I n 1999, Jennifer Appel, co-founderof the legendary Magnolia Bakery
in Greenwich Village, opened her own bake shop on Second Avenue near 52nd Street. Her recreations ofthe mouthwatering desserts we loved when we were growing up made theButtercup Bake ShopTM an immediatehit with the people who live and work in midtown Manhattan. ❖
Now, Jennifer has also created an opportunity for qualified individuals to own and operate their own Buttercup Bake Shop. This comprehensive franchise program provides the systems, training and on-going support toenable them to join her in bringingthese quality baked goods to those who crave old-fashioned desserts.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
“Once customers get a look at the
homey desserts at the BUTTERCUP
BAKE SHOP, they start putting in their
own requests. So owner Jennifer
Appel is considering all suggestions,
buoyed by the warm welcome her
sunny bakery has received.”
THE NEW YORK TIMES
“Jennifer Appel, a former co-owner of
Magnolia Bakery in Greenwich Village,
has taken her state fair style uptown to
the BUTTERCUP BAKE SHOP. There’s still
a retro feel, and there are several tables
and a counter if you want to dawdle over
a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.”
GOTHAM MAGAZINE
“Bad week at the office? Miss your
mom? Keep your chin up and pop over
to Midtown’s BUTTERCUP BAKE SHOP
for the indulgent, pick-me-up red velvet
cake. And the next time the boss man
cracks the whip, take a deep breath and
repeat the mantra that hangs in
Buttercup’s window: ‘Life is uncertain
—eat dessert first.’”
TIME OUT MAGAZINE
“Hey, midtowners: Instead of heading to
the nearest Second Avenue bar after work,
why not try a calorie infusion of a differ-
ent kind? The BUTTERCUPBAKE SHOP has
opened right in the neighborhood. After a
day spent staring at a blue screen, what
could be more therapeutic than eating a
pink-frosted cupcake while surrounded
by butter-yellow walls?”
NEWYORK.CITYSEARCH.COM“From the second you enter the close-
quartered shop, you’re enveloped in a
relentless, sensual maelstrom of heaven-
ly scents, ooey-gooey icing and eye-pop-
ping frosting swirls. However, all the
goods are ensconced safely in cases—
and it’s still bad form to press your nose
up against the glass.”
NEW YORK POST
“In this food-obsessed city, there’s one
confection that’s fast becoming the
dessert of choice: the all-American cup-
cake. BUTTERCUPBAKE SHOP’Sofferings
include a whopping 10—count ‘em—
varieties. In hard times, people turn to
comfort foods, and what could be more
comforting than a fresh, frosted cup-
cake?”
NEW YORK MAGAZINE“Jennifer Appel opened this brightly-litTurtle Bay café and bakeshop just overa year ago. Locals are thanking her forfilling the area’s baker void with retro-Americana desserts. The moist lemoncake with lemon frosting was so denseand buttery that I had to pause betweenmouthfuls to catch my breath.”

Everyone loves food that reminds them of a less complicated time in their lives —especially
when it’s lovingly prepared with rich ingredients. That’s one reason Buttercup Bake ShopTM
seems to have such special appeal. ❖ Our first Buttercup Bake Shop was warmly welcomed in
midtown New York City, where people are seeking creature comforts to counteract their hectic
lives. What’s most rewarding is the happy faces of the customers enjoying some muffins and cof-
fee right there in the shop, picking up a pie to take home, or ordering a cake for an office cele-
bration. ❖ We’re actively looking for ambitious, dedicated individuals who have the resources,
commitment and vision to carry on the tradition of the Buttercup Bake Shop. As a franchisee,
you will have the benefit of the tools, guidance and training designed to help you reach the full
potential that our concept offers. And, as you build your business, we will be there to help you
keep it fresh, innovative and ever-improving for years to come. ❖ If you would like to learn
more about our franchise opportunity, please give us a call today. Thank you for your interest!
