In 1775 the goal for education was to teach children subjects to secure, develop and live in the new frontier.

In the 1800’s, they wanted public schools because most families could not afford private schools.

You would get a number of lashes for the bad things you did at school

Roberts v. city of Boston declared that schools would be separate (racially) but supposedly equal

In 1825, the first All Girls High School opened

In1817, the first School of Law opened In 1840, Carter established the first

teaching school for teachers The public kept the schools running. The

farmers had helped by supplying wood for the new school and also by supplying fuel for the new schools as well.

The schools in the 1800’s attempted to find students from a broad range of ages and a lot of skill levels
