Executive SummaryAcross Europe and around the world, service providers are more successful because they’ve implemented CA Unified Infrastructure Management (CA UIM). In this paper, we invite you to meet some of the providers in Europe that are profiting from CA UIM. Hear from the firms’ executives and find out why they chose CA UIM—and why they’d do it again.

Introduction: Service Providers Scale Services, Revenues and Profits with CA UIMThe savvy service provider leader understands that things like meeting service level commitments, delivering innovative new services, maximising operational efficiency and increasing business agility aren’t just nice to have, they’re critical ingredients for revenue growth and business success in the application economy. Many of the most successful service providers have chosen CA UIM because it’s a monitoring platform that works to their advantage as they seek to deliver more services and value, and expand revenues and profits. Service providers choose CA UIM because it helps them:

• Expand their service catalogue. CA UIM represents a single, unified solution and architecture that can power an extensive set of monitoring services. CA UIM supports more than 140 technologies and environments, including physical and virtual servers, networks, storage, databases, applications, user experience, public and private clouds, big data environments, power and cooling infrastructure, mainframes and more.

• Scale operations and revenues. CA UIM features an efficient, multitenant architecture that has been proven to scale to support global deployments and hundreds of thousands of devices with a single instance. It’s a solution that enables service providers to support more users, devices, transactions, environments and customers.

• Delight customers. Service providers leverage CA UIM to gain a unified view of their clients’ environments, so they can manage service levels proactively, spot and pre-empt issues and speed repair. Further, they can deliver the sophisticated reporting, dashboards and portals that provide more value and build more trust with customers.

CA UIM delivers powerful benefits to service providers.

• Speed innovation. A survey of European service providers found that 60 percent of respondents felt that speed of adoption is a key factor leading customers to work with external service providers.1 However, to accelerate their customers’ businesses, service providers have to speed their own operations. CA UIM provides the efficiency, sophistication and flexibility that enable service providers to grow more agile and responsive to dynamic customer requirements.

• Differentiate offerings. For many service provider businesses, competition continues to get more intense, and many traditional offerings are becoming commoditised. Sixty-five percent of European MSPs feel that lack of differentiation is an impediment to their business’ growth.1 With CA UIM, organisations can deliver compelling, high-value managed services that help establish differentiation in increasingly crowded markets.

• Enhance margins. With CA UIM, service providers can standardise on an easy-to-use platform that offers comprehensive coverage. By reducing the cost and complexity of managing multiple point tools, service providers can boost staff efficiency and improve margins.

On top of all this, CA UIM is backed by CA Technologies, a vendor with a pervasive presence across service provider markets. CA has a proven track record of truly partnering with its service provider customers, offering not only category-leading solutions but the enablement resources, flexible pricing, consulting and support that they need to gain maximum value from their investments and optimal market traction for their CA-powered services.

Many reasons. Many benefits. One solution.Browse the following pages to see why leading European service providers have adopted CA UIM and how they benefitted as a result. This document features profiles on the following organisations:

AXSOS. AXSOS provides its customers with a range of IT services, focusing on ensuring applications deliver optimal user experiences. With CA UIM, the company can efficiently manage clients’ infrastructures and manage performance within the context of business services.

BPSolutions. BPSolutions delivers a range of cloud offerings and managed services, specialising in supporting mission-critical environments. For more than five years, the company has relied on CA UIM to support both internal and client infrastructures, and the solution has been instrumental in helping BPSolutions expand services and business growth.

What value-added managed services does AXSOS offer?

We are focused on delivering user-oriented IT services to small and midsize enterprises. We work with customers across Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Middle East, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

We believe every service we provide should ultimately help the user. For example, if you’re an accountant, you need a strong ERP system to get your work done. The system should perform well and efficiently support user workflows and objectives.

We work with our customers to identify and optimise those applications that are most critical to their businesses. We help ensure these applications run smoothly so they deliver maximum business benefit.

We help customers achieve these objectives by delivering IT services in three areas: security, infrastructure and custom software development. Within our infrastructure category of solutions, we offer ITIL-based service desk software and services, business service management (BSM), IT process automation and more. In addition, we give customers the flexibility to choose from SaaS, managed services and hosted delivery models.

CA UIM Helps AXSOS Optimise Operational Efficiency and the User Experience

COMPANY PROFILEFor AXSOS AG, the success of an IT solution is gauged by how well it serves the user. AXSOS delivers IT services that enhance the user experience and business results. We offer user-oriented solutions in three main business areas: IT security, IT infrastructure and custom software development.

6 | PROFILES IN PARTNER SUCCESS | APRIL 2017 ca.com

Why did you choose CA UIM?

First and foremost, we chose CA UIM because of its architecture and how it supports our user-oriented BSM offerings. CA UIM enables us to manage our clients’ infrastructure efficiently, and within the context of business services. CA UIM equipped us with the capabilities we needed to connect business services with their underlying infrastructure components, and to measure response time from the end users’ perspective. With these capabilities, we can help clients more quickly detect faults and even prevent them—which means performance and availability of critical business services are enhanced.

AXSOS needed a flexible and comprehensive monitoring solution for a wide mix of environments, including virtualised, cloud and mobile device management systems.

With CA UIM, we can use one platform, but track performance and availability from multiple angles. CA UIM enables us to look at a business service in a holistic fashion by integrating visibility into NetFlow data, system metrics and end user response times. This gives analysts great insights, so they can quickly identify where issues are and where to focus remediation efforts. As a result, they can better ensure maximum user productivity and satisfaction.

We also needed a monitoring solution that was efficient, and more or less self running, and CA UIM delivered on those requirements. We saw that the solution was very easy to deploy and use, which was very important.

CA UIM also offered the critical integration capabilities we required. For example, we were already using CA Service Desk, and CA UIM offered efficient integration with this offering, which equipped us with a complete IT service management solution.

In addition, CA UIM offered efficient integration with CA App Synthetic Monitor. We use CA App Synthetic Monitor to track web applications and SaaS services, including those we deliver and those our customers rely on from external service providers. For example, one of our customers runs an online shopping site that relies on external services to enrich its content, and we can monitor the availability of these external services for them with CA App Synthetic Monitor. In addition, we use the solution to publicly publish the statistics of our service availability, which is a great way to demonstrate how

we back up our service level commitments. (Follow this link to see the AXSOS status page.) These online dashboards provide an effective marketing vehicle for our business. Alarm and performance data from CA App Synthetic Monitor is seamlessly integrated into our CA UIM environment, which gives us unified visibility into performance and availability of end-user services, web applications and IT infrastructure.

How is AXSOS using CA UIM?

CA UIM is part of the foundation of all our user-oriented BSM and IT infrastructure monitoring service offerings. We deliver monitoring capabilities of CA UIM to our customers as a SaaS offering, and we use the solution to monitor our customers’ environments, our internal environments and the services we deliver from our data centre. For example, we provide service-desk capabilities to customers as a service. We use CA UIM to monitor the end-user experience of the services running in our environment.

We offer customers complete flexibility in how they consume our monitoring solutions, delivering three layers of services. First, we offer a SaaS offering that customers can subscribe to. Second, we offer services on top of this SaaS offering, including helping customers with all upfront monitoring configuration and implementation as well as ongoing updates and maintenance. Third, we offer complete outsourced IT monitoring, managing all configuration and maintenance as well as alarms and remediation. All three of these offerings are powered by CA UIM.

We use CA UIM to monitor the full scope of IT systems and services. We monitor network performance via NetFlow data from our firewall. We monitor servers running all operating systems, including IBM Power Systems™, Linux® and Microsoft Windows®. We monitor networks, storage and all kinds of applications and application servers. In addition, we rely on CA UIM to do top-down monitoring of our clients’ most critical business services using the solution’s end-user response monitoring capabilities.

Further, CA UIM supports our DevOps efforts. We use the solution to monitor end-user response times in development, testing and production. As a result, we can spot right away if any errors or performance issues arise when applications move into a different environment. This helps us better ensure an optimised user experience and it streamlines our development and delivery efforts.

“ CA UIM enables us to more quickly and profitably introduce new, high-value services for clients.”

What have you been able to do with CA UIM that you couldn’t do before?

Our prior monitoring solutions lacked the flexibility we needed to meet our customers’ evolving requirements and our business objectives. To support our customers’ increasingly complex IT infrastructures, we needed deeper, end-to-end-monitoring of a mix of environments—including virtualised, cloud and mobile infrastructures—as well as end-user response and BSM capabilities. Our prior solutions also lacked support for multitenancy and SLA management reporting.

We needed to have a more flexible, dynamic and transparent monitoring solution that would help us cost-effectively monitor our customers’ infrastructures. With our prior monitoring tools, getting new services up and running was a painful experience. We had a hard time trying to automate the steps needed to install monitoring agents on target systems. Further, we had to do the configuration locally on each system.

With CA UIM, the process is much easier and faster. We can deploy monitoring probes in an automated fashion. We can use a central console to drag and drop probes, and centrally manage monitoring policies. Now, when a new customer server comes online, CA UIM automatically detects it and adds it to the monitoring environment, without our having to go to the management console. With the solution, we can centrally manage configuration policies, and have them automatically applied to specific elements monitored.

What ROI did AXSOS realise from its CA UIM investment?

We need to make sure we continue to reduce our time to market and accelerate our customers’ time to value. When customers need new services, we need to get them up and running quickly. To deliver prompt, effective service to our customers, we can’t waste time on basic infrastructure tasks. With CA UIM, we can maximise our service delivery and operational efficiency, so we can ultimately spend more time focusing on creating value for customers—instead of working on keeping the lights on.

In addition, with its efficiency and comprehensive capabilities, CA UIM enables us to more quickly and profitably introduce new, high-value services for clients. For example, the solution made it easy to respond to a customer’s requirement for monitoring their printers. Now, we offer a service that tracks printer consumables, generates alerts when supplies are running low and handles ordering the required supplies for the customer.

Ultimately, CA UIM has enabled us to deliver user-oriented services that provide significant value to our customers and differentiate our business from competitors.

What value-added managed services does BPSolutions offer?

In the Netherlands, we are seeing a big switch, with customers moving from traditional IT to new consumption models. Business leaders want to be able to turn on new services when they need them and turn them off when they don’t. They want to deploy applications like SAP HANA, but they want to consume them as a service rather than having internal IT teams implementing and supporting the technology. At the same time, when running these types of applications, privacy and security concerns are high, so there’s no way they’re going to move these services to a public cloud.

We are a partner our clients rely on to tackle these demands. We offer a mix of consulting services, solutions and cloud and managed service offerings. We can run applications in our data centres and deliver them as a service to clients. We enable clients to move to operating expenditure models, while leveraging dedicated, private environments. Through our managed services, we offer 24x7 support of hybrid IT environments—including on-premises infrastructures and cloud services—as well as the applications running in these environments.

CA UIM Fuels Innovative Cloud and Advanced Managed Services for BPSolutions

COMPANY PROFILEBPSolutions specialises in supporting mission-critical, 24x7 environments, delivering an extensive range of IT consulting services and solutions, cloud offerings and managed services. Through these offerings, we help customers realise zero-downtime operations, leverage big data, transition efficiently to the cloud and accelerate digital business transformation.

9 | PROFILES IN PARTNER SUCCESS | APRIL 2017 ca.com

BPSolutions helps customers accelerate innovation in two ways. First, by letting us handle ongoing IT infrastructure support, customers can free up internal staff time to focus on more strategic efforts. Second, we deliver the advanced solutions that fuel innovation. For example, we help establish big data analytics environments that enable customers to capture, manage, analyse and gain value from massive amounts of data. We also offer a business innovation framework that enables clients to take a phased approach to cloud services. We start by helping to increase maturity in their processes, and equip them to make the move to fully outsourced environments.

We’re focusing on working with companies that have complex environments, including businesses in such industries as electronics and manufacturing, healthcare and retail. We serve companies throughout the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg) region.

Why did you choose CA UIM?

We needed to establish a monitoring platform that would enable us to ensure optimal service levels of our customers’ applications, including those running in clients’ complex, hybrid IT environments as well those hosted in the BPSolutions cloud. In addition, we needed to leverage a platform that would enable us to efficiently and profitably expand our service offerings and support additional clients—otherwise our services wouldn’t be sustainable.

We assessed a number of other monitoring platforms, and found they presented significant challenges. On one hand, some vendors lacked maturity, or their solutions didn’t provide the coverage and capabilities we required. On the other hand, there were other solutions that were very expensive and required enormous effort to get up and running.

We chose CA UIM because it’s a leading, enterprise-class tool that offers the robust capabilities that were essential in delivering valuable services to our customers. At the same time, the solution offered the efficient deployment and administration and cost effectiveness that enabled us to establish profitable service offerings.

CA UIM features subscription-based pricing that allows us to align service delivery and cash flow with the way our customers want to consume IT: as a recurring operational expense rather than an upfront capital expense. The solution’s pricing and

packaging also meant we didn’t have to make a large upfront purchase, and that we could easily expand our implementation as our business grows.

Another key factor in our decision was the solution’s multi-tenancy support, which was instrumental in enabling us to efficiently and securely support multiple customers through a single implementation. In addition, because it offers monitoring coverage that spans from the data centre to the cloud, CA UIM helps us efficiently and effectively serve our expanding client base.

The fact that the solution offered integration with service desk tools was also a significant advantage in helping streamline and automate ticket generation and remediation efforts. Finally, CA UIM was one of the few solutions that offered support for the IBM AIX® platform. We have a large base of customers that use AIX, so this support was critical.

How is BPSolutions using CA UIM?

Every managed service we deliver is based on CA UIM. In the end, we have SLAs with clients; we need to make sure their business is always up and running smoothly. Their environments are getting more complex, which means we need a very smart platform for managing availability and performance, and that’s exactly what we got by putting CA UIM in our operations control centre.

We also use CA UIM to manage clients’ big data environments, including those running SAP HANA, Hadoop and Apache Spark. With CA UIM, we can check whether big data environments are up and running, whether business continuity sites are available, and even do monitoring of the user experience, which provides invaluable insights—big data analytics is all about uptime and performance.

The tool can also easily be customised to our clients’ requirements. For example, with CA UIM, we were able to create a custom dashboard for a client in the health care industry. The dashboard gives executives an at-a-glance view to see if a critical business service is up and running, and, if needed, technicians can use the dashboard to quickly drill down to get details on specific infrastructure elements. With CA UIM, we can even create our own probes. For example, a client was using a specialised backup application, and we were able to efficiently create a probe that could monitor the application’s availability and performance.

What ROI did BPSolutions realise from its CA UIM investment?

The return on our CA UIM investment has been huge. It has absolutely had a direct contribution to our profitability. In our markets, we’re seeing that the shift to managed services and cloud services is happening very quickly. While we continue to offer traditional IT solutions, our cloud and managed services are where we’re seeing the bulk of our business growth—and CA UIM is a direct contributor to this area of our business.

CA UIM plays a significant role in our ability to deliver and demonstrate value. Our operations control centre functions as our business card. We invite clients and prospects to come here and see how we manage environments. Our services completely rely on CA UIM, and the solution’s sophisticated capabilities demonstrate the overall sophistication of our services and value.

Finally, CA UIM has delivered significant operational benefits. With CA UIM, we can operate more efficiently and effectively. We are able to resolve critical customer issues much faster with CA UIM. Plus, by analysing historical monitoring data, we can better preempt issues from occurring.

What have you been able to do with CA UIM that you couldn’t do before?

Before deploying CA UIM, we’d used all kinds of point solutions. This led to a lot of complexity and it made it difficult for us to meet SLAs. By employing CA UIM, we were able to work with a single tool that offered all the coverage we required. Plus, it enabled us to automate tasks and leverage integration with service desks and other tools. This has been vital in helping boost operational efficiency. Ultimately, CA UIM helped accelerate our business growth and rapidly expand services to our clients.

What value-added managed services does CSS offer?

The reality is that establishing optimised IT environments—and keeping them running optimally—is difficult, particularly given all the different directives, fire drills and administrative tasks IT staff have to deal with on a daily basis. Further, when they’re struggling to keep pace with current demands, IT teams are ill-equipped to support their company’s critical digital business transformation initiatives.

CSS delivers the expert, reliable services that organisations need to ensure their IT infrastructures stay optimised, so they deliver maximum return on investment and better support business objectives. By offloading these efforts and gaining sophisticated capabilities, IT staff members can spend more time on the strategic efforts and innovations that help the business compete more effectively in the application economy.

We focus on delivering highly optimised ITSM platforms that include tightly integrated monitoring, service desk and notification capabilities. We handle upfront and ongoing configuration efforts, so our customers’ staff can eliminate these tasks from their daily workloads. We ensure platforms stay agile and current, so they’re always tightly aligned with customers’ evolving business workflows and IT environments.

12 | PROFILES IN PARTNER SUCCESS | APRIL 2017 ca.com

“ We chose CA UIM, first and foremost, because of its multitenancy capabilities, which are vital in helping us efficiently and securely support our client base.”

Where other service providers may actually consume monitoring data and handle ongoing system maintenance and remediation, we focus on delivering this data to our customers and partners. Further, we dedicate our expertise to ensuring the monitoring data being delivered is highly optimised, meaning we filter out the noise and false alarms, we establish tailored thresholds and we track the most important metrics. As a result, customers receive the most accurate, actionable monitoring data and alarms possible.

Why did you choose CA UIM?

Since we founded our company, CA UIM has been the primary monitoring technology we’ve used. We chose CA UIM, first and foremost, because of its multitenancy capabilities, which are vital in helping us efficiently and securely support our client base. Plus, CA UIM offers the scale we need to continue to add more clients, devices and users to our monitoring environments. These capabilities benefit our customers and they benefit our business.

CA UIM also offers deep and broad coverage out of the box, enabling us to monitor our clients’ entire infrastructure stacks and hybrid IT environments. We don’t care where the technology stack is, we just monitor it. We can support customers, whether they are running systems on their premises, leveraging cloud services like Microsoft Azure™ or Amazon Web Services, or employing a mix of these approaches.

13 | PROFILES IN PARTNER SUCCESS | APRIL 2017 ca.com

How is CSS using CA UIM?

CA UIM is the core technology that underpins our managed services business. When customers leverage this service, they can count on CSS operating their back-end monitoring infrastructure on a 24x7 basis. We have teams in the U.K., the U.S. and Australia to provide this around-the-clock coverage.

Particularly for the larger organisations we work with, executives are looking for service-level views. They want to visualise how a given service is operating in their environment. For example, if you look at the underlying architecture of a Microsoft Exchange implementation, it is not just reliant upon applications, but operating systems, servers, networking equipment and more.

With CA UIM, we can give our customers a topographic chart that makes it easy to visualise how a service, and all the underlying components, are performing. For operators, these views are vital: If an issue arises, they can see exactly where it’s occurring, so they can put a remedy in place before there’s an impact on the business. Further, this service-level visibility is critical for the business leadership within our client organisations. With CA UIM, we can give executives the visibility they need to hold internal teams and external service providers accountable for the service levels being delivered.

What ROI did CSS realise from its CA UIM investment?

CA UIM is really the only monitoring solution we’ve used. We’ve been loyal to the solution from day one. The revenues realised through our CA UIM investment have been attractive. With the solution’s straightforward pricing and packaging model, we can profitably scale. Plus, when we take on additional customers and add 100 or 1000 servers, we know exactly what the cost will be. This straightforward pricing ultimately means costs grow linearly, and margins grow exponentially.

CA UIM makes it easy to tailor monitoring to specific customer requirements, but it also enables us to leverage templates and standard workflows to maximise repeatability. As a result, we can offer very fast time to market and time to value. Ultimately, CA UIM is enabling us to deliver compelling value and build a profitable business.

What have you been able to do with CA UIM that you couldn’t do before?

CA UIM is the only solution that offered the ability to deliver high-value monitoring services with maximum operational efficiency. I have extensive experience with enterprise monitoring suites and the reality is that with those other alternatives, it would take a number of specific tools to provide the coverage and capabilities CA UIM provides. If we were going to work with these other suites, it would quickly become a management nightmare, not only in terms of initial implementation but from an ongoing operations perspective. With CA UIM, we get one architecture that’s easy to implement and manage over the long term.

On the other end of the spectrum, other single-architecture monitoring platforms simply can’t match the sophistication of the capabilities CA UIM delivers. For example, they lack multitenancy support, which is such a critical component to our business. Quite simply, CA UIM is wholly unique in its blending of power, comprehensive coverage and efficiency.

Another advantage is that the solution is highly configurable. No two implementations are ever the same; each client has a unique architecture and requirements. Because we have so much experience with the product and in the ITSM arena, we can configure CA UIM so our customers benefit by getting maximum horsepower out of the solution. CA UIM is very feature rich. Often, when internal teams deploy CA UIM themselves, they may only be putting 10 percent of the capabilities to use; we help customers realise 100 percent of the solution’s value.
