THEWATER CYCLE
Welcome to the Water Cycle!
We all know that precipitation comes from clouds and goes into our Earth, but have you ever wondered how clouds were formed? In this section, you will get to learn each part
of the water cycle and how it works!
Good Luck!
•5 total sections•3 question quiz after each section•Each question is multiple choice•Correct answers will move onto the next question•Incorrect answers will have to go back and redo the question•Good Luck

You chose Precipitation!
In this section, you will learn about how precipitation impacts our environments!
Good Luck!
Precipitation
Precipitation happens when so much water has condensed that the air is unable to hold any more. The clouds will begin to get heavy, and water will come to Earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet, or snow.
Directions: Click on the form of precipitation to learn more about it. Click the quiz button when you’re ready
to be quizzed over precipitation.
QuizRain Snow
SleetHail
RainRain can be found in any temperature as
long as it is 32°F or higher. Rain can come during any season around the year. Next time it rains, look at the
temperature and see how warm it is!
Hail
Hail can come during any season. You will mainly see hail when there is a large thunderstorm coming/going
through an area. Next time your area gets impacted with a big storm, look
to see if it hails!
SleetSleet will come when it is between 32°F
and 50°F. Sleet is snow that is melting as it falls to the Earth. Next time you see sleet, compare the temperature.
Yesterday’s vs. Today’s and Tomorrow’s.
SnowSnow is found when the temperature
is 32°F or lower. It is mainly found during the winter months of the
year.

You chose Evaporation!
In this section, you will learn about how precipitation impacts our environments!
Good Luck!
Evaporation
Evaporation occurs when the water in rivers, lakes, or oceans is heated by the sun, which turns into a vapor or a steam.
The vapor is a gas that is in the air.
Directions: Click on the form of evaporation to learn more about it. Click the quiz button when you’re ready to be quizzed over evaporation.
Quiz
Plants
To help evaporation, plants transpire. Transpiration is when plants loose water
out of their leaves which helps evaporation get the water back into the
air.
Next time you go outside in the early morning, look at the dew on the leaves!
PeopleTo help evaporation, people perspire (sweat). Perspiration is when humans loose water out of their bodies which
helps evaporation get water back into the air.
Next time you go outsideon a hot summer day, when
you sweat think abouthow your body is perspiring!

You chose Condensation!
In this section, you will learn about how condensation and how it has an impact our
environment!
Good Luck!
Condensation
Condensation is when water in the air gets cold and changes back into a liquid,
forming a cloud.
Directions: Click on the condensation type to learn more about it. Click the quiz button when you’re ready
to be quizzed over condensation.
Quiz
DrinksWhen you have a cold drink on a hot day,
water will form on the outside of the glass/bottle. That water came from the air! The air’s water vapor turned into a liquid when it touched the glass/bottle.
Windows
When your house or car is air conditioned on a hot day, water will form on the outside of the window. This water comes from the air! The air’s water vapor turned back into a liquid when it touched the window.

You chose Collection!
In this section, you will learn about collection and how it has an impact our
environment!
Good Luck!
Collection
When water falls back to the Earth into the oceans, lakes, or rivers, it’s called
collection. When it falls to land, it will soak into the Earth or become ground water for plants and animals to drink.
Directions: Click on the collection type to learn more about it. Click the
quiz button when you’re ready to be quizzed over collection.
Quiz
Collection and PlantsWhen water collects in lakes, rivers, or
oceans, or gets soaked up by the land, it will help the plants near it get the proper amounts of water
and nutrients that the plants need.
Collection and Animals
When water is collected in lakes, streams, rivers, or oceans, the
animals around it will come to the area in order to get their bodies
rehydrated.

In this section, you will learn about the order of the steps of the water cycle and
their impact on our environment!

Steps of the Water Cycle
The water cycle is how the Earth’s water goes from clouds to rain to rivers, back to
clouds, and over again.
Directions: 1st click on the video to learn about the water cycle itself,
afterwards click on each step of the water cycle to learn more about it. Click the quiz button

CondensationWhen water goes from a vapor state as a cloud to a water state as precipitation, it’s
called condensation. This occurs when the temperature in the air starts to cool down. When the cloud gets heavy, it will begin to “leak” to Earth in the form of precipitation.
Precipitation
When water falls to Earth, it is called precipitation. Precipitation comes in
4 different forms. Snow, rain, sleet, and hail. This occurs when a cloud
becomes so full that it has to “leak” to have more room.
CollectionAfter water reaches Earth in a form of precipitation, it will either gather in an
ocean, river, lake, or stream, or it will soak into the land. This is called collection. Collection occurs the moment the water touches the Earth. The water is used for
animals, plants, and humans.
Evaporation
When water turns into vapor as it goes from lake, river, or ocean to a cloud, it’s called evaporation. Evaporation happens when the water is heated by the sun and turns into a vapor in the
air.
