International companies, financial firms and consultingcompanies require professionals to prove their knowledge ofBusiness English with a high quality training program and anofficial certificate.

In a bid to round out its Business English Training Program andensure that students receive official certification, Centro de EstudiosGarrigues offers participants the chance to study Business English ingreater depth with a program whose main aim is to trainparticipants in all of the areas necessary to obtain the officialBEC (Business English Certificate) from the University ofCambridge.

Aims and outcomes• To provide all those who pursue their professional career in

areas such as finance, human resources, marketing, etc. withan English training program that enables them to obtain theBEC (Business English Certificate) from the University ofCambridge.

• To train participants in terminology, expressions, concepts,styles, etc, that allow them to confidently develop theirprofessional skills on an international stage.

• To enable students to showcase their ability to communicate inEnglish with clients and colleagues.

Who should attend• Professionals with any level of professional experience or

responsibility who are exposed to international business issuesand transactions.

• Final-year students, graduates and postgraduates who need toround out their training in a practical and realistic manner,obtaining an official Business English Certificate in the process.

Methodology & certificationCandidates will perform an initial test to assess their true Englishlevel to ensure that they are properly placed.

Real-life scenarios, dynamics and role plays will be created tostimulate students and help them overcome certain fears andinhibitions. Oral mastery drills encouraging the student’s individualparticipation in group meetings. Business writing skills andexercises will be performed weekly, allowing students to improvetheir writing skills at any given level. Grammar points andthorough explanations will be covered to consolidate a solidstructure and foundation of the language.

Candidates will receive an official Certificate from the Centro deEstudios Garrigues at the end of the course. In addition, they willreceive an official certificate from Cambridge ESOL if the exam ispassed.

The BEC is an official English Certificate issued by the University ofCambridge that evaluates the participant’s Business English leveland ability to effectively develop their activity in an internationalbusiness scenario.

THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF BEC

BEC Preliminary Preliminary English B1Test (PET) (ALTE level 2)

The BEC comprises reading, writing, listening and speakingtests. In the BEC Preliminary examination, the reading and writingtests take the form of one question paper. In the BEC Vantage andHigher examinations, there are separate reading and writingpapers. Each test is based on realistic business texts, tasks andtopics.

The BEC is proof that students have acquired the necessary Englishtools and are able to use them in a business context.

The BEC is also based on the UK Qualifications and CurriculumAuthority’s National Standards for Literacy, within the NationalQualifications Framework (NQF).

Students must provide evidence of their ability to use English in reallife situations such as meetings, expressing professional opinions,delivering public presentations, understanding business texts, etc.

Prof. Juan Ignacio de Uriarte

Juan Ignacio holds a BA/BSc in Business Studies by London Guidhall University, London.

He started his professional career at Airbus in the marketing department. After that hejoined Vaughan Systems where he became director of the MIP (Masters in ProfessionalEnglish and EMIP (Executive part-time MIP), designing layouts and syllabus as well asleading a group of 14 teachers and helping 80 part-time and full time students becomeproficient users of the English language in a period of 10 months.

At present, Juan Ignacio is founder and chairman of B2B languages – a CorporateLanguage training Company – and Professor at the “Centro de Estudios Garrigues” inseveral of its post grade training programs.
