This Level 3 qualification insupporting individuals with learningdisabilities. The units offered, mirrorthose offered within the learningdisability pathways of the Health &Social Care diplomas. This courseis suitable for people aged 16 - 18years and those aged 19 and over.

Understanding DisabilityLegislationCommunication and PlanningThese qualifications are suitablefor people who come into contactwith individuals with learningdisabilities as part of their job,supervised workers with someexperience/ knowledge in socialcare or those seeking work in thefield of Health and Social Care orworking with children, who willhave some work experiencealongside.

Course Leader profileSamantha EmsleyI have been trained and involvedwithin the childcare sector for 15years and achieved the KirkleesLevel 3 Quality AssuranceCertificate in Childcare throughwhich I supported and mentoredother learners. Through enjoyingthe experience of supporting othersto improve their own outcomes, Icompleted the PGCE atHuddersfield University and haveworked for the last five years withinthe childcare and Health team hereat Calderdale college. My passionis inspiring learners to reach theirfull potential and to become aworthy practitioner within the caresector.

Entry RequirementsLearners must be 16 years andabove, school leavers will need aGCSE grade D in English or a Level1 Functional/Key Skills Englishqualification. Learners will alsoneed to provide 2 references andcomplete a DBS (Disclosure andBarring Service) check.

Interview ProcessYou will be invited to an interview with a specialist tutor, which willgive you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have inregards to the course.

Questions & AnswersHow is the course assessed?The course is unit based and assessed using a variety of methods,including written assignments plus assessments in the workplace.

Are there any opportunities for progression?They provide a direct progression route to Level 3 Diploma in Healthand Social Care or the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Individualswith Learning Disabilities.
