He touched on the prevalence of information and identity theft, internet security required for online financial transactions and using a password manager. The editor was very impressed with Eric’s skill in using his ipad to send information to the data projector by wireless. Alan was very impressed with Eric’s ability to pull up an article via google on a recently deceased singer, and commented “I will just have to get one of those things”. Eric gave a very knowledgeable and competent talk about computers. He mentioned the prevalence of computers in society today – in lap tops, PC’s, ipads, phones, watches, GPS units and in much of our household electrical appliances. Computers are a tool to make life easier for us, but there are risks involved which need to be addressed, Eric discussed risk mitigation – the importance of backing up data, internet security and passwords, as well as

storage of files and data in separate storage devices, aside from the computer. He touched on the prevalence of information and identity theft, internet security required for online financial transactions and using a ‘password manager’. The editor was very impressed with Eric’s skill in using his ipad to send information to the data projector by wireless. Alan was very impressed with Eric’s ability to pull up an article via google on a recently deceased singer, and commented “I will just have to get one of those things”. Chairman Wally thanked Eric for his talk and presented him with a bottle of the President’s muscat.

President Gary and DG Bernie Bott congratulate Eric on the launch of the

new Corowa Wahgunyah Mixed Probus Club.

News of Exchange Student Vera Vera has moved from hosts Gary and Chris to the home of Brydee Lavis – our outbound exchange for 2018. The Lavis family have driven up to the Gold Coast for a holiday – packed a bit like sardines in their car!!

During the previous week Graham and Margaret took Vera to Mt Pilot and the aboriginal rock paintings at the base. One highlight was spotting two brolgas at a local pondage, as well as admiring all the yellow wattle in the Chiltern Forest and the yellow canola in nearby paddocks.

Corowa Wahgunyah Mixed Probus Club On Tuesday morning the new Probus Club was launched in the presence of many interested folk. Representing Rotary, DG Bernie Bott joined with President Gary in congratulating Eric, the founding President. At our Club meeting Rtn Bill Bott was very complimentary of the function and expressed his congratulations on a job well done. The new Probus Club has started with about 35 members.

Announcements

1. On to Conference: Rtn Graham mentioned that the early bird booking for

Conference ends 30th September. He also outlined two of the keynote speakers will be The Hon Tim Fischer – who needs no introduction – and Dr Priscilla Rogers - a Health care Manager at IBM Research. She was dux of Yarrawonga HS and a Rotary Exchange student in Germany. Gary would like the members to seriously consider attendance and he would love to see at least 10 couples registered.

2. Club Dinner Evening at Conference: Our Corowa Rotary Club will enjoy the Friday evening dinner on March 23rd, but the venue is proposed to be D’Amicos in Corowa.

3. Albury Rotary Club’s 90th Birthday Celebration: Saturday 4th November 4. Albury Race Meeting: to be held at Corowa tomorrow Friday 15th. Neil

sufficient billets, with several Rotary members doubling the number of boys they will host. Hosts will meet their billets at 4 pm at the back of the Odd Fellows Hall, return them for the concert that night and then be back in the morning by 9.00 am complete with cut lunches.

6. DIK Mexican Night: Thursday 12th October 6.30 for 7.00 at the home of Norm O – 170 Clarke St Howlong. This will be a TRANSFER MEETING and Partners are most certainly invited.
