The 1989 boys varsity tennis team was a collection of young, talented athletes. They overcame numerous obstacles on the path to the first Middlesex League Title in the school’s history. The first obstacle was to believe that they could accomplish something that had never been done in school history and the second was to beat two of the best teams in the state (Winchester & Lexington). After losing the first match to Winchester (3-2) they proceeded to win their last 11 matches including a 4-1 victory over Winchester and a 3-2 victory over Lexington earning themselves and the school their first league title.

Class of 1975


Mark Annunziata, class of 1975, was a three year starter for the football team and captained the lacrosse team. Mark was selected both junior and senior year to the Middlesex League All Star Football teams. He was also chosen for the Lowell All Star Game his senior year. Mark was an honor roll student as well as class vice president.Mark went on to Hamilton College where he was a four year letterman in football. He was also a founding member of the Hamilton Rugby Club. Mark graduated with a degree in history and moved to Florida where he started a contracting business with his brother Steve, also a Burlington High Athletic Hall of Fame member.Mark currently resides in Wellington, Florida with his wife Teresa and has three grown children, Kristin, Maria, and Anthony.

Class of 1964


Craig Cooper, Class of 1964, started playing football for Burlington in the 7th grade(Jr High team), as an 8th grader, he was a starter for the Freshman team. As a Freshman, he started for both the Freshman team and the Junior Varsity, while being second string for the Varsity. From Sophomore year through Senior year, he was a Varsity starter, playing both offense and defense. In his Junior year he was named the James Govonni Award winner for outstanding lineman, also received Honorable Mention from Sam Weisberg of the Lowell Sun for the all area team. Coop was Co-Captain of the football team in his Senior year, again he was named the James Govonni Award winner for outstanding lineman. Sam Weisberg of the Lowell Sun selected him to the all area team. Coop was selected as the outstanding male athlete of the Class of 1964. Coop was a starting pitcher for Coach Curtain's Varsity Baseball team for 3 years. In his senior year, opposing teams nick-named him "Fireball". On one hot, humid day Coop threw 9 innings of no-hit ball, 17 strikeouts, only to lose the game on a booted ground ball and errand throw. Coop is the proud father of 4 children, Jennifer, Adam, Gavin and Josie and 6 grandchildren, Tina, Troy, Micah, Adam, Kian and Caden.

Class of 1977


Cheryl Jackson-Fogarty, Class of 1977, was one of those rare athletes that played sports during all three seasons at Burlington High School playing Field Hockey, Basketball and Softball all 4 years winning Middlesex league all-star nominations in field hockey and Softball her senior year. Complementing the proud tradition of boy’s hockey in Burlington, she and a few friends started the Burlington Rag Dolls winning the National Championship in 1977. She continued her love of sports by playing softball for 2 years and field hockey for 4 years at Bridgewater State . Coaching followed, becoming an assistant coach for Bentley College’s field hockey team from 1981 to 1986. In 1985 Cheryl married Kevin Fogarty (also BHS Class of 77’). They live in Pepperell, MA. and have four children, Ryan 21, Brendan 19, Courtney 16, and Christian 12. She now continues her love of sports by routing for her children in hockey, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse across Massachusetts.

Class of 1985


Janet Testa-Fox, Class of 1985, played hockey, soccer and softball during her four years at Burlington High School. What really stands out in her sports “career” at Burlington High School however was the fact that she was a member of the hockey team, boys that is. Janet was the first female to ever play a boy’s varsity sport at BHS and that was quite a “ground breaking” accomplishment. She played her junior and senior years under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Coach Ed Cahoon. This was not a token pick. Janet was a very good hockey player and deserved to be on the team and certainly contributed.From there, Janet went to the softball diamond where she played another tough position, catcher. In her senior year, she batted 333 and knocked in 12 runs. In soccer, Janet as the goalie helped Burlington qualify for its first ever state tournament as a senior.Janet went on to shine at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she played Hall of Fame Hockey. She became the first women’s hockey player to score a career high, 50 goals and a total 98 points. A captain for two years, Janet was team MVP in 1988 and led RIT to its first ECAC Championship. She and her husband, Tom now own a hot tub business and live in Hollis, New Hampshire with their two children, Emily and Brandon.


Camille Sparks- Griffin, class of 1996, played four years of varsity Soccer, Basketball and Track under coach Bob Conceison, Coach Peter Breton, and Coach Joe Levasseur from (1992- 1996). As a senior Camille was selected as tri-captain of the soccer team and co captain of the Basketball team. She earned All Star distinction for all three sports and was named All Scholastic by the Boston Herald in Basketball. She helped her Basketball team capture the Middlesex league title two years in a row.As a collegian, Camille was recruited to play Division 1. soccer at the University of Hartford. She helped her team to win three league titles and to advance to the NCAA tournament three years in a row under head coach Mark Krikorian. She graduated cum laude, from the University of Hartford with a bachelors in Occupational therapy. Now married and living in Massachusetts, Camille is working as an Occupational Therapist and enjoys participating in outdoor sports with her husband and spending time with her family and friends.

Class of 1969


Ed Malatesta, Class of 1969, played three years Varsity Baseball, three years of Varsity Hockey and one year of Varsity Football.In Baseball, Ed was a co-captain his senior year under Hall of Fame Coach Jim Curtin’s first championship team. Ed was a League All-Star his senior year and was the leading hitter in the league with a .396 average.In Hockey, Ed was a two time League All-Star. He was the league leading scorer his senior year and played on three league championship teams and was a co-captain his senior year.Ed was recently honored by the Burlington Baseball Softball Association for over thirty years of dedication and valued participation in it’s program at it’s annual opening day ceremonies.

Class of 1978


Steve O’Brien, Class of 1978, played four years of football, basketball, and baseball, earning eight varsity letters. Steve was a member of the 1977 Middlesex League Championship Basketball and Baseball teams. As a senior he was named team MVP in Football, and Co-Captain in Basketball.Also as a senior, in football, Steve was named 1st team All Middlesex League Quarterback, and 1st team All Minute Man Regional Quarterback. As a junior he was recognized as one of Americas Top 250 High School Basketball players, published by the Annual 5 Star Basketball report. As a collegian, Steve played baseball at the University of Vermont.Steve graduated from the University of Vermont in 1983, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education / English & Political Science.Currently, Steve lives in southern California, Trabuco Canyon, with his wife Julie.

Class of 1982


Robert, class of 1982, was captain of the 1982 Baseball Team that won the Middlesex League Championship. He was a 3 year Varsity starter at first base and a two time Middlesex League All-Star First Team selection. A career .397 hitter, he twice batted over .400 and also as a sophomore set a then school record for RBIs. "Pag" also chipped in with some pitching help when needed, highlighted by a 1-0 shutout of Stoneham and had a career record of 2-1-1 with a 0.95 ERA with 33 Strike Outs in 22 innings. He was a two year varsity starter and also captain of the 1982 Basketball Team which although picked 5th in the preseason polling, finished 2nd behind eventual State Champions Wakefield. Although just 6'2", "Pag" played center for the Red Devils and averaged 10 points and 13 rebounds a game his Senior year and was an All-Middlesex League selection.He also played two years of Varsity golf as well.

In addition to all of his athletic achievements, Robert was an extraordinary Student Athlete and was the Valedictorian of the BHS Class of 1982 and won the BHS Student Athlete Award. He lives in Scituate MA with his wife Susan and three sons, Drew, Nick, and Jack.


Jim Pattison, class of 1951, played 3 years of Varsity Football for the Burlington Red Devils and was a starter for all three years. Jim co-captained the team in his senior year.As a senior, Jim was injured in the fifth game, but Coach Ned Murray stated “as my only assistant, Jim is almost as valuable off the field as on.” Jim’s college career at University of Massachusetts Amherst ended early with a broken leg. After college Jim entered the service and fought in the Korean War.Jim married Kathleen Cullen, a Woburn girl, in 1956. He and Kathleen settled in Woburn and raised six children.It was players like Jim that solidified athletics in the early days of Burlington, which makes it unfortunate we are a few years late in bestowing this honor to him.


Bob Vigneau was a member of the class of 1969. He played football, baseball, and hockey, but it was in hockey that he really left his mark. Bob played four years of varsity hockey under legendary coach Ed Cahoon and assistant Bob Verrier.As a senior, Bob was selected as co-captain of the hockey team and was also selected to the Merrimack Valley All – Star team. He played an important role in helping his team win two league titles.As a sophomore Bob was awarded the League’s Most Improved Player award, and by the time his high school career had ended, he was selected as the Merrimack Valley League’s Most Valuable Player.Bob is a life long resident of Burlington. He and wife Joanne are the parents of 4 children, Brenna, Robert, Ian, and Bevin, all graduates of Burlington High. Bob has beenemployed by the Raytheon Co. for the past 31 years.


Bill O’Donnell grew up in Newton, Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. degree in 1964 and an M.Ed. in 1978. Prior to joining the Burlington High School Athletic family, he taught and coached in the Canton and Medway Public Schools. Bill was the Head Football Coach from 1973 – 1980, joining Burlington High School in our first year in the Middlesex League. His philosophy of winning is a by product of commitment, execution and working toward a common goal. He turned` the Merrimac League cellar dwellers into Middlesex League contenders. During that time, player participation jumped from 30 student athletes to more than 160. He was voted Middlesex League Coach of the Year in 1980.Married to Priscilla for the last 44 years, they raised three daughters, two of whom are married and responsible for their six grandchildren. Now retired in Orlando, Florida, they enjoy golf, travel and spending time with their family. “It’s fun to be the grandparents that live next to Mickey Mouse.”


Kevin began his teaching career in Burlington in the winter of 1966, student teaching. He coached football for two years at Burlington High School (1967-1968) followed by being an assistant coach with his brother Ed at Manchester by the Sea. He taught English for 14 years at Francis Wyman School and 24 years at Burlington High School. While at BHS, Kevin was advisor for Collab (Literary Magazine) and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), as well as an EMT for the nurse. More recently, Kevin has worked for the Athletic Department monitoring or officiating football, basketball, hockey, and track. He has also announced baseball, softball, and lacrosse. Kevin has been MC at the Seniors Sports Banquet as well as the Hall of Fame for many years. Kevin’s hobbies have included being a Wilmington Call Firefighter for years, as well as a avid tennis player.Kevin is married to Gayle Sherwood a graduate of Burlington High School. They have two children, Heidi and Kevin, Jr. and grandson Owen.
