8 – 9 Apr Youth Mental Health First Aid Course - We will be conducting the Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course on 8 & 9 and also 23 & 24 April 2013. This 14hr training session (2 full days) will be held at Level 3, 85 Spence St, Cairns in the HHOT Conference Room.. A small fee of $30.00 to cover resources and morning and afternoon tea will apply. What is Mental Health First Aid? “Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help given by a member of the public to a person who is developing a mental illness, experiencing a mental health crisis or has an on-going mental health problem. 9 Apr The Building Safer Communities Regional Action Team Committee would like to invite you or a representative from your organisation to attend the Safer Communities Planning workshop. 11.00am to 1.00pm, Atherton Boardroom, Tablelands Regional Council Building, Mabel Street, Atherton. At the planning workshop you or your representative will be asked to identify your organisations priorities for the Tablelands for 2013. To identify what issues you think need to be addressed in areas such as safety, crime prevention, health and wellbeing for the Tablelands region. Your input will also assist us to review and update our Strategic Plan 2012. Background - In 2008, at the request of the Queensland Police Service, Tablelands Regional Council agreed to participate in the Queensland Crime Prevention Strategy. The intent of this program is to partner with the Community, NGO's and Government agencies including the QLD Police to share the responsibility for preventing crime, reducing the fear of crime and building safer communities by promoting community safety across the Tablelands region. The primary purpose of this initiative is the enhancement of community safety. The Safer Communities group meets monthly and is comprised of representatives from business, community services and government agencies with a focus on identifying and implementing projects which address the underlying causes of crime and fear of crime in the Tablelands Regional Council region. This committee is chaired by Cr Marjorie Pagani and the committee provides a strategic link between Council’s Community Planning & Development section and key community stakeholders to co-ordinate the gathering of relevant evidence, information sharing, identification and co-ordination of projects to address priority issues. The objectives of this initiative are to increase the perception that the Tablelands is a safe place for families to live, work, play, visit and to retire. To provide a mechanism for collaborative processes of community, NGO's and government agencies on the journey to building safer communities on the Tablelands and to support the operation of the Tablelands Building Safer Communities Action Team. Expected outcomes include increased collaboration and co-ordination, strategic oversight and support for local partners regarding building safer communities and ultimately better outcomes for Tablelands Communities.
