STUDY

The Monday night Bible Study group will be studying a Biblical Walk through the Mass starting April 25. Based on the revised translation of the Mass, this five-part program takes participants on an exciting tour of the Liturgy as it explores the biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. See, perhaps for the first time, why we say what we say and do what we do every week at Mass. The words and gestures will be seen in a new light, giving new life to the liturgical experience. Call the rectory at 610-399-6936 or contact Lidia Manieri at [email protected] to register. Cost is $20.00. Please register by April 11.

CATHOLIC COMMUNITIES ON CAMPUS There are 11 Catholic colleges and universities within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, but there are thousands of Catholic students at other area schools as well. That’s why the regions six Newman Centers are so important and why starting this year, your donations to the Catholic Charities Appeal will help support them. A Newman Center is a place for Catholic students to be Catholic. It is the Catholic Community on campus. Take the Newman Center at Temple University, for example. Temple may have the largest Catholic student population of any school within the geography of the Archdiocese. Its Newman Center is filled with young people striving to grow in their faith, searching for truth and working to stay connected to their Catholic faith and culture. At Temple, the Newman Center offers Mass every day, and Sunday Mass typically draws about 200 students. There are as many as 25 Bible studies led by FOCUS missionaries and students. There are also retreats and community service events. But a college Newman Center is not all spirituality. It is also a social hub for like-minded people. Describing what the Temple Newman Center does, Erin Shay, a sophomore from St. Helena’s Parish in Blue Bell, mentioned spaghetti dinners, open mic nights, game nights and other social events that promote fellowship. The Newman Centers on campuses are, in many ways, microcosms of the future of the Church. These young Catholics are not only trying to nurture their own faith in a secular environment, they are also working to be examples of the Catholic Faith in the modern world. With your support, they can do both.
