REMEMBRANCE DAY 11TH NOVEMBER
LEST WE FORGET
The Remembrance Day service will be conducted
by the students tomorrow. This ceremony marked
the ninety-sixth anniversary of the Armistice. The
choir will introduce the service by singing “In
Flanders Fields”. Student leaders will briefly
outline the significance of this day and how fighting
in World War 1 stopped on the 11th hour of the 11th
day of the 11th month in 1918.
At first this day was called Armistice Day, which
means the “Putting down of arms or weapons” but
now we know it as Remembrance Day.
The placing of flowers by the students around the
flag pole and the playing of “The Last Post” will
complete the ceremony.
I do hope you join us for this Remembrance Day
service.
REMINDER
CURRICULUM DAY – 2ND DECEMBER
Please make sure this date is in your diary. This is a
student-free day. Staff will be preparing for 2017
and finalising all the necessary documentation and
records for 2016.
STAFFING FOR 2017
It is most difficult to determine staffing needs when
parents do not inform the school that their
child/children will not or may not be here in 2017.
There are circumstances when last minute decisions
are made (eg Work transfers; moving interstate;
personal situations) and this is understood, however
when families have known they are moving and
have still not informed the school this makes it very
difficult for the management of a school as it can
seriously effect staffing and class sizes.
PLEASE LET THE SCHOOL KNOW
IMMEDIATELY IF YOUR CHILD WILL NOT
OR MAY NOT A BE ATTENDING THIS
SCHOOL NEXT YEAR.
I appreciate your attendance to this matter.
PAYMENT OF REQUISITES
DON’T FORGET payment of student requisites and
materials for 2017 can be made at the school office
anytime between 8.00am and 4.30pm or by the
direct deposit details on the notice. In addition, the
school office will be open on Thursday 24th
November 2016 until 5.30pm and Monday 30th
January, 2017, between 9.00am and 12.00pm.
EARLY PAYMENT
Once again, as an incentive for early payment, we
are offering a ticket in a draw for one student’s
contribution to be free. This draw will take place on
Friday 16th December, 2016.
EXCEL MUSIC OPEN LESSON DAY
On Monday 12th December EXCEL MUSIC will be
hosting an Open Lesson Day. Parents will have the
opportunity to attend their child’s lesson and
observe the progress that has been achieved during
the course of the year. It also enables students to
perform for an audience which is very important for
their musical development and personal growth.
ELECTION OF 2017 SCHOOL LEADERS
On 28th November, we will be holding elections for
School Captains, School Sports Captains, President,
Secretary and Treasurer of the Student
Representative Council, School Arts Captains and
School House Captains.
The class representatives for the Student
Representative Council will be elected in early
February 2017.
Students should prepare a short speech on why they
wish to be a school leader in 2017, outlining their
skills, abilities and personal qualities, which would
make them suitable for the position. The speech
should be no longer than two minutes. Senior
School staff will provide the students with more
information.
Students in 2016 Middle School (Years Three to
Four) and Senior School (Year Five) will cast their
votes.
I encourage all students to put themselves
forward if they wish to be a leader next year.

Springtime is pea time! It’s been very satisfying (not to mention fun!) reaping produce from our
revitalised kitchen garden in the last week or so. We now have lettuce, coriander, parsley,
marjoram, thyme and Vietnamese mint at our disposal, and the leeks and strawberries are not
far away. We have taken some licence with this week’s recipe by adding some gorgeous, fresh
broadbeans from the garden to our Butter Lettuce, Green Pea and Ricotta Salad. I always enjoy
watching the students’ amazement as they pick the biggish beans, and pod them to reveal the
pretty little beans inside, nestled in the velvety inside of the pod.
Butter lettuce, green pea and ricotta salad

1 butter lettuce, rinsed
200g (1 cup) ricotta cheese

Add the sugar snaps and snow peas and cook for a few minutes until they are emerald
