The ProblemGet the data
Location (GPS)Plow EngagedSalt Spreading rateRoad Temperature
Communicate the data back to BDPWReal time
Display the data in an easily readable format
![Page 4: Burlington Department of Public Works](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062315/568150da550346895dbefc39/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Existing Solution 1Tracks Location (GPS)Able to take other data inputs
BDPW already uses Cirus spreader controls
Solutions exist for integrating other plow sensors
Drive-by Download (Wi-Fi)Not real timeNo continuing service charges
ScalableMaintainable Long-term

Existing Solution 2Tracks Location (GPS)Sends data over digital radio
channelReal-timeService Charge to use radio
networkLimited capabilities for
integration with other sensorsScalable

Our Proposed Solution1. Cirus Controls Logger collects data from
sensors (GPS, road temp, salt spreading, plow)
2. Toughbook collects data from Cirus Logger3. Data sent to BDPW by Toughbook via
Verizon Wireless Broadband PC Card4. Data collected at BDPW servers, displayed
using ArcGIS for customer support / management
![Page 8: Burlington Department of Public Works](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062315/568150da550346895dbefc39/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Why this SolutionCollects Required Data
LocationSensors for Road temp, etc can be integrated
via Cirus LoggerReal Time
Coverage for data transmissionProvides Display for Driver
Current Location, Covered Route, Proposed Route
Can endure rugged operating environment

Disadvantages to Our SolutionMonthly service charge for wireless
broadband serviceHigh cost of Toughbook ~$5000
Display larger than needed
