• For a six week period :– 916 reports of anti-social behaviour– 406 (44.3%) ‘youth’ related– 105 (11.4%) ‘alcohol’ related– 85 (9.2%) ‘alcohol’ & ‘youth’ related

behaviour– 38 were hoax calls– 86 were related to neighbours– 64 vehicle nuisance– 101 other

• These statistics and images present a negative picture of young peoples behaviour and reinforce stereotypes
• We want to challenge these by creating positive news stories about young people who live and go to school in Accrington

Alcohol The Law and Young People
To buy alcohol you have to be
18
If you attempt to buy alcohol
and you are not 18 you are
breaking the law
You could get an £80 fine
If you ask somebody over 18
To buy you alcohol and they do , they
are breaking the lawThey could get an

If you are under 18 & drinking alcohol in a public place
the police can take the alcohol off you and pour it away.
They may also take unopened
bottles from you
If you are aged 10-15 and drinking in a public place the
police can take you home to your
parents and give you a £30 fine
Any pub or shop that sells alcohol to
somebody under 18 breaks the law and can be fined up to
£5000. They could also lose their licence to
sell alcohol
If you are under 18 and working in a shop it is against the law for
you to sell alcohol without supervision.

• Raising awareness in schools
• Work with the local media to make sure young people get fair representation
• Involve a range of local partners to make a difference to the local area
• Targeting police patrols where underage alcohol consumption and anti-social behaviour is an issue
• Trading Standards officers to support shopkeepers in refusing to sell to underage young people and anyone over 18 attempting to purchase for a young person
