Our Annual Maker of Change Awards Banquet was held 10/21/17 at the CASI building: 1613 E. 8th St, honorees were awarded for all the hard work they have done to improve communities of Clark, Floyd & Harrison Counties. The honorees for 2017 were: Sharon Levavell-Marshall, Maury Weedman & Pauletta Feldman, Paul & Michele Stensrud, Shari McCutcheon, Sharnese Cook, Neil Curry’s Automotive Service, Annette Lawler, Dawn Spyker, Gary Leavell, Christy Buyck, and Dee Dennison Grisham. Event Pictures CASI would like to say, “thank you” to those who made donations, volunteered their time or attended the event. 250 people were in attend- ance. Our event was a success. One of the programs support- ed by this event proceeds is the Family Development/ Crisis Assistance Program. It assists persons/ families and veterans having financial short falls with utilities, eviction prevention, or other critical needs. Southern Indiana (CASI).

receiving services and 31 plus

Community Action of South-

Academy held its kickoff event

on September 29, 2017 at

Clarksville High School. Stu-

dents in the fourth, eighth and

ninth grades attended. There

were snacks, inflatables, Ivy

Tech representatives, and mu-

sic provided by DJ Tim Still.

Curt Wells is the Life Literacy

Academy Manager. He was

asked what he enjoyed from

today. Curt stated, “It was awe-

some to reconnect with my

students. Also it was a way to

build new relationships with

students and staff.

people in the world that we live in today that have endured simi-lar, if not worse, and still man-aged to make it. I am a big sup-porter of Life Literacy, because of the people behind the pro-gram. It makes a huge difference when people actually care about what, and the people that they are doing it for, and not to just collect a dollar amount. I would like thank Mr. Curt for caring enough about others to have reached out with this pro-gram.

I am currently a single parent of 3, renting a 3 bedroom home that I will never have the chance

to own. During one of the par-ent meetings, Mr. Curt men-tioned that CASI offered a num-ber of services for all families with different needs, and goals. He pointed me in the direction of the IDA program, and I got in touch with Mrs. Marilyn War-ren. She got me all the infor-mation I needed , and went through the application process with me. through the applica-tion process with me. Now, I am currently finishing up the work-shops that are put in place to help me achieve my long term goal. The workshops gave me a lot of helpful information in becoming a home owner.

My name is Renisha Walker, I was asked if I would mind shar-ing my thoughts about some of the programs that myself or other family members have been involved in. The first program that my family participated in was Life Literacy. This program encouraged my daughter to strive to be the best at everything that she puts her mind to doing, and that no matter your race, or family background that everyone deals with some type of peer pressure, but it is according to how you handle your opposi-tions, and that even with all odds against you that there are

Vision of Success

Community Action of Southern Indiana (CASI) is recognized as a model

agency in the state of Indiana. CASI serves thousands of customers each year

throughout Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Southern Indiana. CASI

headquarters is located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. There are CASI sub-

locations in various parts of Southern Indiana. Some of the services provided

by CASI are Head Start, Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), Weatheriza-

tion, Energy Assistance, Life Literacy Academy, Minority Health Initiative,

and Self-initiative/ Self-development.

The board and staff are committed and actively involved in the agency’s suc-

cess. They efficiently work together with open communication. The success

of the agency has resulted in a significant rise in voluntary contribution of

time and money from numerous individuals in the community. Community

leaders regularly seek a place on the board.
