    Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We have all seen the shocking images of devasta-

on in the wake of the typhoon which struck the

Philippine Islands last weekend. Between 2000-

    2500 men, women and children have been killed;

tens of thousands are homeless and without drink-

ing water and food. The situaon is crical for them

unless they get immediate help. The first country to rush to the aid of the people

of the Philippines was the United States of Ameri-

ca. The Conference of Catholic Bishops has ap-

pealed for assistance to Catholic Relief Services

which is working on the ground in the worst hit are-

as of the country. We can be proud of both our Gov-

ernment and the Relief Services for their generosity

    and compassion.

I am asking for a second collecon this weekend to

assist the people who are in dire need in the Philip-

pines right now. I am asking us all to sacrifice for

them. That children and young people in the parish

community might give up some pocket-money, or

    the cost of that trip to the movies you had planned;

adults could perhaps give the price of dinner out in a

restaurant or coffee at Starbucks. All of us might do

without something this week so that someone else

in another part of the world might have the vital ne-

    cessies to simply live.

I know you will all be generous to this cry for

help. I thank you for your goodness to our belovedFilipino sisters and brothers. Please pray for them

and for a generous response from the people of the

whole world to this awful tragedy.

    God bless you.

    Fr. Adrian Acng Pastor

whatever you did for one of these least brothers

of mine, you did for me. Mahew 25:40

    Esmados Hermanos y Hermanas,

    plemente vivir.

bondadosos hacia nuestros hermanos y hermanas

filipinos.

    Padre Adrin - Prroco Interino

San Mateo 25:40

    FR. ADRIANS CORNER

The Assembly for the Small Chrisan CommuniesatSan Luis Rey Parish will take place on Friday 22 and Satur-

day 23 November. Details, mes, etc., have been posted.

This promises to be a wonderful me of renewal and re-

freshment for all who have been involved in the SCCs

over many years at San Luis Rey. Whether you are amember of the SCCs or an inquiring potenal new mem-

ber who wishes to aend, please fill out your green card

and return it to the Parish Office if you have not already

done so. This will indicate to us that you are aending

and that you will be having breakfast and lunch (or not).

    Thank you for doing this.

Fr. Michael Harvey, OFM from Mission Santa Barbara

will be our facilitator for the SCC Assembly on Saturday

and Fr. Ignacio Muro, OFM from Tijuana our keynote

speaker on Friday night. Fr. Ignacio is fluent in both

Spanish and English. Tremendous preparaon has gone

into the organizing of this Assembly and I want to pay

tribute to Marta Werner and her team of planners who

have done mighty work behind the scenes to bring this

gathering about. Thank you one and all!

The new Blessed Sacrament Chapel will be takingshape soon. Lupe Rios, Linda Causee and Jenny Flynn

have designed a beauful and prayerful space in the Ser-

ra Center. The Blessed Sacrament will be in this chapel

on Saturdays and Sundays for private prayer and for the

repose of the Sacrament aer Masses. Thank you to Lu-

pe, Linda and Jenny for their experse and to Lee Bick-

ford who enabled the good work to happen!

Monthly Confirmaon Workshops are happening atthe Parish and not at the Mission, as in the past two

years. The Mission has become crowded with both the

Franciscan School of Theology and weekend retreats.

Thank you to MaFranklin and his sterling team for mak-

ing the adjustment and working so well with our young

people. The Confirmaon Program is designed to give

young people an experience of Jesus and of the commu-

nity of faith which is the Church. We certainly want our

young men and women to learn about their faith but also

to experience what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

The Sacrament of Confirmaon is not, as Bishop Cirilo

reminded us last year, a graduaon but a coming clos-

er to the Lord whom we know and love and whose disci-

ple we want to be. We work both on the academic com-

ponent and on the experienal aspect in our Confirma-

on preparaon. In the Franciscan tradion we call it

addressing The head and the heart.

Our Parish Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisiseems to bearacng lots of interest. The final cost will be available

by the end of November when the airlines release their

figures for 2014. A brochure will be made available then

and the process of pung our pilgrimage together will

begin in earnest. For informaon and quesons please

contact Wendy Brophy, Pilgrimage Organizer, at wbro-

    [email protected] or 858-756-4174 x1702.

A pilgrimage is an occasion where one must knock onthe Lords heart for the many needs that we have, Pope

Francistold a group of pilgrims from Liguria on Saturday.

And the Lord listens. He always listens.

While it is beauful to be at St. Peters in Rome and to

parcipate in the Mass, the focus of pilgrimage must

always be the Lord, to encounter him and to grow in

faith. It is a spiritual encounter that helps us to go

forward in the journey of life, he said. Each one of you

has something on your heart: a desire, a problem, a

difficulty, something to say to the Lord, he connued.

Benefit from these days, here, to find a soluon to thesethings and to grow closer to the Lord. The Lord always

waits for you, for all of us. The Lord does not re in

waing for us; he always waits for us. While the Lord

may not always offer the soluon for which we ask in

prayer, the Pope said, he always listens.

May the week ahead be a blessed one for you!

    Fr. Adrian

Aparten la fecha! TODOS estn invitados a la

ASEMBLEA GENERAL 2013de las PEQUEAS COMUNIDADES CRISTIANAS

    Empecemos De Nuevo (San Francisco)

sala a la Oficina Parroquial si an no lo has hecho.

Gracias a Lupe, a Linda y

Gracias a Ma

guir a Jess.

    Connuacin

Nuestro Peregrinaje a Roma y Ass parece estar atrayendo

mucho inters.

Para ms in-

grinacin.
