First there is a quote:“It has said that something as small as the flutter

of a butterfly wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world”

This gives the impression that something major, life changing is about to happen. This might be

a metaphor for what is about to happen.

Page 3: Butterfly effect analysis

Ominous music creates a scary mood. Lots of violins and drums add suspense as the man is running. The music creates tension for the audience.

Page 4: Butterfly effect analysis

The man running suggests that he is scared, frightened and in danger. Something or someone is chasing him. The voices in the background are multiply suggesting that it’s a group of people chasing him. Making him appear vulnerable, and audience immediately are on his side and have sympathy for him.

Page 5: Butterfly effect analysis

The gown he is wearing is white and looks like a hospital gown – suggesting he has been hospitalized or has been ill in some way. Audience might assume that he is escaping from a hospital.

Page 6: Butterfly effect analysis

The man is writing a letter to someone explaining how he wants to save someone. We therefore get the impression that he is a hero or the “good guy”. There is a close up on the words “Save her” which suggests that this girl is an integral part to the story.

The lighting is dark with washes of blue which gives off an ominous mood and creates tension.

The butterfly flickering and fluttering into the shape of a brain suggests that the story has something to do with brains. This could therefore be what the man was hospitalized for.

Page 8: Butterfly effect analysis

There is then a shot of a suburban area, with a boy riding a bike down a hill. This suggests that this is the mans childhood and the “life changing” has not happened yet.
