Albert the Bull is located in Audubon. Albert the Bull is a gigantic tribute to the nations beef industry. Albert is a replica of Hereford bull named Albert. Albert the Bull weighs 45 tons mostly because of the concrete.

B IS FOR BLACK ANGEL

The Black Angel is in Council Bluffs. The Black Angel is a monument located at the Ruth Ann Dodge Memorial. This Angel marks the grave of Ruth Ann Dodge . Ruth died September 1916 at her house in New York but buried in Council Bluffs. Soon after she got buried her daughters Anne and Eleanor asked a French sculptor to sculpt the black angel.

C IS FOR CAPITAL BUILDINGThe Capital building is located in Des Moines. This building is one of the most finest example of 19th century architecture. The dome is constructed of steel and brick and is externally gilded with 23 karat gold leaf,

D is for Dust Bowl

In 1936 there was a Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl seemed like one big blizzard. It made snow drifts up to 10 to 15 feet high, clogged roads and train tracks. Trains couldn’t blast through the drifts so it made it harder to get coal from one place to another. So families could only stay warm in certain rooms during the winter.

E is for The Effigy Mounds are located in McGregor. The Effigy Mounds are shaped like birds, buffalo, bears and snakes. The Effigy Mounds are made out of dirt also they are made out of dead indians.

G is for Grenville M DodgeGrenville was born in Danvers, Massachusetts on April 12, 1831 and died in 1916 in Council Bluffs. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Council Bluffs. He started working as a civil engineer. Then he got hired by the Illinois Central Railroad. He got hired again working for the Missouri and Mississippi railroad. And then he finally came to Council Bluffs.

H is for Herbert HooverHerbert Hoover was born on August 10 , 1874 in West Branch ,Iowa. And he died on June 24,1908. Herbert Hoovers wife was Lou Henry Hoover. He woorked for an engineer and he gratuated from Stanford University. He had two kids both boys. His moms name is Hulda Randall Hoover and his dads name is Jesse Hoover.

I is for Iowa State Fair

The Iowa State Fair is located in Des Moines. The fair grounds have a butter cow, talent shows , grandstand , rides and a lot more attractions. The administration is adults 12 and over are 7 dollars, children (ages 6-11) 3 dollars and children under the age of 3 are free everyday the fair is being held.

J IS FOR JONNY CARSON Jonny Carson was a famous comedian. Jonny Carson was born on October 23,1925 in corning, Iowa. He died on January 23,2005 in Los Angeles, California. He won a Peabody award in 1986 and he also won the Funniest Male Performer and the

K is for Ku Klux KlanThe Ku Klux Klan started their journey in Florida and ended it in Iowa. The first Ku Klux Klan started in 1865-1916 and the second Ku Klux Klan group started 1915-1944. And then the 3rd group stated 1944 and ended 1946. In the 1st group there were 550,000 members. In the 2nd group there was between 3 and 6 million members.

L is for Loess Hills

The Loess Hills are located in Western Iowa. The ice-age, wind, and water created the Loess Hills.

M is for Mormon trail The Mormon trail has 4 locations they are Iowa , Utah , Nebraska and Wyoming. The Mormon trail was established on November 10,1978. Another name for the Mormon trail is the Mormon Pioneer Trail. Roughly 70,000 mormon’s traveled along the trail from 1846 to 1869 because they had to escape religious persicution.

N IS FOR NEZ PERCE

The Nez Perce is a tribe a tribe of indians that lived on the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. The Nez Perce tribe was around when Louis and Clark were around. The tribes area covered parts of Washington , Oregon , Montana and Idaho sorounding the snakes , salmon and clear water rivers.

O IS FOR OKOBOJIOkoboji is a town in Iowa. Okoboji has a huge lake. Most families go their for vacation because of all of the attractions and sights to see. Here are some of the most famous attractions Arts and culture, golfing shopping and much more.

P IS FOR PRAIRIE FIRE The Prairie fire was in Fort Dodge . The Prairie fire started on November 2,1860. There were five people burned to death. One of the five people burned to death is Daniel Swearington. He was a farmer from Tuscawara county in Ohio to Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Q IS FOR QUAKER OATSThe Quaker Oats company is located in Cedar rapids. John and Robert Stuart (father and son) and George Douglas (Johns cousin started the company. They started the company in 1873. Before all of the boys came here they lived in Canada but they thought oats would grow better in Iowa so they moved.

R IS FOR RAGBRAI Ragbrai is a bicycle ride that crosses through Iowa. Ragbrai starts in Davenport and ends in Glenwood. You have to ride your bike 454 miles and climb 21,406 feet. Ragbrai stands for Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa.

S IS FOR SOD HOUSES

Sod Houses are made out of mud, dirt, grass, timber and a grasshopper plow so you can plow up the land before you start building your house. Sod Houses are usually located in Northwest Iowa.

T IS FOR TERRACE HILLBenjamin Franklin Allen Iowa’s first millionaire built Terrace Hill as a family home. Right now the government and his family is living in the huge mansion. This house is located in Des Moines and it was built in1866. This home is on a hill overlooking downtown Des Moines.

U IS FOR UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

The Underground railroad was a system that got slaves from the Southern states to the Northern states or Canada. They wanted to get the slaves overnight so the slave owners couldn’t see them escape. Usually the slaves had code songs and when they would sing those songs that meant that they would escape that night.

V IS FOR VILLISCA AXE MURDERThe Villisca Axe Murder happened on June 9,1912.Six kids and 2 adults were murdered. The people were 2 adults mom and dad their four kids and 2 friends that stayed the night. The two friends that stayed the night were Lena 10 and Ira May 8 Stillinger. The other kids were Katherine 9 , Boyd 7,and Paul 12 Moore

W IS FOR WILD ROSE

The Legislature designated the Wild Rose as the Official state flower in 1897. Wild Roses bloom from June trough late summer throughout Iowa The rose has been around for 35 million years and grows naturally throughout North America.

Xenia, Iowa is located in Hardin County. It is located at 42.3111 latitude and -93.08056 longitude. It is 123 miles from Underwood.

Y IS FOR YELLOW RIVER STATE FOREST

Yellow State Forest is located in Harpers Ferry, Iowa (northeast Iowa). It is home of many species of wildlife that lives in various habitats. The Red-shouldered hawk a threatened and an endangered bird can be seen at the Yellow River State Forest.

Z IS FOR ZEARING

Zearing is located almost in the center of Iowa. Zearing was formed out of the Lincoln township. Zearing was founded on October 17, 1881 Zearing was named after William Mitchell Zearing it was named after him because he donated a bell to the first church in the community.
