This year in the bursary fund we have $470 (as of Aug). Only 2 students returning to CBC this year, from our

church. One student for 2 semesters, and one student for 1 semester. $530 to fully support and $500 for Spring

2014/2015. Tom said that $100 for bursaries came in this past Sunday.

The church’s expenses put a real squeeze on income in August due to 3 staff payrolls and donations were down.

As of September 8th our budgeted income is short $17,186.00

We have $5,600 in maintenance reserve account for the exterior painting. We also have an additional $3,040 in

donations towards painting giving a grand total of $8,640

There was a vote taken and it was 42 yes for Option #1 and 5 for Option #2. It was asked why paint now? Our

new neighbour’s to the North was a motivator, but upon closer looking at the building, it was evident that painting

and cleaning was needed. Also suggested that now that the trees are removed on the West side, turn that wall into

something attractive and inviting for the community.

d) Signage Information Steve Unger

We have been obtaining quotes for new a new sign. The quotes have been as high as $50,000. We are on hold

company and we received a quote from them for approx. $25,000 Kevin has very graciously offered to help us

with installation in order to keep our cost down. Abe Neufeld will work with The District of Mission to obtain the

permit.

We do not currently have a solid cost but when we do, this will be brought forward to the Congregation. Cherry St.

will be the only exit and entrance and proper signage is needed to identify us.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL REPORT 2014

Ps. 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His love endures forever……

2014 was a year of many changes. The completion of the manor next door to us has brought many of

those changes; especially for those of you who moved in! As a result of this building, we have changed

our church address and access point, and Janzen Avenue has been closed off. Expect to see changes

in signage soon too.

We have been working more closely with the CV Children’s Center this year to raise the profile it has

as a ministry of our church. We have owned CVCC for 10 years now, and are blessed with amazing

staff and committee members. It was exciting to be intentional in our efforts to connect with them with

our Christmas outreach event and see numerous families attend.

We have now bought into a “no fault” insurance plan, after having a couple of incidences of serious

injury in the past few years. This will allow for some financial assistance in the future should any of our

volunteers get hurt while serving at the church.

One of our themes within our leadership this past year was “mentoring”; looking at how we equip and

pass the torch to future generations. I have been fortunate in my role of leadership to be mentored by

Abe Neufeld. He has helped me get through my first year in the capacity of Congregational Chair,

helping me see and understand my role. It has been a steep learning curve, and I covet your prayers

in this area.

I am continually encouraged by the generosity of this congregation in the giving of finances, time and

passion for ministry. This year, as we celebrate 75 years of God’s faithfulness to his people at CVMC,

I want to encourage us all to move forward on this journey we are on, and embrace the changes ahead

with prayer, open minds and hearts; as we endeavor to reach into our community with the gospel, and

a practical hand of friendship.

It is an honor to serve on the Executive Council together with Abe Neufeld, Derek Salmon, Maxine

Eash, Tom O’Malley, Carl Huber and Dan Rempel.

Submitted by Steve Unger.

ELDERS BOARD REPORT FOR 2014

Let us be thankful to God for another year of His rich blessings, filled with grace and joy and peace. Our 74th

year as a congregation, and we continue to be amazed at His great faithfulness to us.

Thank you to all of the leaders and volunteers that so readily gave of your time and resources to help CVMC do

the best in service to our King and to our community. I want to thank our elders team: Abe Neufeld, Brad Unger,

Brian Unger, Derek Salmon, Edgar Rivera, Steve Unger, Steve Wells, Wendell Martens, our pastoral team: Dan

Rempel, Doug Pankratz, and Chad Neustaeter, and our finance chair Shane Elliott, which completed our entire

team. It has been a privilege to serve with you.

It should be noted here that there are a number of elders whose terms are expiring this year, and will not be

returning in this next year; Brad Unger, Brian Unger, Abe Neufeld, Wendell Martens, Steve Wells, (still

considering as of the writing of this report), and myself. There are a few who would be new to the elders team

that as of right now have not responded to this call. We will give them ample time to consider how it is that God

will direct their service. I am happy to know that our executive team has operated this last year with a chair, vice-

chair, and secretary. Here as well this year will bring change, as we will be needing a vice-chair and recording

secretary for 2015.

One committee that still eludes re-establishment is the Missions and Evangelism committee. Let us be a people

of prayer in this regard, to ask of God to give us a hunger and a burden to reach out to those who do not yet

know Him.

Your elders team started this year off with a focus on mentoring and evangelism. Our hope was to stimulate

(firstly) ourselves to the furtherance of the work of God to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We were challenged with devotionals and dialogue on the topics of leadership and acknowledgment of the need

to multiply. How do we continue to build the church? - through relationship building, and caring of each other and

our neighbours around us. With this in mind the elders came together at the end of May to meet with

representatives of Forge Canada. Forge Canada is an organization committed to helping church's relate to the

community within which they reside to bring opportunity to share Christ. MCBC had already retained them to

assist those churches interested in building relationships to bring Christ into the community.

I think that I can report to you that the relationship and mentoring side of this quest has received some traction.

Evangelism, not so much. A question in front of us is; "Why are we not retaining those new-comers that are

entering in our doors?" We have put in place a number of service goals in the past few years - the Welcome

Center, Coffee Corner, Communications team, designed to help enhance our outreach opportunities. Let us use

them to ensure that we are reaching out to those that are new to the family gathered at CVMC.

Summer brought with it some challenges. Concerns were expressed on lack of numerical growth, strain on

financial resources and the thought of can we sustain that which is in place? A number of meetings were held

with elders, executive members, finance leaders, and staff with the hope to put in place forward strategies to

continue in a positive attitude and outlook. These observations indeed took a fair amount of our time, with many

extra meetings to bring about a higher degree of understanding of the needs of the church.

During this time the elders team undertook to do a ministry audit on behalf of CVMC activity in and out of this

building. While this report is not offered as being a concise summary we hope it has captured the energy and

human resource that this congregation is sharing within and outside this community. Report attached for your

perusal, interesting read.

Along with you, the leadership team acknowledge that God himself is sustaining this congregation, both

spiritually and physically, and our hope is to continue to be faithful to the calling He has given us.

Hebrews 13:8. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

Let us put our confidence on the one who loves His church more than we could ever imagine.

The year of 2014 ended well, in contrast to our concerns. However, let us not tarry at doing good.

We have a responsibility to the church and each other and to the community within which we reside.

1st Thess. 5:23, 24. "May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole

spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful

and He will do it."

This is where our trust must continue to reside, not in our own strengths.

On behalf of the Elders Board of Cedar Valley Mennonite Church

Blessings to each of you, God's wonderful people.

Lead Pastor’s Report – Pastor Dan – 2015

- Submitted for January – December 2014 1. Oversee the Vision Implementation

A. Re-evaluating the present goals and sub goals 1. Planting

– Building Authentic Relationships with people under 40 in the community and incorporate them into the local congregation. - Pastor Doug’s ministry focuses most clearly on this work, and we have put some energy into trying

to find ways to grow across the generations by doing things together. Family camp is one of our most clear examples of where our congregation interacts as families in a mixed generation format. Our monthly Cedar Café is another opportunity for all ages to spend time together, as was our Breakfast in Bethlehem Christmas event.

– Seniors Ministry. -The residents have moved in to Cedar Valley Manor and have begun to adjust to this new residence.

As they begin to get to know each other we are exploring ways to enter into these relationships as well. The ministries of Cedar Valley are not aimed only at this residence, yet the awareness of needs within the homes next door needs to be pursued in order that our congregation may engage in practical caring activity as good neighbours.

2. Watering – Develop Healthy Care Groups representing 75% of the congregation – for sound teaching,

developing relationships, and give opportunities to live out our testimony. - The number of Care Groups is down this year, but there is still plenty of opportunity to be involved

in one. Edgar remains the point person for information on which Care Group is meeting and who is involved. The intent of each of these groups is for building the core of our community while the format on how this happens is personal to each group.

3. Maturing – Teach and Disciple individuals to serve and evangelize.

- This past year we have used the resource of Forge (through Mennonite Church BC) to lead some teaching and challenge us to be more aware of our opportunities to bring the gospel into the lives of others. The subject of Evangelism and growing our congregation remains a significant theme or our Elders meetings.

4. Reproduce – Initiate a mentoring program for growth in all areas of our church.

- The various models of mentoring that appear around our congregation remain varied and loosely connected. With the various Women’s ministry groups and the Men’s ministry meetings, the youth programs and children’s ministry, as well as individual efforts to meet together for encouragement among the people of CVMC there is a lot of mentoring taking place. More than 5 years ago we endeavored to find one person who would step into a place of identifying these different mentoring efforts and recognize how we might better coordinate our efforts. To date, we are still pursuing this.

5. Worship – We value Spirit-led worship that honours and glorifies God

- We have a great team of leaders in our Music/Worship Committee. Their mandate on Sunday morning continues to be to find a balance in our styles that can provide opportunity for our diverse group to worship together. The question comes up about whether or not we need to transition into a different style of worship or have less boundaries in what we expect in our worship service. To this point we still feel that the balance has been beneficial to the congregation, yet we remain open to the suggestions of all who attend as to how this might look in the future.

17

B. Focus the Ministry of the CVMC Staff on the vision of CVMC - Our Staff still meets each week on Tuesday morning for an extended period of hearing what is

happening in each other’s lives and in our families. The intent of our Tuesday morning time together is to listen to each other, and to pray for the congregation.

C. Build the vision process into the agenda of the Elders

- Each month the reports to the elders includes these items of our vision/goals and our work to pursue them. The Elders meetings include these items from our Vision and relevant issues that affect our congregation.

2. Oversee Sunday Worship Services

a. Preach Bible Based Messages - The past years themes have included:

- On overview of the Gospel according to Matthew - A series on the Friends of the Old Testament - A series on the Friends of the New Testament - A Study series on Colossians 3:1-17 - A Series on God Working at CVMC - An Advent Series - Arnie Friesen brought two messages on the theme of Finances

b. Oversee Teams that Develop Spirit Led Worship - The Music/Worship Committee oversees the music and format (together with me) of the Sunday

morning service. The intent of each service is to promote a sense of worship in a community atmosphere. The break time still fits with the fabric of who we are as we meet and share in each other’s lives and learn how we might better pray for one another.

c. Oversee Sound and Projection Teams that Implement resources that are useful for contemporary

worship - The equipment is in place and is working well. We could still use some experienced techies in the

booth for both the Sound as well as Projection.

3. Connecting CVMC with the community -This year I did 17 funerals, and two Pleasantview Memorial services. I also helped teach a class at CBC on

conducting funerals for the community. - I did one wedding in January and assisted with one in August. - I no longer sit on any of the active committees for MCBC. - MCBC has a monthly ministerial, as does the community of Mission. We meet for encouragement and

sharing issues that we find in ministry. I also meet once per week on Tuesday mornings with a group of pastors for prayer, and for half the past year for two Thursdays per month with another group of pastors for a time of prayer as well (which may now be replaced with Friday noon prayer meetings)

4. Personal Development

I used most of my vacation days in the past year, which we have not regularly done in most of my years of ministry. The thought of some personal development and sabbatical occurs to me at this time and I will pursue this with the Elders.

F AMILY MINISTRIES 2014 – PASTOR DOUG P ANKRATZ

“How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying His commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of Godly people will be blessed.” Psalm 112:1, 2

It is a great joy to oversee the growing Young Family Ministry at Cedar Valley. The ministry of helping the children discover and understand God’s Word, and assisting families to live purposeful, fulfilled, God honoring lives is a true blessing.

Provide training and counselling for strengthening marriages and families Jenny partners with me in much of this ministry, as together we seek to offer encouragement, advice and the counsel of God’s Word. Marriage Preparation Sessions are offered in the spring and fall with couples from the community attending along with those from the church. Both weddings I performed this year were with couples with no church background and it was a joy to share scriptures of God’s love and pray with them. In another exciting way of connecting with the community I was able to meet with Brad U. in his capacity as teacher of a local public high school and supply him with biblically based material for healthy relationships he then referenced for a Family Studies Class he was teaching. Visitation / Counselling There has been joy and sorrow as we have visited and counselled individuals and families, meeting at the church, in a home, a coffee shop, the hospital or prison; from celebrating with families at the birth of children and mourning with families upon the death of loved ones. It is always humbling as people share their lives with us. We meet with moms who have been left to raise their children on their own, couples who are experiencing extreme relational challenges, children who are struggling with depression, and some who just want to share the joy of being blessed by a loving God. We were told the story of a non-Christian parent who accepted an invitation to a Cedar Valley ministry event and she made the decision personally and privately to accept Jesus as her Savior, sharing her acceptance of God’s gift at a later time with the family. We never know when or where or how God will use His people for His glory. Let us always be mindful of the opportunity to lead others to God’s glorious grace.

I host Dads and Sons Street Hockey on our yard which has been a great way to connect with families from the church and community. If you have a stick, come on out and have some fun.

Develop Care Groups for younger families Jenny and I hosted a Young Adult and Young Family BBQ on Sept 21 at which over 60 people attended. Connecting with the leaders of the current groups working on forming new ones giving all everyone has an opportunity to be a part of a small group. Organizing FaceTime large group gatherings, which have been a great way to connect those not currently in a Care Group. There is great discussion of current issues concerning the family and how to address those from a biblical perspective.

Ladies Bible Moments A Wed morning Bible Study for Young Moms with kids started by Danielle P., now led by Maggie B. and Amanda S. meeting in the nursery that has about 15 moms on its attendance list. The morning includes a play and singing time for the children and then during the Ladies Bible Study time, Carol U. and Janice W. cares for the toddlers and I take the preschool and homeschool children for a Bible Activity Time. This ministry also sees young moms from the community participating. What a joy to see the Nursery full of kids and moms on Wed mornings.

Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Drive. Each fall Maggie B. has been rallying the church to take an empty shoebox home and return it filled with fun and needed items to be delivered to children living in desperate conditions. Cedar Valley has embraced this ministry as over 175 shoeboxes were returned packed with care and filled with God’s love then sent to needy boys and girls in South America. Way to go church fam ily, you are making a difference.

Breakfast in Bethlehem A humble stable, a glorious story. Thank you Carol U. for your oversight organization and inspiration. And to all those who contributed to this ministry, your time and effort have been a blessing to many. (Carol U. writes) This year’s “Christmas Outreach” event took a very intentional look at how we “DO” outreach, and our “Breakfast in Bethlehem” specifically targeted young families, with special invitations to our preschool and AWANA families. It was very well received by more than 400 guests over the 2 days, and on Sunday morning, there were at least 10 new families that came upstairs for the service. These events are always huge undertakings and once again we had well over 100 volunteers working in various capacities. The intergenerational participation of this large team of volunteers is a beautiful example of a church working together. Another special component to this event was the way we carried the theme with our Christmas story characters into the weekly advent services and the family adventure packages. “Breakfast in Bethlehem” was successful, but like any ministry opportunity, we need to evaluate our effectiveness. Is this a good ministry tool? Was it an effective outreach? What is our plan for follow up? How do we measure effectiveness? There were many positive stories that came out of this event. If what we did encouraged families to place a stronger emphasis on the true meaning of Christmas and if we could provide families with some tools to help them teach their children, then I believe we are on the right track.

To be responsible for directing Christian Education for young children The Children’s Ministry Rooms have an exciting new paint scheme, thanks Mark D.

Bible Adventures - Teaching Children, Changing Lives We have 38 children registered. Along with our regular program, Pam H. taught the series Hearing the Voice of God, to the K, 1, 2 class. I am thrilled that one of our missionaries is encouraging our children to hear God’s on their lives. It has been a challenge

19

getting enough teachers throughout the year, but with some new people joining the team all the classes have teachers. Jenny and I hosted BBQ for B/A teachers and leaders in the spring.

AWANA – Because kids Matter to God We have 92 kids registered, which is great, but we need still could use more leaders. Fortunately we have 5 great youth who have joined as helpers. Derek S. and Jordan D. supervised an evening on the climbing wall for the older boys group. There are 10 parents of kids from outside the Cedar Valley family that have signed up to help lead in AWANA. Our Bible Story Time has focused on the life of Jesus. On May 7 we had our Year End Celebration with over 160 parents and families in attendance. We started with a great bible quiz with the kids getting as many correct answers as the parents. The kids shared verses and sang their favorite songs for their parents in a great evening focused on God’s Word. The kids collected $290.00 for the Light of the World Christian School in Guatemala. The boys raised the most so they got to spay the girls with Silly String on the lawn at the end of the evening. Many parents shared what a blessing the ministry of AWANA is to their families and are so pleased that CVMC offers this to the community. I met mom at her workplace and she stated in front of her coworkers that AWANA was the best part of her sons week. Jenny and I hosted a BBQ for the AWANA leaders and many of them have indicated they would like to continue to be a part of this vital ministry in the fall.

Cedar Valley Children’s Center Children Registered: 65 Staff: Dee Braaksma, Ligia Rivera, Wendy McNalley This is another great year for the preschool. While initially registrations were down from last year, the classes have filled. Summer and fall upgrades to the preschool facility started with Mark D. and Diane J. doing a great job painting the entire preschool interior in a much needed freshening up. New sinks, cupboards and counters have been installed, completing this year’s enhancements drawn from the preschools renovation fund, for a total of around $12,000. We are getting some preschool families connected to our Sunday and mid-week ministries. For the annual Mother’s Day Tea on May 8th, Amanda DenHarder was the speaker, sharing words of encouragement and faith to the pre-school moms. Many of the moms are not Christians, so please be in prayer for these opportunities to share God’s Love. The May 27 Graduation was an exciting evening with over 200 in attendance. There are numerous families where the only Christian training comes through the 3 or 4 year old that attends CVCC. What a delight as these children sang the songs of Jesus love. This is a ministry that we would like to expand into the homes in our community.

Nursery - Turning Hearts Toward Jesus We have 18 children registered. Working in our ever expanding Nursery on Sunday Morning, Sheri C. assumed the role of Nursery Supervisor, starting upgrading our Nursery facility and procedures, with Mark and Sheri moving up north, Katy P. and Brianna W. are the new Nursery Supervisors. We are currently evaluating and revising the Nursery Guidelines and Procedures. With the increase in children using the Nursery we have added a fourth person on duty. We are also looking at some minor room modifications to facilitate better check-in and also to separate the infants from the toddlers to enhance the nursery experience.

VBS Weird Animals – Where Gods love is One of a Kind We had 75 children and 50 leaders gather for an incredible week. Some workers were from other churches, with youth and seniors leading as well. Parents continue to express their gratitude for the quality of CVMC’s ministry to children. The children raised $450 to drill wells to provide clean water for a village in India. We continue to get inquiries about other CVMC Children’s Ministry programs from community parents who had their children at VBS. We had 3 new AWANA registrations from families whose only contact with CVMC was through the summer VBS ministry.

Camp Squeah During Spring Break we loaded the VCS Bus up with 52 kids and their parents and spend the day at Camp Squeah. It was cold and wet, but any day at camp is a good day. The activities were well organized and fun, the food was great, but he highlight for me was the 10 min of bright blue sky that opened up above us as we stood atop the lookout on our afternoon hike. Because it was still raining at lunch, one of the young girls asked if we were still going on the hike in the rain. I said yes. The young girl responded that we could pray that God would make the rain stop, and she would pray for blue sky. It rained lightly on the way up the trail, but under the trees we barely noticed. When we got to the lookout, the rain stopped, the clouds parted, and directly above us we had bright blue sky. We talked about God’s glory and goodness on the mountaintop. It was as great day.

Camp Squeah Church Retreat Our theme verse for this year’s Family Camp is 1 Corinthians 9:25 “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.” The Camp committee desired to combine our purpose and ultimate glory of the faith with this year’s Olympic completion. The weekend was filled with fun and faith challenging opportunities to work together as a team.

Sunday Morning The church celebrated with 6 families with the dedication of their children on Father’s Day The opportunity to preach God’s Word is always a great privilege.

Thank you to all the teachers, leaders and helpers who have served in the ministry to children this past year. The instruction of God’s Holy Word to children is an important and high calling. Thank you for allowing the love of Christ to live through you as you touch the hearts and minds of God’s precious ones.

On a personal note: Jenny and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary Our family time away to Vernon and White Lake was very good with lots of sun, sand and swimming. But the highlight of the summer was the birth of our 3rd grandchild, Ellie Ave Megan Pankratz on Aug. 18.

Associate Pastor of Student Ministries

2014 Annual Report

Pastor Chad Neustaeter

What an exciting year 2014 has been. First and foremost I am thankful for the incredible Wednesday

evening youth leaders God has provided for us again this year and how he has answered prayer in providing

them. This fall our leadership team consisted of Tree Chan, Sandy Neustaeter, Morgan Currie, Jordan

Drocholl and Leah McCabe along with Tim Plante, our CBC practicum student. Michelle Elliott also made

herself available when we needed her to help out. The investment and initiative these leaders bring is

encouraging; SOAR couldn’t happen without each of you! I also want to thank our Sunday mornings

Coaches who help with our Cross Training students from grades 6-8. Michelle Elliott, Harry Huber, Maggie

Pigeon and I taught on rotation and these leaders helped to be caring adult voices that raise up this generation

of students to be followers of Jesus, studying the Scriptures for their inspiration and instruction.

Sunday mornings are a time for Jr. Youth to have a special time of instruction often filled with Bible reading,

questions discussion and prayer. This fall we started with what it takes to Make the Grade as school kicked

off in September. Evangelism keeps being on our radar this year as a church theme and we spent October

equipping students to be more prepared to share their story in various ways. November was an exceptional

month where we focused on the life of Samuel and King Saul and discussed Costly Conversations. Even I

was blown away at the lessons we had during that month. We are testing new material as we go into 2015.

The Gospel Project is a Christ-centered curriculum that examines the grand narrative of Scripture and how

the gospel transforms the lives of those it touches. It is good for us to try this material out and see the

impact it can have on our students.

A highlight of our spring program was that we had a Sr. Boys Bible Study for a couple of months just before

summer alternating with youth boys’ soccer/street hockey with Pastor Doug and some older Awana boys.

We also kept momentum going through the summer with some drop in movie/games nights and for the

more adventurous a paintball afternoon with all proceeds supporting our local food bank.

This fall we changed our schedule a bit. Sitting with Tree and Sandy we took our SOAR acronym and

decided to have 2 different styles of nights at SOAR. We decided to have Sold Out evenings which were

more focused on Bible study and small groups and Radical nights which had more activity time but centered

around a Bible devotion in the middle of the evening. This has proven to be an effective strategy in getting

more students to come more consistently.

Our mid-week program has been busy with many new students attending our program. This fall we had 40

recorded visitors of which about 12 that are continuing to return on a regular basis. Our youth program has

a very good connection with VCS and sees many students coming from there. An average night sees us

with about 32 students. Girls continue to outnumber the boys again this year at almost 3 to 1. Our Sr. Girls

group grew from about 5 in September to 12 on our current contact list at year end. The Jr. Girls has grown

the most with 20 on the contact sheet. We have 49 students that could come out on any given night, which

is higher than last year.

Evangelism has continued to be a theme this year as well. January saw us bring 4 students and 2 leaders to

REVERSE which was a Student Evangelism Conference in Redmond WA. These 4 students responded to

the Daniel Challenge to pray every day on their knees for 30 days. On their own they started to do it on the

bus as we were eating lunch on the Saturday and continued as they attended school when we came back.

We kicked September off with SALT curriculum. Evangelism training material with video clips used to

train as well as be conversational starters our students could use with their friends and families. We are

21

excited to attend Fearless (the 2015 theme) again and have promoted since September with 9 students and

3 leaders signed up. It is good to follow up the fall training with the spring conference because the

conference gives time for students to actually go out and practice evangelism and then give them

opportunity to share how things went.

Probably the highlight lesson from the year, where the students actually sat in rapt attention, was when we

discussed the apologetic topic – Did Jesus really ever claim to be God? Wow, did we have fun with that.

Students were flipping through their Bibles, throwing out verses, and getting frustrated as they tried to prove

He did indeed. It was a mind bender, but it was also a time of training how to more fully understand and

interpret the Bible while being able to respond to claims that other make about or against Christianity.

We find that activities and events are a great way for students to invite friends to check youth out and for

leaders to informally connect with students and build trust relationships. Activities this year included a

games night, Mini-Golf, Roller Skating, God’s Not Dead movie night, Bowling, Bigger & Better Night,

Family Gym Games & Pizza night, Corn Maze, CFL Players Night in Abbotsford and an Elf Hunt in 7

Oaks Mall.

Our youth were able to serve in unique ways in our church, community and world by making blankets with

the quilting ladies over spring break, Easter breakfast, Laundry Love, sorting clothes and school kits at the

MCC Warehouse, Adopt-A-Block clean up, helping out at VBS, Pop Running at the MCC Sale, serving at

the annual Path & Pathfinders Celebration, Operation Christmas Child Christmas Box Project, helping

collect food and $$$ with the Firefighers Santa Run and serving at Breakfast in Bethlehem Christmas

program. In the future we hope to include additional service opportunities where there is more personal

interaction on an individual basis.

Seeing growth in our students has been a great highlight this year. We had 9 students attend summer camp

either at Camp Squeah or Luther. Three students went as leaders to Camp Luther where Ashton Neustaeter

decided to get baptized as a result. Paige Elliot shared with us all that she was looking forward to going

back Summer 2015 to be a Junior Leader in Training. CK Hogan, one of the other students who attended

Camp Luther (local camp on Hatzic Island) decided to help with a local VBS put on by Luther leaders and

has also shared that he wants to help lead a Bible study one night. Cassidy Soetisna is one of our grade

12’s this year and she is already preparing to help teach a Bible study in 2015 as well. Spencer Pigeon also

began ushering this year as part of his contribution to Cedar Valley as his home church. It is exciting to see

who God is causing these students to grow and using them to impact the lives of others for his Glory.

As a pastor I have also had the joy of presiding over Devin & Mikayla’s wedding, a funeral in the

community and got to preach 3 times and assist with baptisms

I want to leave you with a quote from a session with a group of youth pastors at Columbia Bible College,

“The primary spiritual responsibility of any one generation is the wellbeing of the generation that

follows.” – Marv Penner Youth Specialties, Canada. Build relationships with other generations but

especially the students of our church. Get to know their names and find out who they are and how you can

pray for them and encourage them. In our Hi Tech/Low Touch society, we need to connect with each other

more and know that others care for us and we have a place to belong. You can make a difference in the life

of a student with a smile, a handshake, and listening ear and a few kind words; it won’t cost you anything!

CVMC BANNER COMMITTEE REPORT - 2014

During the year of 2014 a number of the banners were used. We did not make any new banners but

we are in a process of planning a new banner with the new CVMC logo.

Also Hank Neufeld and Pete Ens worked hard to build a ceiling rack for our banners. One is 90 inches

long. At present we have not been able to use the rack due to the large amount of quilting fabric which

arrived and needed storage.

BLANKET MAKING REPORT - 2014

The dedicated efforts of fewer than 20 ladies continue to produce colorful, warm blankets for MCC’s Material Aid program. A record 1020 full size blankets have been delivered to the Abbotsford warehouse where they are specially folded to fit into the baling machine, after which they are wrapped in heavy duty cardboard and then encased in a special plastic bag and strapped for safe shipment when needed. Requests for material aid are generated from head office when there are special needs such as natural or manmade disasters, refugee placements or other situations where families find themselves with little or no protection from the elements. As part of the Sunday morning series which highlighted the theme “what is God doing at CVMC” I was privileged to tell the congregation about this ministry and how blessed the ladies feel to be able to provide help to some of the world’s least fortunate citizen’s. Each blanket is made up of three layers, the top is usually a bright patchwork pattern, the middle is used blankets, sheets, or other warm fabric and the bottom is new or gently used utile yardage. Each blanket requires a minimum of 6 meters of fabrics and if your math is at work, this totals more than six thousand meters, and at 1,000 meters per kilometer we would have a beautiful path to downtown Mission if all the pieces were laid end to end. Time is the other essential component and is estimated at more than three hours per blanket, a total of more than three thousand hours, based on today’s minimum wage, a sizeable donation. One special blessing this year. Before her death, Sharon Ens was piecing a beautiful king sized quilt in purples and dark greens. This project was given to our group for completion. Two of our ladies chose to make the pieces into three single quilts, these were tied and pinned at a work day and stitched at home. These were given to Sue Chalkais for Seeds of Hope to be given in Sharon’s memory to three specially deserving “grannies” at the orphanage in Zambia. I saw tears in her eyes when she received them. Additionally 150 small baby and children’s blankets have been made for MCC shipment, for sale in the MCC store, and given to Women’s Resource Centre or the Christmas Bureau. We continue to be blessed with sufficient donated materials that we have not purchased fabric for many years. Residents of Cedar Valley Manor have been especially generous, as well as the MCC and Hospital Auxiliary Thrift stores, and dozens of church and community donors. Although our ladies are all aging, we continue to feel that God is using us in a unique way that fits with our life style and is very meaningful. As always, we would welcome any lady who can work with us on alternate Tuesdays from September to April, no special talents required. Submitted by Eleanor Lobb, on behalf of THE GROUP

Camp Squeah Committee Report – 2014

“Let the Games Continue” Last year, May 23 – 25, 2014, our church family gathered for the annual family camp at Camp Squeah. It was a wonderful weekend, with lots of activities, fun, friendship and fellowship. Camp Squeah is a retreat set in a wonderful forest of trees, with cabins, lodges and RV sites where throughout the year different groups come together to enjoy God's creation, the trees, the trails, the woodlands, and also as a retreat to worship and have fellowship, as well as enjoy the many activities offered. Our theme “Let the Games Continue” was a continuation of the Olympic theme. We had teams which brought camp participants together and gave us all an opportunity to spend time with church family with whom we previously had had little involvement. From the very first event to the last one, teams were competitive, supportive, encouraging, and noisy! Points were awarded for achievement, for effort, for just being there, in everything we did....activities, meal time, quiet time, with everyone responding so whole heartedly to the challenges. We are anticipating a similar team theme for the 2015 camp. Camp attendance was a wonderful mix of seniors-7, adults-76, young teens-8 and lots of children-20. Highlights were the 'games' themselves, as well as the talent show and the Silent Auction, with monies raised ($485) going to our Camp Bursary fund. Sunday, after our morning worship and lunch, the grand finale of camp, the baseball game, closed camp and everyone agreed it had been a great camp. Many thanks to all those who participated by coming to camp and to those who volunteered their assistance at camp. A BIG thank you to Breanna for taking on the Silent Auction and making it such a success. Also, to Nathan, another successful Horseshoe Tournament!

Your Camp Committee hope that you will be back again this year. MAY 22 -24. NOTE YOUR CALENDAR

Invite your friends and neighbours!

2014 Committee: Pastor Doug, Cheryl Dyck, Lyn Ens, Mark and Amanda Den Harder, Nathan and Emily, Mark and Sheri Currie. Thank you everyone for all the work and planning done to make camp such a great success. 2015 Committee: Enjoy our Camp. Please consider joining our committee. Mark and Sheri have moved north, and Emily and Nathan have other commitments, so our committee is depleted. We will be meeting in late February to start planning for 2015 Camp.

CEDAR VALLEY CHILDREN’S CENTRE 2014

We give God the glory for the work at Cedar Valley Children’s Centre and so my report will be

formatted in a way we can thank God together. Thank God with us for: -The encouragement Amanda DenHarder provided speaking at our Mother’ Day Tea - Once the teacher strike ended we had 60-65 full time students enrolled. - Our new paint job replacing wood panel boards. What a bright difference. Returning

parents noticed and said, “ Its so bright and clean in here?” “Did you clean?” - New Cupboards, counters, and preschool height sinks! Again what a difference! - CVMC s Breakfast in Bethlehem. Many CVCC families attended and a handful of

“unchurched” families attended the Sunday Service. We are so thankful for a Santa Claus Alternative with Truth!

- Students singing their little hearts out celebrating the birth of Jesus in a packed sanctuary.

- A flood of families registering this January for September 2015. - For dedicated hardworking committee members like Michelle, Sheila, Alison, & April who

sacrificed their time for this ministry. We will miss Michelle. - For Tom taking care of our money matters. - We are thankful that God has made it possible for CVCC to do some needed upgrades

and to give Wendy and Ligia well deserved raises. - We are thankful for the possibility of giving CVCC a facelift. Some of our unedged

unmatched tattered carpets are as old as the preschool. (35+ years) The floors are peeling grey painted concrete. 40 children sit on these floors everyday and 60 new families will take a tour through the preschool as they consider registering their children. Parents who attended CVCC as preschoolers say it looks exactly the same. We are looking at replacing some of these carpets or possibly resurfacing the entire floor.

- We are also looking into the possibility of installing two toilets in the preschool area. Presently we have two teachers for 20 children. The washrooms are too far for preschoolers to go unattended. Therefore if one student needs the washroom it leaves the other teacher alone with 19 three/four year olds.

- We are thankful for the support of CVMC. We have never felt as much support as we do this year. So thank you and please pray with us:

- Regarding flooring upgrades and washroom decisions. - Regarding upgrades to make Christian Preschool a possibility for special need students - That CVCC would be a God glorifying ministry that contributes to families coming to know

Jesus better. - That families lacking a home church might find one in CVMC Teaching a child to count is not as important as teaching them what counts. Dee Braaksma

COLUMBIA BIBLE COLLEGE

CHURCH MATCH BURSARY TEAM - 2014

I wish to express gratitude to Jenny Pankratz and Val Goerzen for remaining on the CBC Matching

Bursary team through 2014. Together with you the church, support was offered to 3 students through

the year. Spring 2014 saw Sydney Hinchcliffe, Josh Drocholl and Jordan Drocholl each receive $500

towards their education which was matched ($500 each) by Columbia Bible College. Sydney thoroughly

enjoyed the Quest program. As we moved into the 2014-15 school year, Jordan Drocholl applied for

only the fall semester while Josh applied for a full school year bursary. Designated funds were available

to support both of them with $1000 in September for the fall semester. Josh is continuing his studies

and our designated fund presently has $480 of the $500 needed for a full bursary in the spring 2015

semester.

This means that you as a church supported these students financial with an extra $2500.00 above

budget in 2014 as we partnered with our conference bible school to equip and train our young adults

for future vocation and ministry. Thank you so much for investing in our students!

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM - 2014

Purpose Statement: To create awareness of available communication methods.

Everything we do and say communicates something to someone. Let us strive to communicate to those

around us who God is and what He has done in our lives.

We are in the process of putting up our first temporary sign at our new church entrance at Cherry Ave,

as well as some smaller directional signs to help with traffic flow as a result of parking lot changes. The

plan is that eventually, two big illuminated signs with reader boards will be erected one at that entrance

and one on Cedar St.

Kevin Froese and Terry Wills continue to work as our tech advisors. Cheryl Dyck is very adept at passing

on information in print form or through emails, or Facebook. Cheryl and Amanda Salmon also try to

keep our web site up to date. Ron St. Hilaire helps us with discernment about decisions in our newer

faster world of communications. Peggy Goerzen is working with our media presentations in the Sunday

morning service, both in the lobby and sanctuary. It is truly a blessing to be able to work with such a

talented team.

There are areas that still need attention in terms of printed brochures for various church ministries that

would be made available in our welcome center, and quarterly newsletters.

If there are others who have an interest in how we COMMUNICATE in all these capacities, and want to

bring your creativity or expertise to the table, please let us know.

Thanks be to God.

Cedar Valley Senior Housing Society (CVSHS) Report to Cedar Valley Mennonite Church (CVMC)

Congregation Members - February 2015

Today we see the accomplishment of our dream as construction of the Cedar Valley Manor (CVM),

adjacent to the church is now completed. The project, which has received the various required

approvals, has been available to the public for sale to prospective purchasers for the past six months.

‘Cedar Valley Manor Life Lease Society

(CVMLLS) is the developer/owner of the

new facility. This society, a group with

Mission Association of Seniors Housing

(MASH) as the Principal, developed and is

now selling the project. Presently there

are 25 units sold and occupied, down two

from the 27 previously reported as a result of two recent withdrawals due to incapacity and death.

Our Cherry Street property has been redeveloped, as planned, as an extension of the CVMC parking

lot, incorporating a more formal, safer, entry/exit to the sites (CVMC and CVM) from Cherry Street. The

transfer of ownership of that site to CVMC, as previously committed by CVSHS, is now poised to be

completed.

Hereafter it will be a relative quiet future for our Society. We now need to address the question as to

whether there is a continued role for, and the need, to maintain the Cedar Valley Senior Housing

Society, or whether we take the necessary actions for ̀ winding up’. The primary purpose in maintaining

the Society would be to continue its role with MASH, of whom we were founding partners, thus enabling

us to have a voice, and address future needs and perhaps projects, for affordable Seniors’ housing

options in Mission. Please give prayerful thought as to what options could be considered.

I particularly want to acknowledge the effort of our Board members in various roles throughout this

process, and sincerely thank them for their dedicated activities on behalf of the Society. Those are as

follows:

Pete Ens: - Vice Chairman; CVMC/CVSHS Liaison Group; Property management and

miscellaneous site works in conjunction with MASH/CVMLLS and Davies Sand and Gravel.

Vic Doerksen: - Secretary; Property maintenance.

Carol Unger: - Treasurer.

Florence Graham, Don Lobb and Hans Weterings – MASH/CVMLLS Board members

representing our Society.

We lift thanks to the Lord, who has led us in patience to this point of our undertaking.

Respectfully submitted,

Ian Waters,

Chairman: Cedar Valley Senior Housing Society CVMC/CVSHS Liaison Group

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE – 2014

Maintaining our buildings is something that has no end. With a small committee of four men, Nathan

Unger, Wolf Klix, Leonard Dyck, and Stan Friesen there is always something to do.

In 2014, the scheduled workday was snowed out, so a proper spring cleanup was not done.

In May, the trees on the west side of the building were cut by Derek Salmon and cleaned up by some

of the men from the committee.

In June, an unfortunate accident caused Stan to stop being actively involved as far as physical work

was concerned, leaving only 3 men to do the jobs required. It seemed that during this time the pace of

things requiring to be done really picked up.

In July and August quotes were taken for the painting of the exterior of the sanctuary.

In September, thanks to the good weather, Mark Doerksen was able to complete the painting.

Thanks, Mark, for a job well done.

The last part of the year was coordinating with the Manor in paving and curbing the parking lot and

generally completing construction issues between the two buildings. Thanks to Pete Ens for heading

that up with help from Don Lobb and Ian Waters. A snow removal contract was set up as well.

Thank you to all who helped when called upon. With a bigger committee, it will be easier to spread the

work out.

MENNONITE CENTRAL COMMITTEE- 2014

MCC continues to be involved in relief on a worldwide basis. The needs seem greater than ever. One

of the great concerns is the Islamic state, upsetting life for many in the Middle East.

The ongoing Syrian conflict has created needs for assistance for up to 10 million people.

Over 100,000 homes were destroyed in Gaza in its conflict with Israel.

1.4 million are facing extreme hunger in South Sudan.

There is ongoing conflict in the Ukraine and is creating much need for help.

The Philippines continues to recover from typhoons.

MCC has allocated double resources from the previous year. Our account at Canadian Food Grain

Bank is maxed out. Needs we can help with are: relief kits, hygiene kits, quilts.

Our church donated $720. to penny power this year. Thank you to all the volunteers, quilters and

financial supporters at CVMC.

CVMC MEN’S MINISTRY & FELLOWSHIP - 2014

God continues to move this Ministry and Fellowship forward, and in review, again, He has moved us higher and closer to Him in all areas.

AGAIN this past year has been inspirational, encouraging and exciting, as He continues to open many doors.

His time, His will and our opportunity to serve. The one constant has been the strength of our faith, as a team.

We are in UNITY in Him ~ Committed, caring and together! I f this is your f irst peak at our Men's Ministry and Fel lowship, we gather once a month, have breakfast, & share t ime together as men. Our goal is to support each other to grow together in our faith, and to be the Godly leaders we care cal led to be in our homes, church, community and beyond. Here is a quick glimpse of a few of our milestones: Along with our regular fellowship breakfasts we part ic ipated in a number of special act ivit ies and events. This past year some of our men made themselves avai lable to help out in the move-in for Cedar Val ley Manor. In addit ion, some of us men took part in the Iron Sharpens I ron National Equipping Conference October 25 t h in Coquit lam. Another great opportunity was to support and cook up pancakes and sausages for the “Breakfast in Bethlehem” special outreach opportunity. We had a great t ime cookin’ and this special event was a huge success. In addit ion to that, we had opportunit ies for those interested to take in a professional Whitecaps soccer game, and a BC Lions CFL game - both FAITH NITES. ~ “Mission Men in UNITY” , ~ men from our church and 26 churches plus Val ley Christ ian School in Mission gathered together for a special breakfast with Ken Keis, a dynamic speaker and community leader f rom Abbottsford who shared his journey and test imony. Ken is a very successful management “help” consultant and an ordained pastor. Looking ahead, we at CVMC, with the support of our leadership at al l levels, are looking forward to more growth through “Mission Men in UNITY” with other area churches. Growing in our faith, as men in our homes, churches, community and beyond. Together, caring and support ing each other. In closing, again it has been a wonderful year, br inging our men together to serve Him. We are called, We are Blessed! I t is with joyful antic ipation we eagerly await His direct ions and plans to see growth in His Kingdom. Please cont inue to Pray for our men and famil ies as we continue to reach out to other men in our community. We meet for breakfast the second Saturday of each month f rom September to July f rom 8 to 9:15 a.m. Forwarded on behalf of our Mission Men in UNITY at CVMC ~ In His Name ~ respectfully submitted, on behalf of our Men ’s Ministry and Fellowship Team ~ Ron St.Hi laire.

NOMINATIONS – FEBRUARY 2015

As Brad had announced at the beginning of the nomination season, we would be approaching

the season in the same way we did last year. (Rather than ask you, we would let you as

individuals decide what you wanted to do, and volunteer for it.) Through this process, we have

been excited to see you encouraging each other to come to Brad or myself and volunteer for a

given ministry. This has enabled many of you to communicate on a different level, encouraging

one another to go back to a committee you were once on, or step into something altogether

new.

Some of you have stepped up and volunteered for Ministries which the Nominations Committee

had asked you to consider years ago, but you may have declined for whatever reason, but

inevitably, upon declining, many of you would say “but don’t forget about me, please check with

me next year. “I appreciate the honesty in that statement and it is very encouraging for us as a

committee to see that you would really keep considering the possibility of going into a given

ministry when the time was right. After all, we as a committee can only ask you to volunteer,

the decision is made between God and you. That is how His work is done.

NIV Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to

prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” For some, this verse

means that God wants them to be better off in material goods and wealth, but ask yourself

“What would it look like to see His ministry at CVMC prosper? “ And when you’ve thought and

prayed about that, ask God to show you which part He wants you to play in prospering and

growing His ministry in our church community and the community around us. Who knows, you

may discover that you are right where God wants you to be. But what if he has something

different in His plan for you?

You may not see it, but God is doing, and will continue to do great things through us individually

and as a body of believers IF we will allow Him to work through us!

Thank you for the devotion and the passion that each on you demonstrate, as you work

together in His ministry at CVMC.

Sound Staffing

Working within time limits: Very appreciative that our volunteer team is able to commit to continued involvement throughout lifes ever changing cycles.

Wendell has been unable to be involved as much as intended due to working schedules, now he and Denise with prayerful considerations for future baby / family have decided it is time to attend worship services closer to home. Blessings to them as they move on with this new chapter in their lives and special thanks for all Wendell has done within the CVMC sound.

Do you like music? Do you enjoy learning technology? Lots of room for training of others to become involved.

Projection Staffing

Dayton has stepped down from projection duties due to work scheduling demands - Big thanks to Dayton for all he has done over the last few years.

2014 Budget

Replaced the projection computer this last summer - slow startups and ever increasing computer processing demands made this necessary. Startup used to take 2.5 to 3 minutes, Now this requires only 25 seconds.

Rebuilt and repurposed the former projector computer to use for sound recordings. Sound computer has less demands upon it.

Very important to have any videos etc. to the projector tech for Thursday rehearsal to ensure smooth operation on Sunday. Not wise to run videos from online sources during worship services due to reliability with regard to 'streaming'.

Good progress in this area from our pastoral team as well as good comunication to special groups who may show up Sunday morning with media in hand posing a high risk for failure.

As always we understand that God works within his timing and endevor to be equiped to the best of our ability, striving to provide assistance as best as is possible.

General comments

As always it has been a great year working with the worship teams and pastoral staff. Special thanks to all the congregation for their active participation in the Sunday service.

Sound and Projection are essential support elements to the Sunday Worship service. Please be in prayer for future sustainability in these areas. Lots of opportunity for others who may be interested to serve in Sound and Projection.

Looking forward to another exciting year working with all those involved in all of the Church programs and ministries which are affected by our area of ministry.

USHER REPORT – 2014

We want to thank each one of our ushers for their willingness and dedication to server at ushering

God’s people at CVMC.

We made a few changes this year: for the first time in two years we finally have four full teams of ushers.

As leader of the team Harry Huber felt it was a good time for some other changes and asked Glen Kask

to become co-ordinator of the ushers and Nolan Baerg to be a new captain.

The four teams are as follows:

Captain Vern Friesen with Ron Parkes, Florence Graham and Nathan Unger

Captain Stan Friesen with Don Lobb, Len Dyck and Matthew Unger

Captain Stan Rempel with Gary Klassen, Eleanor Lobb and Dennis Chan

Captain Nolan Baerg with Edna Rempel, Spencer Pigeon and Harry Huber.

The ushers have begun holding regular quarterly training meetings and are working on developing an

updated Ushers’ Manual. One of the projects for the coming year is to organize a fire drill.

In the coming year the ushers will be looking to recruit more female and male members to serve as

subs and on a fifth team – for special events such as funerals and evening events.

It has been a great privilege to work alongside all the ushers throughout this year.

If God is calling you to serve as an usher we would like to welcome you to our team. Talk to any usher,

or Glen Kask.

WELCOME CENTER REPORT – 2014

The purpose of the Welcome Center is to be a central source of information for new people; giving them

direction in the building and information about our programs. Working closely with our greeters, we

have the privilege of being the front line people; the first ones to meet our guests.

There continues to be at least 1-2 new people or families coming through our doors each week. The

job of making those guests feel welcome is not solely the responsibility of our greeters and welcome

center staff, but all of us!

In response for a request for a Bible from one of our guests, we have now purchased a stock of Bibles

that will be kept in the Welcome Center specifically for this purpose.

Our current team of Welcome Center volunteers consists of: Abe Neufeld, Phyllis Beutle, Marion

Schultz, Martha Janzen, Katie Pankratz, Clara Klassen, Leona Martens and Steve Unger. If there are

others of you out there who would like to join our team, we would love to have you.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY REPORT – 2014

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thess. 5:11

Once again a new year has come and it's hard to believe the old year has already come and gone. Once again, as a committee we hosted several events for the women of CVMC starting with: Spring Brunch – our theme was “Blossoming” and Amy Huber shared from her heart a very moving and touching testimony. We were very blessed to hear from her. We encouraged women to sit with others they may not know as well to forge new friendships. Teaching Day – we were excited to have Pamela Hooge come and share with us in June about “Listening to God's Voice.” This was well attended by our own ladies and several from the community. We were able to share with each other after the teaching and were very blessed by the openness of the women. Fall Kick Off Brunch – our theme for this event was “Truly Beautiful – From the Inside Out” based on Proverbs 31. We wanted this to be a fun, happy, lively event so to this end we had a photo booth set up with props where we took some great photo's of our ladies together looking beautiful and sometimes a little silly. A skit was performed with a couple of husbands in the background and it was a huge hit. Linda's friend Kayleigh shared her amazing story of recovery with us and was a big part of our event. MCC Pies - some of the committee members helped Carol & Denise bake pies this year for the MCC sale in September and as a committee we also donated some funds to help cover costs. Camp Squeah Retreat – the theme this year was “Unwrap your Gifts.” Christmas High Tea – was held at the church again this year and was catered for us by a friend of Gayle's. This is always a lovely time of fellowship in a beautiful environment. We had around 60 ladies attend with several coming over from Cedar Valley Manor. Connections and friendships are being made and it is wonderful to see. Michelle Elliot shared with us. Women's Bible Studies – we currently have three being hosted by Linda on Monday nights, Gayle on Friday mornings, and Maggie meets with the young mom's on Wednesday mornings. All three are well attended. We would love to add a few more members to our committee so if you love to promote friendships, and help and encourage the women in our church, we have a place for you! We are committed to supporting the women of CVMC, and thank you for attending our events and supporting us in return. Blessings. Submitted by Pam Drocholl

WORSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT 2014

Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him! ~ Psalm 147:1

Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! ~ Psalm 100:2

Through Him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is,

the fruit of lips that acknowledge His name. ~ Hebrews 13:15

As a committee we are incredibly blessed and humbled by the privilege we have been given to lead our church family in worship at the throne of God each and every Sunday of the year. It is not a task we take lightly as much thought, time, prayer, and planning goes into each week’s song selection in partnership with the pastor who is bringing the message that Sunday. We are in awe of the Spirit’s leading as over and over, the sermon and the chosen songs line up in a way that we couldn’t have foreseen, and God shows up in a way that we couldn’t have planned ourselves! Isn’t it amazing to weekly be a part of a church family where we can feel and experience God’s presence together, and worship our holy and omnipotent Lord? We are blessed!

This year we enjoyed a Hymn Sing in April, with our October Hymn Sing needing to be postponed until January. Our goal is to continue with a Hymn Sing on the 4th Sunday of both April and October, following Cedar Café lunch so that it isn’t an extra trip back for folks. Hymn stories and special numbers are interspersed with the hymns. All are welcome to join in this enjoyable and meaningful time!

Some extra events that we provided music for, were at our Camp Squeah’s Friday evening game time and Saturday evening fireside, the Sunrise Service in Griner Park Easter Sunday, and our beloved Christmas Eve service. We were so thankful for Abe and Anne Neufeld providing us with pre-service apple cider, and all those who donated cookies and squares. Our Christmas Eve service continues to draw in our community and our prayer is that through all the music, readings, Scripture, sharing, and fellowshipping of the evening, they are getting the clear message that Christ is the reason for celebrating Christmas.

In September we organized the muffins and coffee time for Kick-Off Sunday, along with face-painting and balloons for the children to add a fun element to the day.

We also hosted our annual Worship Connection, a time of food, fellowship, sharing, and training for all those involved on our Worship teams (we number approximately 30, with about 11 on each Sunday) plus those interested in filling spots in areas that have openings. Currently we are looking for people to serve in power point, sound or drums, please let us know if God is nudging you to serve in any of those areas!

Through much time, effort, hard work, and generous donations, we were able to accomplish our fundraising goal that began a number of years ago, and we have now purchased a new Roland keyboard for the church. It will be a welcome addition to Sunday morning, and because it’s portable it will also be able to be used for events in the basement. Thank you to all who had a part in the fundraising, we look forward to enjoying the lovely sound of the keyboard for many, many years.

Worship can be described as Willingly Offering Reverence, Submission, Honour, Intimacy and Praise. Our prayer for you, our church family, is that each Sunday you will choose to join in WORSHIP and can say along with us, “You thrill me, Lord, with all You have done for me! I sing for joy because of what You have done.” (Psalm 92:4)

Prayerfully submitted by Jenny Pankratz and Val Goerzen (co-chairs) on behalf of: Linda Rempel, Karin Rempel, Justin & Alison Pankratz, and Reuben Goerzen
