ALL CONCRETE EXPOSED TO WEATHER SHALL HAVE A LIGHT BROOM FINISH.
XYPEX OR BARRIER 1 ADMIXTURE OR EQUAL MUST BE MIXED WITH CONCRETEACCORDING TO MFG. SPECS. IN ORDER TO WATERPROOF CONCRETE.
REINFORCING STEEL : ASTM A615 OR A616, GRADE 60 (EPOXY COATED). MINIMUM LAPLENGTH - 48 DIAMETERS.
CONTRACTOR MUST COORDINATE ALL MATERIAL TESTING WITH THELEN ASSOCIATES.
MATERIAL TESTING WILL BE PAID FOR BY MIAMI UNIVERSITY.
MECHANICAL
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT EXISTING STRUCTURES AND MECHANICALUTILITIES DURING CONSTRUCTION. THIS INCLUDES PIPE, INSULATION AND PIPESUPPORTS.
2. THE TUNNELS HOUSE PIPES THAT RUN THE LENGTH OF THE TUNNELS AND ARESUPPORTED ON STEEL STRUCTURES BOLTED TO THE CONCRETE SIDE WALLSOF THE TUNNELS. THESE PIPE SYSTEMS INCLUDE STEAM, CONDENSATE ANDCHILLED WATER SUPPLY/RETURN.
3. PIPE: THE PRIMARY PIPING SYSTEMS IN THE TUNNELS ARE THERMAL SYSTEMSTHAT EXPAND AND CONTRACT FROM THEIR INSTALLED POSITIONS, CAUSINGSIGNIFICANT FORCES AND MOMENTS WITHIN THE SYSTEM. THE STEAM ANDCONDENSATE PIPING ARE INSTALLED WITH ANCHORS, GUIDES AND ROLLERSTO DIRECT EXPANSION INTO EXPANSION JOINTS. THE CHILLED WATER SUPPLYAND RETURN PIPES ARE INSTALLED WITH ANCHORS AND ROLLERS TO PERMITGROWTH. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT RELEASE ANY ANCHORS ORSUPPORTS ON THERMAL LINES WITHOUT PREVIOUSLY OBTAINING PERMISSIONFROM THE OWNER, AND ENSURING THE SYSTEM IS OFF AND AT AMBIENTTEMPERATURE
4. INSULATION: SOME OF THE PIPE INSULATION IN THE TUNNEL AREA CONTAINSASBESTOS. THE CONTRACTOR IS CAUTIONED NOT TO PERFORM ANYACTIVITIES THAT WILL PUNCTURE THE INSULATION JACKET OR DISTURB THEINSTALLATION. IF INSULATION IS DISTURBED, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFYTHE OWNER AND OBTAIN FROM THE OWNER DIRECTION REGARDINGABATEMENT, IF REQUIRED, PRIOR TO PROCEEDING. TYPICAL INSULATIONMATERIALS ARE AS FOLLOWS:a. STEAM PIPE HAS ASBESTOS INSULATION. TYPICALLY THIS IS COVERED WITH
2” THICK FIBERGLASS INSULATION AND ALL SERVICE JACKET, WITH LABELSSTATING, “INSULATION UNDER FIBERGLASS CONTAINS ASBESTOS'.
b. CONDENSATE PIPE TYPICALLY HAS ASBESTOS INSULATIONc. CHILLED WATER SUPPLY/RETURN HAS BLACK CELLULAR FOAM INSULATION.
GENERAL
DIMENSIONS SHOWN ARE FROM EXISTING PLAN AND SURVEY INFORMATION. ACTUALDIMENSIONS MAY VARY FROM THE PLANS. IT IS THE INTENT OF THESE PLANS THAT THEPROPOSED REPLACEMENT MATCH EXISTING CONDITIONS. DELIVERIESALL DELIVERIES OF MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY THECONTRACTOR AT THE JOB SITE. MIAMI UNIVERSITY PERSONNEL WILL NOTRECEIVE ANY SUCH ITEMS.

REPAIRS OF DAMAGED FACILITIESDAMAGE TO UTILITIES OR OTHER FACILITIES ON UNIVERSITY PROPERTY,RESULTING FROM HAULING, EXCAVATION, STORAGE OF MATERIALS, OR OTHERACTIVITIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE WORK, SHALL BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED,AT NO EXPENSE TO THE UNIVERSITY, BY THE CONTRACTOR CAUSING THEDAMAGE. REPAIRS SHALL BE MADE TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE UNIVERSITYENGINEER.
MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC FLOWTHE UNIVERSITY SAFETY AND SECURITY DEPARTMENT MUST BE NOTIFIED ATLEAST TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF ANY ANTICIPATED WORK AFFECTING TRAFFICFLOW. TO ASSURE MAINTENANCE OF FLOW AND TO SAFEGUARD ALL PARTIESINVOLVED IN PLANNING TEMPORARY ROUTING, A FIELD INSPECTION SHOULD BEMADE JOINTLY BY THE ENGINEER, UNIVERSITY PERSONNEL, CONTRACTORSINVOLVED, AND CITY OF OXFORD OFFICIALS PRIOR TO PERFORMING ANY WORKWHICH WOULD INTERRUPT NORMAL TRAFFIC PATTERNS. LANDSCAPINGALL LANDSCAPING DISTURBED BY CONTRACTOR MUST BE REPLACED AT NO COST TOTHE UNIVERSITY. SITE RESTORATION MUST CONFORM TO THE SITE RESTORATION OFLANDSCAPING SPECIFICATION.IN GENERAL, UNLESS SPECIFICALLY SET FORTH HEREIN, THE WORK AND MATERIALSSHALL CONFORM TO THE APPLICABLE DIVISIONS AND PARAGRAPHS OF THE JAN. 1,2010 EDITION OF THE:
STATE OF OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
MATERIALS AND SPECIFICATIONSUNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE NEW AND BOTHWORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE OF PREMIUM QUALITY, PROPER ANDSUFFICIENT FOR THE PURPOSE CONTEMPLATED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH, IFSO REQUIRED, SATISFACTORY EVIDENCE AS TO TYPE AND QUALITY OF MATERIALS ANDWORKMANSHIP.
ALL ITEMS OF EQUIPMENT AND/OR MATERIAL PROPOSED BY THE CONTRACTOR FORSUBSTITUTIONS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER IN WRITING AND SHALL BEEQUAL OR SUPERIOR TO THE ITEMS SPECIFIED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. IF SAIDSUBSTITUTION PROPOSED BY THE CONTRACTOR FOR A SPECIFIED ITEM REQUIRESENGINEERING REVISIONS, THE TOTAL EXPENSE OF SAID REVISIONS SHALL BE PAID BYTHE CONTRACTOR.
PERMITSTHE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL PERMITS AND PAY ALL CHARGES AND FEES ASMAY BE NECESSARY AND REQUIRED.
RESPONSIBILITYIT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO PERFORM HIS WORK INSUCH A MANNER AS NOT TO DAMAGE OR DESTROY ANY EXISTING FEATURES, (I.E.EXISTING INLETS, CONDUITS, ETC.) WHICH IS NOT MARKED FOR REPLACEMENT ORREMOVAL. IF ANY SUCH DAMAGE DOES OCCUR DUE TO THE OPERATIONS OF THECONTRACTOR, HE SHALL REPLACE THE DAMAGED PORTION AT HIS EXPENSE.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL EXERCISE DUE CARE DURING CONSTRUCTION SO AS NOT TODESTROY ANY TREES, PLANTS, SHRUBS OR STRUCTURES OUTSIDE OF THE INDICATEDWORK LIMITS AND THOSE NOT SPECIFICALLY MARKED FOR REMOVAL OR RELOCATIONWITHIN THE WORK LIMITS.
IN SOME INSTANCES, THE CONTRACTOR MAY BE REQUIRED TO EXCAVATE UNDER ANDAROUND THE EXISTING UTILITIES. EXTREME CARE SHOULD BE USED NOT TO DAMAGETHE UTILITY DURING THIS OPERATION.
WATER POLLUTION, SOIL EROSION AND SILTATION CONTROLTHE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE EXTREME CARE TO PREVENT UNNECESSARY EROSION,WATER POLLUTION AND SILTATION AT ALL POINTS OF THE PROJECT. TEMPORARYSEEDING AND MULCHING; STRAW BALES, SLOPE DRAINS, ETC., SHALL BE USED ASNECESSARY OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.
DUST SHALL BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM. COST OF EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALREQUIRED TO PERFORM THIS ITEM SHALL BE INCIDENTAL TO THE OVERALL BID PRICE.

MOBILIZATION & FIELD OFFICESEE "STORAGE AND PROTECTION" NOTES UNDER GENERAL CONDITIONS
UTILITIESUTILITIES DATA IS BASED UPON INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE UTILITYCOMPANIES AND HAS NOT BEEN VERIFIED BY THE ENGINEER. THE ENGINEERAND THE OWNER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR DATA SUPPLIED BYOTHERS.
UTILITIES NOT UNDERGROUND ARE NOT INCLUDED ON THE PLAN.

THE MARKING OR LOCATINGSHALL BE COORDINATED TO STAY APPROXIMATELY TWO DAYS AHEAD OF THEPLANNED CONSTRUCTION. UNIVERSITY PERSONNEL WILL MARK UNIVERSITYUTILITIES.
