HOW IT ORIGINATED/BEGAN?

Community psychology began during the 1900s as a growing group of psychologists unsatisfied with the ability of clinical psychology to address broader social issues.

In 1965, a meeting of psychologists at the Swampscott Conference was the official beginning of contemporary community psychology.

At this meeting, they concluded that psychology needed to take a stronger focus on community and social change to address mental health and well-being.
