Project Overview
• Refurbishment of Main & Cargo Tunnels• Replacement or Introduction of 24 various systems
• Structural Works, Life Safety Equipment, Architectural
• Objectives• Reduce risk to life to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)
• Suitably reduce business continuity risk
• Replace life expired assets
• Minimise operational cost impacts
• Improve passenger experience

Traffic Management
• Planned Closures • Various configurations of lane closures from 22:00-05:30
• Always one lane in and one lane out available
• No day-time main bore closures
• Side bores closed throughout duration of works
• Extensive Modelling undertaken and numerous alternatives considered
• Traffic Trials undertaken April 2013
• Cyclists• Will remain to use the side-bores during survey works
• Will not be permitted to use the tunnels during these works
Programme
• Apr-14 Surveys Commence• 22:00-05:30 night time closures only
• Side-bores remain open during the day
• One side-bore to main open at night for cyclists (alternates)
• Cladding to be removed
• May-14 Surveys Conclude
• May-14 Main Works Start• 22:00-05:30 night time closures only
• Both side bores closed 24/7
• Any extension of times will be proceeded by trial closures first
• Dec-15 Main Works Complete
