Erosion and Deposition

The removal and transport of material by wind, water, or ice.Erosion can happen in areas where rainfall happens frequelenty and flows downhill or into areas where rainfall is trapped.

Erosion

In meandering streams, erosion and streams occur at the blanks. Point bars from where slow moving water deposits fine material. Cut banks occur where fast moving water erodes away bank material.

Meanders

Wind erosion is a major problem on about 75 million acres of land in the United States. About 5 million acres are moderately to severely damaged each year. Wind erosion physically removes from the field the most fertile portion of the soil. Some soil from damaged land enters suspension and becomes part of the atmospheric dust load. Dust obscures visibility and pollutes the air and water, causes automobile accidents, fouls machinery, and imperils animal and human health

Wind erosion

Shoreline is where land and a body of water meet. Waves can be powerful agents of erosion and deposition. A beach is any area of the shoreline made up material deposited by waves.Long shore current is a movement of water near and parallel to the shoreline.

Shoreline Erosion and Deposition

Saltation is the movement of sand-sized particles by a skipping and bouncing action in the direction of the wind blowing.

Deflation is the opposite of saltation.The grinding and wearing down of rock surfaces is called abrasion.Mounds of wind-deposited sand are called dunes.Thick deposit of windblown, fine grained sediment is loess.
