Relevance: The scheme was a significant infrastructure project encompassing a whole range of competencies including site clearance demolition, earthworks, piling, highway construction, and foul and surface water drainage, provision of utility infrastructure, reinforced concrete foundations, superstructure assembly, traffic management and extensive landscaping. The actual construction site was located adjacent to the existing Oakwood Leisure Park where the operational needs of site demanded robust TM and security arrangements. Other significant elements of the contract included: Accelerated works owing to short programme. Provision was made for utility infrastructure and JBHL coordinated with Oakwood M & E staff to ensure that they attended site whenever their input was needed. Conversion of an existing building into a shop, toilets and photo kiosk. Challenges Met / Solutions Provided: All surplus excavated materials on site were recycled and used either as fill or for landscaping purposes. This sustainable approach was in compliance with our Site Waste Management Plan and was fully endorsed by the EA. Where possible we used recycled materials during the construction process which helped reduce the overall cost to the Client. We were able to work with the Client in selecting the most effective septic tank and pumping station arrangements for the project from our experience gained as one of DCWW’s framework contractors. Oakwood   Employees   to   determine   location   of   buried  utilities  and  other  infrastructure.    

§ Detailed  planning  and  programming  for  the  contract.  § Fostering   a   close   working   relationship   with   the   client,  

designer  and  CDM  Coordinator  to  mitigate  potential  delays  with  their  on-­‐going  design  works.  

  The   work   was   predominately   undertaken   during   the   theme   park  closed   season   which   helped   in   terms   of   minimising   the   impact   of  construction   work   on   live   traffic   users   and   patrons.   The   following  challenges  were  encountered  during  the  contract:  

§ Changes  had  to  be  made  to  roof  design  to  help  ensure  that  the   right   ambience   effects   were   experienced   within   the  ‘Pirate  Chase’  ride.  

§ Close  liaison  with  the  Client’s  specialist  theming  contractors  in  relation  to  H,S&E,  access  and  programming.  

 Principal  Supply  Chain  Partners:   JBHL   delivered   substantive   elements   of   the   contract   using   our  directly  employed  workforce  and  plant  fleet.  The  following  activities  were  subcontracted:  

• Structural  steelwork  assembly  • Painting  and  decorating  • Piling    works  • Mechanical/Electrical  work      • Surfacing  works  

    All  subcontractors  are  included  on  JBHL  Approved  Supply  Chain  List.
