Knowing for SureTeaching #2 in Series:

I. Connected to ChristA. Once married, always married … if you stay married.B. Once saved, always saved … if you stay saved.

II. Saved in Christ

A. (John 3:16) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.B. (John 5:24) Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has

eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.C. (John 10:28) I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out

of my hand.D. (1 John 5:13) I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that

you may know that you have eternal life.E. (Romans 10:13) Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.F. (1 John 5:11-13) God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son

has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

G. (Ephesians 2:8-9) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

III. Covered by ChristA. (Romans 8:34) Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more

than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”B. (1 John 2:1) My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does

sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.C. (John 17:3) Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ,

whom you have sent.

“The only way to know you are saved is to know Jesus Christ” (John 17:3, KHV).

IV. Covenant with Christ

Worship Notes:Participants: Dr. Karl Haffner, our senior pastor, continues the fall sermon series, KasperHaughton, our pastor for youth and children’s ministries, hosts today’s worship and tells the Children’s Story.Colette Carr, Lindsey Haffner and Randy Daniel present the drama that replaces today’s scripture lesson.Zachary Juniper, a recent theology graduate of Andrews University, gives the Prayers of the People. JerryTaylor, our minister for worship and music, is the organist/choir director for today’s service.

Members of the String Ensemble include: Elizabeth Wareham, Nirmala Abraham, Grant Wareham.Today’s Vocal Octet: Greta Shull, Debbie Daniel, Jane Thurman, Judy Barnhart, Weldon Gan,Joshua Wheeker, Marshall Wareham, Steve Babienco.

As we gather for worship we hear two of the Epistle (Church) Sonatas composed in 1772 by Mozart to beplayed in the worship service between the readings of the Old and New Testament. They were originallyplayed by the "Salzburg Church Quartet" which included two violins, cello and organ (no violas). Sonata No.4 written for just two violins will be played as today’s postlude.

was composed by Edwin Barns for the 1886 Hymns and Tunes hymnal. There isevidence that Edwin Barnes traded Hart Danks this hymn for Danks setting of .Both hymns were published in Hymns and Tunes, and are almost exclusively only in Seventh-day Adventisthymnals.

(Hymn No. 7) is a Fanny Crosby hymn coupled with a tune by Hart Danks, achoir director in Chicago in the late 1800’s. Crosby’s prolific output of hymns was controlled by Bigelow andMain in Chicago. It is a mystery how Edson White obtained the copyright to this one hymn, which is consideredby many to be one of Fanny Crosby’s best. It was first published in the SDA and everyAdventist hymnal since. Unfortunately, since it has been an almost exclusive possession of Seventh-dayAdventists, no other denomination knows of this hymn.

with Lindsey Haffner, Randy Daniel and Colette Carr is directed by Colette Carrand is used to introduce the theme of today’s service.

comes from Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and was composedfor eight individual voices, each with their own notes representing eight angels of hope.

(Hymn No. 462) is one of the most beloved hymns of all time. The lyrics were writtenin 1873 by blind hymn writer Fanny J. Crosby to the music written in 1873 by her friend Phoebe P. Knapp.Crosby was visiting Knapp as the Knapp home was having a large pipe organ installed. The organ wasincomplete, so Mrs. Knapp, using the piano, played a new melody she had just composed. When Knapp askedCrosby, "What do you think the tune says?" Crosby replied, "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine…”

Next Sabbath, November 2: Pastor Karl Haffner will conclude our sermon series,
