Pity it was so cloudy! HEDGEHOG RIGHTS OF WAY The number of hedgehogs in Britain has dropped drastically. Their habitat is being taken up by housing developments (like Bolnore) and they can’t roam freely to find food anymore. If you do one thing this weekend, let it be cutting a hedgehog shaped hole in the fence so they can get through. Thanks from the hedgehogs! Miss Baldwin, our SMSCD co- ordinator took an assembly to show the children just how much of their learning is linked with spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Certificates were given to children who had demonstrated an appreciation of these key areas of learning. Can you name two things we do for each area? ROBOT WORKSHOP On Wednesday, children in Year 3 and 4 were visited by a group called Robogals from the University of Sussex. They aim to encourage girls to become interested in the field of Technology and Science. Robogals brought a selection of Lego robots for the children to use. In the first activity the children had to direct the robots around a series of obstacles in order to collect the treasure. The second activity required the children to programme the robots to follow the tape they had laid out on the floor. The robots used light and sound sensors to prevent them from hitting objects. The children used their knowledge of direction, angles and position to help them move the robots effectively. Year 6 had an amazing trip away to Hindleap Warren. Activities included: archery, problem solving, camp fire, Forest Adventures (mud!), rock climbing, swimming, bed making, taking on the Tunnels, marshmallows with hot chocolate, trying the ‘Leap of Faith’, rock climbing and of course, eating. Thank you to the fabulous instructors at Hindleap Warren and to the most important person of all, Johnny the Chef! Thank to Miss Waters, Mr Sears and the TA team for making it all happen. Everyone came back very tired and just a bit muddy. GRUFFALO DRAMATICS Barrie’s Year 3 and 4 Drama group entertained the Reception Classes with their performance of ‘The Gruffalo’. Such was the enjoyment by Reception that the play was repeated and the stage was flooded with owls, foxes and snakes and a few extra mice and Gruffalos. Well done to the Players and thank you to Barrie! KS1 celebrated the end of their very successful gardening topic today. Everyone came in dressed for the garden. What can you spot? The children talked about who they had come as, imagined their own garden and designed seed packets.

ECLIPSED! Did you know that the next partial eclipse in Britain is not until 12 August 2026 and the next total eclipse in will be in September

2090?

This week we have been getting excited about the eclipse!

We have watched videos of the solar eclipse from around the world, modelled how the eclipse happens by using footballs, tennis balls, inflatables and

balloons and explained the science behind it. Milo, in Year 1, was even heard explaining it to the adults at the disco!
