Conclusions

• The number of departments offering graduate control courses is slowly declining in the U.S.

• The job market for the systems area is still healthy, mostly in traditional ChE areas

• Simulation is a critical part of a graduate control course – opportunity for sharing courseware

• Web-based modules can supplement graduate courses – sharing of information to develop virtual textbook

• Distance education could enhance graduate education by sharing expertise and content on specialized topics.

– High load, education on “back burner”?– Many want to “polish” their material

• Various older books available– Other books and chapters that may be useful?

• Community driven resources (process control wiki)– Distributed contributions and editing– Reviewers: Not traditional peer review system

• Community news / research / career resource– Community moderated, community generated content– Reviewers: CACHE already exists

• Grow into larger community (CAST 10, etc.)Result: Not recommended for funding, need new vision?

Supported: CACHE effort with multiple industrial participants
