a real and sustainable difference to the lives of people with disability.
