Butterfly massage uses gentle touch to develop contact and a relationship with the child. Baby learns to understand its parents and parents get closer to their baby. PREPARATION Find a relaxing place where you can comfortably sit or stand. The temperature should be at least 25 degrees Celsius. In the summer, you can also perform the massage outdoors underneath a tree. Spend some time with your baby. Babies love rituals. A daily massage is a beautiful experience for your child. Your baby should not be hungry or tired. You can massage your baby straight after feeding. Treat your baby with respect. If your baby suddenly starts crying, there is an issue which is most likely not your fault. Your baby may be cold or tired. FACE Some children enjoy a gentle facial massage. The best way to do this is to gently place your hands around the face with your thumbs on the baby’s chin and the other finger tips on the forehead. Start stroking in circular movements across the cheeks and temples using your fingertips. Leave the thumbs resting on the chin. Finally, massage the chin with the thumbs from the centre to the outside. UPPER BODY Onto the upper body. Start by alternatingly stroking across the body, from one shoulder to the opposite hip. After several repetitions, place the palms of your hands onto then centre of the sternum and gently stroke to the outsides. Start a little deeper in the centre with each repetition. ARMS Hold the child at the wrists and lightly pull it to one side. Circulate the shoulder blade at shoulder height. Continue by holding one arm with both hands and slide down with alternating movements (gentle strokes). Starting at the arm pit, stroke all the way down to the wrist, alternating between both arms several times. BabyPure. HANDSHold your baby’s lower arm with one hand, take each hand alternatingly and gently circulate the wrist in all directions. Follow this by massaging the palms of the hands by making circular motions with your thumb (colon) and stroke each finger individually.

LEGSReach around one thigh with your hands and alternatingly slide each hand down the leg. Repeat this motion several times, then change to the other leg.

FEETIt is important to take your time. Give the sole of the foot a good massage with your thumb (reflexology zones for digestion), stroke and make circu-lar, clockwise motions. Do not forget the toes and ankles. Close the foot massage by taking each one of your baby’s toes between your thumb and index finger and gently pulling it. Change to the other foot and repeat all of the above steps.

BACKTurn your baby on its stomach. Draw small circles on the baby’s back with the tips of your fingers. Then use long strokes to massage from your baby’s shoulders to its toes. Always use both hands together and work from top to bottom. Never massage directly on the spine! to the outside Use your thumbs and fingers to perform circular movements Stroke transversely with both hands in the opposite direction,

from top to bottom. Once more stroke the back with both hands at the same time,

down to the feet.
