Your Answer: Unanswered

Explanation:

Solution (d)

IBMS is being developed to create an inventory of all bridges in the country and rate their structural

condition so that timely repair and rehabilitation work can be carried out based on the criticality of the

structure.

IBMS is the largest platform in the world owned by a single owner, with database that could exceed

1,50,000 bridge structures. So far 1,15,000 bridges have been inventorized, of which 85,000 are culverts

and the rest are bridges. During inventory creation each bridge is assigned a unique identification

number or National Identity Number based on the state, RTO zone and whether it is situated on an

National Highway, State Highway or is a district road. Then the precise location of the bridge in terms of

latitude-longitude is collected through GPS and based on this, the bridge is assigned a Bridge Location

Number. Thereafter, engineering characteristics like the design, materials, type of bridge, its age,

loading, traffic lane, length, width of carriage way etc are collected and are used to assign a Bridge

Classification Number to the structure. These are then used to do a structural rating of the structure on a

scale of 0 to 9, and each bridge is assigned a Structural Rating Number. The rating is done for each

component of the structure like integral and non integral deck, superstructure, substructure, bank and

channel, structural evaluation, deck geometry, vertical clearance, waterway efficiency etc. In addition to

the structural rating, the bridges are also being assigned Socio-Economic Bridge Rating Number which

will decide the importance of the structure in relation to its contribution to daily socio-economic activity of

the area in its vicinity.

The objective of CRR is to ensure the liquidity and solvency of the Banks.

RBI does not pay any interest on the CRR balances

Reduced CRR à More funds with the banks à Banks would have more money to play à This leads to

reduction of interest rates on Loans provided by the Banks

Reduced CRR à More money with the banks à Increase in money supply à More money & less goods à

Rise in inflation …… and vice versa.

Solution (c)

Base rate calculation is based on cost of funds, minimum rate of return, i.e margin or profit, operating

expenses and cost of maintaining cash reserve ratio while the MCLR is based on marginal cost of funds,

tenor premium, operating expenses and cost of maintaining cash reserve ratio. The main factor of

difference is the calculation of marginal cost under MCLR. Marginal cost is charged on the basis of

following factors- interest rate for various types of deposits, borrowings and return on net worth.

Therefore MCLR is largely determined by marginal cost of funds and especially by deposit rates and

repo rates.

The MCLR should be revised monthly.

Banks have the freedom to offer all categories of advances on fixed or floating interest rates. Banks have

to determine their actual lending rates on floating rate advances in all cases by adding the components

of spread to the MCLR. Accordingly, there cannot be lending below the MCLR of a particular maturity, for

all loans linked to that benchmark. Fixed rate loans upto three years are also priced with reference to

MCLR.

Solution (c)

BT is related with bacteria and must be known to you. So you can eliminate statement 1. But still you

have two options left. C has more chances of being correct as you might have read about GM crops

causing loss to biodiversity. So, as you can see, you did not get exact answer, but you came closer. You

now only had two options, and can go on to take a calculated guess.

39. Which of the following is known as Berne and Paris-plus agreement?

a) WIPO

b) TRIPS

c) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG

d) UNFCC

Correct Answer: B

Your Answer: Unanswered

Explanation:

Solution (b)

The TRIPS Agreement says WTO member countries must comply with the substantive obligations of the

main conventions of WIPO — the Paris Convention on industrial property, and the Berne Convention on

copyright (in their most recent versions).

With the exception of the provisions of the Berne Convention on moral rights, all the substantive

provisions of these conventions are incorporated by reference. They therefore become obligations for

WTO member countries under the TRIPS Agreement — they have to apply these main provisions, and

apply them to the individuals and companies of all other WTO members.

The TRIPS Agreement also introduces additional obligations in areas which were not addressed in these

conventions, or were thought not to be sufficiently addressed in them.

The TRIPS Agreement is therefore sometimes described as a “Berne and Paris-plus” Agreement.
