The Kane Chronicles:
The Red Pyramid By Rick Riordan
Since their mother’s death, Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London
and her brother Carter has traveled the world with their father, Dr.
Julius Kane, an intelligent ancient Egyptian historian. One night, Julius
decides to bring Carter and Sadie together for a research experiment at
the British Museum with the intention of bringing his family together.
Instead, the Egyptian god, Set, is unleashed and banishes Julius and forces
Carter and Sadie to flee for their lives.
Carter and Sadie soon realize that the gods of Egypt are waking and Set
has his sights to destroy the Kanes. In order to prevent this from
happening, Carter and Sadie embark on a dangerous journey around the
world that enlightens them to the truths about their family and their
links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the Pharaohs. Are
you willing to go on the journey with Carter and Sadie?

Why were the ancient pyramids built?
Egyptian pyramids were originally built to serve as tombs for kings and queens.
After a ruler died, his or her body was carefully treated and wrapped to
preserve it as a mummy. According to ancient Egyptian belief, the pyramid
where the mummy was placed, provided a place for the king to pass into the
afterlife. In temples nearby, priests performed rituals to nourish the dead
monarch’s spirit, which was believed to stay with the body after death.
