REFLECTION

When you walk into Mass next Sunday, simply ask God in your heart ‘God, show me one way in this Mass that I can become a better version of myself this week?’ Then listen .

BIBLE STUDY

The Tuesday Morning Bible Study invites you to join us in a 20 part Bible Study featuring Jeff Cavins. Christ did not leave His Apostles alone - He sent the Holy Spirit to guide, instruct and equip them. Enrich and deepen your faith as you learn how the Apostles continued Christ’s mission on earth through the Power of the Holy Spirit. Join us for Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in The Maximilian Room beginning September 9, 2014 at 9:00 AM and continuing every Tuesday for 10 weeks. The second half of the program will begin in January. Cost for this 20 week program is $30. For more information or to register for the study, call Judy Armour at 610-793-2596 or via email: [email protected]. You may also register in the rectory.

BASICS OF THE FAITH

What does the Catholic Church believe? What does the Church teach? Where do we get these teachings? Are you comfortable discussing your faith with family and friends? Would you like to update or refresh your knowledge of the faith? Here at St. Max we have two ways for you to explore these questions. Join us on the first Sunday of each month at 8:45 to 10:15 am in the Maximilian room for coffee, tea, cake and a PowerPoint presentation on a chapter of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults (USCCA). The information in the USCCA is supplemented with other sources, including brief video segments. We’re currently studying the Ten Commandments. You’re welcome to attend any or all sessions. No prior knowledge or preparation is required.

Our next session is October 5, 2014. The topic will be the First Commandment.

You may also view narrated Power Points of previous sessions online at your convenience at 222.basicsofthefaith.org. There is a discussion forum for you to post questions or comments. For further information or to be placed on our email list, please contact Anne Chavez at [email protected].

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY

SEPTEMBER 21, 2014

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechet ical Sunday on September 21, 2014, and will focus on the theme "Teaching About God's Gift of Forgiveness." Those whom the community

has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Here at St. Max, we will be commissioning our catechists at the 9:00AM Mass on September 21st. Please join us as we celebrate those who form our children and teach them about God's gifts.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION ADORERS NEEDED!

Would you like get closer to Jesus? We have great opportunity every Tuesday to stop in and spend some quiet time with Him during Eucharistic Adoration when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar in a monstrance. We have a wonderful group of people who have each committed to being there for a particular hour between 9 am and 7 pm so Jesus is never left alone. Many others are able to come in for briefer visits. If you would like to participate in this important ministry, please let us know. We need to have two people committed to each hour. We have a particular need for the 1-2pm hour as our regular adorer has moved away. Hours still in need of a second person are 10-11,11-12, 12-1, 1-2, 5-6. We also need to compile a list of people who are willing to be called upon as substitutes when the regular adorers are unable to be there. To be placed on the sub list, please provide your name and contact information. Please contact Anne Chavez at [email protected] or 610-793-2154, or call the rectory to volunteer.

“The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship. Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration and in contemplation that is full of faith and ready to make reparation for the great faults and crimes of the world. May our adoration never cease.”(Pope John Paul II, Dominicae Cenae, February 1980)

YOUR VOTE COUNTS! Archbishop Chaput has said “One of the duties of Catholic discipleship is the exercise of mature, faithful citizenship.” In an effort to promote their call to faithful citizenship, the Bishops of Pennsylvania have

once again authorized a parish-based, nonpartisan voter registration effort to occur in parishes. At St. Maximilian Kolbe, this effort will be led by the Knights of Columbus and will take place after all Masses the weekend of September 27th and 28th. The Knights of Columbus have partnered with the Pennsylvania Catholic conference to execute this nonpartisan registration drive and to encourage all Catholic citizens to exercise their right to vote and thereby fulfill their civic duty and contribute to the civic life of their country and their communities.

• A citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next primary, special, municipal or general election.

• A resident of PA and the election in which

CENTERING PRAYERGROUP RESUMING The Centering Prayer group will resume its meetings in the Eucharistic Chapel on Friday, September 12th after the Rosary at 8:50 AM. All are welcome. Centering Prayer is a form of contemplative prayer in which we sit quietly in the Lord’s presence, allowing ourselves to be aware and open to the divine indwelling of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit at the core of our beings. If you would like to join us or even just try this form of prayer, you are most welcome. If you are curious or have questions, call Pat Krause at 610-793-2968. If daytime meetings are not good for you, you can be informed of other Centering groups meeting in the evening or on Saturdays.
