BWPS Weekly Newsletter Canteen We have had a small number of issues as we move children to become more independent canteen users. As there is no internal phone system the canteen can only be accessed on 0421791412 during school hours. Please do not ring the Office as we can not switch you through. We are encouraging the children to put their recess and/or lunch orders in the baskets first thing in the morning, to avoid lining up at the canteen. If by chance children forget to put their order in they will still get something to eat. There are always ‘back up’ sandwiches and water bottles both in the staffroom and in the canteen for such instances. If you do ring the canteen to check on your child’s order, please advise Ms Marea that your child already has an order. There have been a number of double ups with phone orders and lunch orders for the same child and we wish to minimise the wastage. I am sure that things will become smoother as we all adjust to new processes. Enrolment We are now accepting enrolments for 2021, particularly Kindergarten, as we hope to start up Ready, Set, Go next term, depending on DoE directives. Enrolments may now be done online. Please access via the following link: https://education.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/main-education/public-schools/going-to-a-public -school/media/documents/enrol-k12.pdf As you are probably aware due to the new Enrolment Policy, our school has an enrolment cap which means it can not enrol out of area enrolments unless the Intake Enrolment Panel deems that applications are eligible under a set criterion. To be eligible for non-local placement one or more of the following criteria must be addressed: Medical reasons, disability, siblings and/or compassionate reasons. A specific form detailing these requirements is available from the front office. Some Great News From the P&C Executive Thank you everyone who sent through their feedback to the P&C president, Lina Yassine. The decision was to support the water refill station and we will now move forward with this project. This will mean that the children will be able to fill their water bottles with chilled, filtered water which will be particularly nice in warmer weather. Term 2 Week 7

Canteen

We have had a small number of issues as we move children to become more independent canteen users.

Feedback on OC Testing- Mr Brannigan

As advised previously, the OC Test for Year 4 students seeking a place in an OC class in 2021 was postponed due to COVID19.

Please see the revised information attached. Keep in mind that the testing procedure is very difficult and would only be aimed at students achieving above Stage outcomes in English and Numeracy. If students are successful in gaining a place in an OC class for 2021, this would mean changing schools for Years 5 and 6. Applications must be made by parents/caregivers online.

Further information can be found here : https://schoolsequella.det.nsw.edu.au/file/a5190613-c171-4597-8fa3-6467227af757/1/Fact%20sheet%20for%20parents.pdf

Please note there will not be appeals due to the tight time frame.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the children who received the Jason Clare certificates for being elected as SRC members and School Captains. Unfortunately, there were some typos on some certificates and we have requested they be redone.

Changes to PracticesAs we have had such a disruptive start to the year the staff have readjusted some of our practices and processes to ensure kids aren't disadvantaged.● Class 'assemblies' will be in week four and week eight of each term and held in their

normal classrooms. Certificates, growth mindset badges and awards ie bronze, silver and gold will be given out during these sessions.

● Children are encouraged to work towards completing gold level over the course of this year and will be rewarded at the end of the year. There will not be platinum level this year due to the time spent on remote learning.

● The 3-6 Athletics Carnival is booked at The Crest for Tuesday, 18th August and we hope we will be able to go ahead. We will try to have the Cross Country carnival in term three, in a modified form.

● At the moment we are waiting on a DoE directive about carnivals before we can do any further planning.

● School Photos which were postponed in term one, have been rebooked for Wednesday, 28th October.

Further information about excursions etc will be forthcoming as restrictions are eased.

Digi-Tech - Mr McKendrickThis term students in stage 2 and 3 will be working with Mr McKendrick and their classroom teacher to bring a famous story to life with Ozobots. Last week our students were introduced to the screenless programming tool, that senses colours and lines to perform certain actions that the user programs. Students took part in challenges that had them programming with the tool and communicating with their groups to solve problems. This team teaching approach will build upon your child’s understanding in technology as well as our classroom teachers who continue to be lifelong learners.
