When the Bruce Power Refurbishment Implementation Agreement was signed by the Province of Ontario and Bruce Power, Hatch realized a business opportunity and moved to Bruce County. Hatch opened their doors in Port Elgin in July 2016. “We relocated to Bruce County (Saugeen Shores) to be closer to Bruce Power but ultimately to be closer to the community that we will be working in” said Elizabeth Buckmaster, Client and Stakeholder Relations Manager with Hatch during an interview with Jessica Linthorne, Community Development Officer with the Town of Saugeen Shores. The downtown Port Elgin office is only one of many satellite locations. In addition to Hatch’s Corporate Head Office and Nuclear Centre of Excellence in Mississauga, Hatch has 65 permanent offices around the world. Today the engineering, procurement and construction management firm has 9,000 employees around the world. Hatch had significant previous experience with Bruce Power, having worked continuously there with its partners from 2001 to 2013. After a period with little activity, in December 2015 Hatch identified an opportunity to move forward with a different approach. They developed an independent Nuclear QA programme and soon opened the local office. In speaking with Elizabeth Buckmaster, Client and Stakeholder Relations Manager for Hatch, she explains how Hatch has set up a “local shop” before. “A good example is our Sudbury office. We (Hatch) saw a need to open the office and we now have 130 people working in the space. We’ve had the Sudbury location open for almost 30 years.
