New Tutors Trained at Aquinas Literacy CenterFri., Aug. 25, 6–9 p.m. and Sat., Aug. 26, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Aquinas Literacy Center, a nonprofit literacy organization in McKinley Park, knows the value that volunteer tutors bring to our organization. Without the support of many volunteers, Aquinas would not be able to carry out its mission of empowering adults to learn English and become more engaged in their community. Recently Aquinas trained ten new volunteer English Literacy tutors to help address the critical societal need of adult education in English as a Second Language. From August 2016 to April 2017, Aquinas trained 72 new tutors. Aquinas Literacy Center continues to grow as more students register and participate in supplemental learning. Volunteer tutors are needed to instruct limited English proficient adults learners for 90 minutes per week at our center, 3540 S. Hermitage Avenue. All instruction is one-on-one and training is provided. Knowledge of a second language is not required; all instruction is in English. Tutors must attend both days for certification. Fo r more information, please contact Sabrina Poulin at 773-927-0512 or email her at [email protected].
