29th Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus Asks a Question

Jer 31:7-9 Jeremiah delivers God’s promise of res-

toration to Israel. Psalm 126 The Lord has done great things for us. Heb 5:1-6 Jesus Christ is the perfect high priest

uniting God and humans. Mark 10:46-52 The healing of blind Bartimaeus.

Genesis opens: “In the begin-ning, when God created the heav-ens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland and darkness covered the abyss.” Those words describe the formless blackness of the world of Bartimaeus, the blind man who believed that Jesus

could give him sight. Vision is impossible in darkness, but when there is light, a miracle begins. Photons find their way through the eyes and project themselves onto the retina. The image is projected on the back wall of the eye, making nerve receptors pulse. Those puls-es travel through the optic nerve, through passage-ways to the brain. And there, the brain reassembles the pulses and creates the image inside our head. The image is all in our mind, like dreams. But it all begins with light. Blind Bartimaeus went to that Light to beg, “Master, I want to see.” Immedi-ately he received his sight. -- Deacon Dick Folger

Next Week’s Readings… Rev 7:2-4, 9-14 A vision of God’s faithful people Psalm 24 Lord, we are the people who long for you. 1 John 3:1-3 What we shall be has not yet been re-vealed. Matt 5:1-12a Jesus teaches the Beatitudes.
