THE POSITION
This is a single incumbent position responsible for the administration of all County safety programs; reports to the Director, General Services or to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer overseeing Risk Management.
The Safety Officer position requires the ability to independently research, collect and analyze data, problem-solve and develop recommendations, prepare reports, and present information to a variety of audiences. Assignments are typically received in broad, outline form, and incumbents are expected to act independently in developing applicable resources and information. Projects may include statistical analysis, operations support, policy and procedures development and implementation, or other areas specific to the department or office.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The position of Safety Officer requires a self-starter comfortable with the autonomy necessary to thrive in a fast paced environment. Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, are necessary when working with people at all levels of the organization. The ability to gain and retain the trust of others is important in developing a county-wide team of associates focused on safety in all departments. The Safety Officer works closely with Risk Management, Facilities Project Managers and management to develop and implement long range projects aimed at improving safety and security throughout the County offices.
The ideal candidate will be dynamic, versatile, and adaptable with superior interpersonal communication skills. This person will be a confident leader and have the ability to comfortably interact with staff at all levels of the organization, both inside and outside of the department. This person will demonstrate their ability to maintain appropriate levels of initiative and energy while consist-ently exercising good judgment. The candidate must also possess the ability and willingness to present his/her ideas and opinions clearly and effectively in all situations.
Education & Experience
A Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in occupational health, safety, industrial engineering, or a related field.
Three years experience in public or industrial safety programs is required.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for the position is $67,204 - $90,064 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
Cell Phone Allowance $70/month
Boot Allowance $240/year
Retirement Plan 2% @ 55 for classic PERS members; 2% @ 62 for new PERS members.
Vacation and Other Leave Vacation is based on years of service beginning at 15 days per year. 11 paid holidays per year. 12 days of sick leave per year. 7 days of administrative leave per year.
Health, Dental and Vision Insurance These are provided to the employee and dependents with costs being shared by the County and employee.
Deferred Compensation The County provides two voluntary 457 programs in which each employee may elect to enroll.
Life Insurance The County covers $25,000 in life insurance with additional coverage available for purchase by the employee at minimal cost.
