The author of the famous “Centuries”. A practicing physician, astronomer and astrologer who lived in the mid 16th century (1503-1566)later turned his hand to prophecy.Wrote short messages from past to future in the form of Quatrains.

NOSTRADAMUS (1503-1566)

• Born Michel de Nostredame on Dec. 14th, 1503 in the South of France.• Home educated.

• Showed great interest in the stars & their patterns.

• Forced to study medicine by father.Sent to The University Of Montpellier.

• Predicted his own death.

GROWING UP/STUDENT YEARS

•Wrote an almanac for 1550.•“Latinized” his name from Nostredame to Nostradamus.•Began to write one or more almanac annually, along with atleast eleven calendars annually.

HIS WORKS

• Started writing a book of one thousand mostly French quatrains, divided into ten “Centuries” which include most of the prophecies that we hear about today.

• The quatrains were published in a book titled “les Propheties”, or in English, The Prophecies.

HIS WORK• After the book was

published, he became known to some people as the “Prophet of Doom”, or an evil man because of some of the things he wrote of the future.

• It is believed that a Queen, one of Nostradamus’s admirers, even asked him to come to Paris to be questioned about prophecies involving royal families, and to draw up horoscopes for her children.

Quatrains are short poems.It did not follow a timeline.Refers to incidents from all of the centuries at the same time. Used words from “Languedoc” or dialect of Southern France & swapped words to make them confusing.

THE THREE ANTICHRISTS

• Nostradamus wrote about three people known as “The Antichrists” .

• These were people who he believed would challenge the “Kingdom of God”.

• The first two have already come and gone, and the third has not yet been discovered.

“From the deepest part of Western Europe A young child will be born to poor people Who will by his speech seduce a great multitude, His reputation will increase in the Kingdom of the East” (Century 3, Quatrain 35)

“Liberty will not be regained, It will be occupied by a black, proud, villainous and unjust man: When the matter of the Pontiff is opened, The republic of Venice will be vexed by Hister.” (Century 5, Quatrain 29)

This is one of the few prophecies in the quatrains where Nostradamus actually got the year dead on!!

“The blood of the just will be demanded of London, Burnt by the fire in the year 66 “(Century 2; Quatrain 51)

FIRE OF LONDON

Here is a quatrain that many followers of Nostradamus perceive as one of his greatest predictions.

“The last son of the man with the Prophet’s name Will bring Diana to her day of rest. At a distance they wander in frenetic grief, Delivering a great people from ruin.”

(Century 2, Quatrain 28)

FATE OF LADY DIANA

“In the year of the new century and nine months,From the sky will come a great King of Terror.Fire approaches the great new city.In the city of York there will be a great collapse,Two twin brothers torn apart by chaos, while the fortress falls the great leader will succumb.Third big war will begin when the big city is burning.”

GLOBAL WARMING

• It is said that Nostradamus predicted possible effects of Global Warming in Quatrain 3, Century 2

• The first half of it is: “Because of the solar heat on the sea

Of Euboea the fishes half cooked.”

•Well, solar heat speaks for itself, and talking about the fish half cooked, that could mean the effects of Global Warming on animals.

•In another quatrain he writes:“So great is the drought, that fish in the sea, river and lake are boiled hectically. Southwest France in distress from fire in the sky.“

•This could obviously mean there is a drought caused by Global Warming.

GLOBAL WARMING

DESTRUCTION• Looking through his quatrains, we

read something about the possible effects of a nuclear bomb

• The Quatrain read: “From Monaco to near Sicily The entire coast will remain

desolated. There will remain no suburb, city or

town Not pillaged and robbed by the

Barbarians.”

CONCLUSION

Was Nostradamus a Fraud or a Prophet?  Accuracy of Quatrains due to facile

interpretations. More than 400 books published after his

death. Can we prevent the dismal fate predicted by

Nostradamus?
