Southwestern Battery Supplys Bus Duct System is unique in that it is housed in anenclosure constructed entirely of high strength clear polycarbonate plastic. The system
is built on site without the need for special rigging, cranes or lifts. The Bus Duct System
can be installed supported by stanchion support poles upon the floor , or suspended
from the ceiling utilizing standardized support structure framing.
The Bus Duct enclosure has removable side covers to allow easy access to perform
maintenance, as well as providing access to the bus to add additional battery drops.
The design of the Bus Duct provides for flexibility in the location of the battery drops
in that they may be located anywhere within the available room on the bus.
Polycarbonate covers are provided to insulate the battery drops, as well as where the
cables or flex bus will attach to the drop.
Each polarity is housed in separate sections of the enclosure so that when a side cover is
removed for access, the other polarity is still enclosed for safety, limiting the shorting
hazard. The Bus Duct is provided with ventilation holes to eliminate any heat build up
inside the duct.
Virtually any Bus Duct layout is permissible with our design. This includes both
vertical height changes from the battery room to the equipment room, as well as busarrangements, which penetrate though a building floor, connecting one floor to
another.
Our Bus Duct has been thoroughly tested. Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis has
verified that our design excels at its ability to keep the voltage drop at or below that
which was specified by the customer, while maintaining its rated ampacity.
Southwestern Batterys Bus Duct has undergone analysis by
Underwriters Laboratory Conformity Assessment and complies with:
UL Subject 1801
Telecommunications D.C. Power Equipment Dated July 1997
UL 1950 3rd
Edition
Standard of Information Technology Equipment Including
Electrical Business Equipment, dated July 28, 1995.

The Bus Duct System is also available for installations requiring overhead support.
Typical height for standard system.
Custom length support stanchions are
available for installations requiring non-
standard support stanchions
Width dimension is typical for a Bus Duct
System that is 10 laminations or less. This
width can be altered when required to suit
on-site restrictions.
