28th Sunday in Ordinary Time With God, All Is Possible

Wis 7:7-12 Wisdom is more valuable than anything. Psalm 90 Fill us with your love, O Lord. Heb 4:12-13 The word of God is sharper than any

two-edged sword. Mark 10:17-30 Requirements for entering the king-

dom of God In recent years, Texas Hold-Em has become a television spectator sport. The World Series of Poker established a new $1 million buy-in event, which created the biggest winner in poker history. In 2012, Anto-nio Esfandieri won $18,346,000. If he banked it,

he could take out $1000 a day for over 50 years be-fore he ran out. When players are confident that they have the winning hand of cards, they can bet all of their chips. The move, called “going all-in,” forces all oth-er players to match the bet or fold their cards. Jesus told the man who wanted eternal life that he would first have to go all-in by selling everything and giving the proceeds to the poor. Unable to do so, the man folded his cards and left the game. -- Deacon Dick Folger

Next Week’s Readings…

Isa 53:1-11 The servant gives his life for others. Psalm 33 Lord, let your mercy be on us. Heb 4:14-16 Jesus shares in our suffering. Mark 10:35-45 Jesus’ followers must be servants.

Let’s make Canada a climate leader! In December, world leaders will be meeting in Paris at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) to negotiate a binding and universal agreement on the world’s climate. For this agree-ment to be effective at avoiding future climate-related disasters, the global temperature can’t rise more than 2 C over the coming years. In order to achieve this, however, countries like Canada will need to transition to renewable energies, and move away from fossil fuels. Next week you will be asked to sign a Development and Peace Action Card, to be handed in after Mass. We are asking the

Prime Minister to sign on to an agreement at COP21 that sets the target to keep the rise in tem-perature below 2 C and to be a leader in achieving that target. On the card, you can also share with the Prime Minister your own personal action to help re-duce climate change. The survival of our planet and its people is at stake! "The Value of Life" Speaker's Workshop, being offered by St. Catharines Right to Life, is coming up Saturday, October 24, 2015, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at St. Alfred's Parish Hall, 272 Vine St., St. Cath-arines. Lunch and refreshments provided. Learn how to speak for life and brush up on the life is-sues. Everyone welcome. There is no fee. For more information and to register, call 905-684-7505 or email [email protected] .

“Thank You” for remembering the poor box!
