Results Driven: 1. Getting things Done Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions 2. Strengthening Communities Volunteer recruitment and support 3. Member Development C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Partnered with 23 local governments and non- profits in Bay Area Implemented or accelerated over 75 emission reducing projects Members have supported programs that are reducing 35 mil lbs of GHG emissions annually Our communities are seeing, on average a 77% improvement in emission reduction projects outcomes Recruited a total of 4,565 volunteers for 28,419 hours served Success in member development: 76% of Members who completed the program have found employment in sustainability or are starting graduate programs C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Stipend Heath Benefits Food Stamps Education Award Forbearance Child Care C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Members receive $14,000 per service year Approximately $1300 per month before taxes Amount you will get per pay check is dependent on the amount you claimed on your W-4 More you claim, more you get back now But, higher amount taken out per pay check results in less likelihood that you may have to pay an amount on annual taxes (will come into play with paying taxes spring 2014) Paychecks start Friday Sept. 28, last one will be on Aug. 15, 2013 C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Coverage through Aetna 20/80 split you cover 20% of medical services $100 deductable at first use We will reimburse this cost If possible let us know 2 weeks prior to first appointment to allow us time to get you check Coverage starts by end of September C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING AmeriCorps Members are eligible for food stamps Federal requirement that stipend is not taken into account with social services Total amount of food stamps dependent on assets you have Car not included in assets Must show bank statement The larger you can show your monthly costs the more they will be likely to disregard assets If living at home have family member put together a letter regarding the amount you pay in rent Bring utility bills C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Eligible for award at completion of 1700 hours Service year ends Aug. 15, Education Award: $5,500 What can it be used for? C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Minimum regulation to hit 1700 hours by Aug. 15 th, 2012 Expected to work 40 hours a week Can work more to build up time Time- Off 40 hours built in for personal time off 13 observed holidays during service year Sites Are required to offer you these days off, but if you want to follow another schedule, you are able to All time off should be approved by Site Supervisor if more than two days off in a row, also approved by Regional Supervisor C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Training Service o Orientation and Monthly Trainings o Check-ins at Site o Off-Site Trainings o Site Visits with RS o All Activities that relate to your project o Preparation for events/service o Service Days with CCBA All hours should be kept to the 20/80 ratio, where no more than 20% of total hours are used in training C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Make up hours are best used if still working on your main CCBA projects Training Make-Up Service Make-Up Attend an off-Site Training Event Approved Reading for Content or Goal Development Help CCBA put together Monthly Training Activities Working extra on your project Volunteering with a local project related to CCBA Goals Assist CCBA Members with their projects (with approval of Site Supervisor) C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Record of time is kept through TRAX system Expected that hours are recorded on a weekly basis In the chance that a member becomes delinquent with logging their time, their stipend can be suspended Approved by Site Supervisors on Monthly Basis Members must log out for 30 min each day Regional Supervisors will keep Members up to date on where they should be C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Members can not work on specific activities even if they may seem to be related to your main project Activism, Policy, and Campaigning Fundraising Excess Administrative Tasks Tasks of full time employee on Site C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Awarded Activities include tasks/projects towards our performance measures: Emission Reduction Volunteer Recruitment and Support Professional Development of Members All other activities are unallowable, and therefore prohibited All projects/tasks should have a Scope of Service All projects/tasks should have a clear link to either emission reductions or volunteer support Can not log hours for prohibited activities If you feel you are doing something un- awarded, please talk to your RS immediately C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Cans Can Nots Engage in activism after hours (not in uniform) Wear your Uniform daily while on site Maintain a positive work environment State AmeriCorps was created with bi-partisan support Work on your approved project and tasks Engage in activism while logging hours Use drugs or alcohol while in uniform Fraternize with CCBA Staff Make political partisan statements Work on Fundraising campaigns Displace a paid worker C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Typically discipline both on and off site will occur through CCBA Disciplinary action can take place For Cause Situation where action is so severe termination can occur immediately (ie-selling drugs on hours, not notifying CCBA of a felony, using hours for political protest) Grievance policy written out in Handbook Verbal Warning Written Warning Further Discipline ( including termination) C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING AmeriCorps Members are NOT eligible for Unemployment Personal Compelling Circumstance Carpooling/Reimbursement Policy C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING 1 hour C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Kristin & Kif C LIMATE C ORPS B AY A REA 2012 T RAINING Split into four groups and take 20 minutes to review Policies and Member Handbook Jeopardy Rules: You will switch players for each question the Member up is the only one who can answer the question You can not raise your hand to answer the question until the entire question has been asked (second year members will be responsible for watching for first hand raised) If the first person gets the question wrong, it will automatically go to the second person who raised their hand Some Questions have a bonus attached (for 15 points)- the person who correctly answers the question will be the only person who can answer the bonus. The goal is to find answers that complete a row, column or diagonal. When you find someone who can answer, introduce yourself and ask them to explain their answer and sign the BINGO square.
