BUNBURY CATHOLIC COLLEGE
STRATEGIC PLAN 2017 – 2020
He has told you what is good and what the Lord requires of you:
… to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.
(Micah 6:8)
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It is with pleasure that I present our Strategic Plan 2017 – 2020 which will guide the next stage of our journey. The
Bunbury Catholic College story, a Catholic college for young men and women from Year 7 to 12, is founded on the
traditions of the Sisters of Mercy and the Marist Brothers. In 1883 the Sisters of Mercy ventured from the Swan
River Colony to the coastal township of Bunbury to bring educational opportunities to the children of the South
West. So began the long history of our College. The Marist Brothers entered the scene in 1954 providing education
for boys in the region. In 1973 a decision was taken to amalgamate the Convent school with the Marist school to
form Bunbury Catholic College, a college that continues the traditions of these great women and men to now
provide a Catholic secondary education to over 1500 students from the greater Bunbury region.
In honouring this heritage, we aspire to bring the Marist and Mercy visions alive in all of our students. We challenge
our students to strive for personal excellence by developing their talents and working to achieve their best in all
endeavours and to do so whilst acting justly, loving tenderly and walking humbly with God.
Developing this plan has allowed us to reflect on our humble beginnings and the work of those who laid such
strong foundations as well as consider the opportunities to be grasped in the future. The College has recently
expanded in terms of enrolments and location and now provides a quality education across two campuses -
the Marist Campus in Bunbury and the Mercy Campus in Australind. It is anticipated that each campus will grow
to six streams and that, in the life of this strategic plan, will separate to two independent schools. It is an exciting
time for the College!
This Plan is organised around four key elements established by the Catholic Education Commission of Western
Australia (CECWA) – Learning, Engagement, Accountability and Discipleship (LEAD). It outlines the school’s strategic priorities and the outcomes against which future performance will be measured. The priorities in this
plan are focused on strengthening our fundamentals. They are intended to:
Advance the mission of the school
Build on our strengths
Be consistent with our core values
In formulating this Plan, the College Executive and College Board have undertaken a thorough and inclusive
process. Through this process we have assessed how well we are going as a college, identified emerging
challenges and discussed new trends and opportunities likely to be faced in the future.
We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with parents as we embark on this plan and continue our
tradition of providing an outstanding Catholic education to the children in the greater Bunbury region.
