OFFICE OF THE BISHOP
April 11, 2014
My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
There are many things that can discourage us and one of the greatest is broken promises. In the great Easter Marian Hymn Regina Caeli, we find the verse Resurrexir sicul dixil, alleluia which translates, He has risen as he said, alleluia. Jesus has fulfilled His promise to us! This is the joy of Easter as we contemplate the fact that all of us share in that same promise. \Ve too shall rise with Jesus and triumph over sin and death. Our hope is found in Jesus Christ and in the fact that He never breaks His promise. Alleluia!
I wish to take this oppmtunity to wish you a very joyous Easter. May our Risen Lord grant you His peace and abundant blessings.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerard Bergie, D.D.

The Knights of Columbus first Ham Roll for St. Helen's has been a great success. We had a fun filled,
relaxing, entertaining evening with an awesome crowd who cheered for all of the winners throughout the
night. Thank you to the Catholic Women's League for their tireless efforts to help us out where needed.
To all who graciously pitched in your time and expertise to ensure things ran smoothly, know that you
are appreciated. For all of those who helped to sell or purchase tickets for the half and half draw, give
yourselves a pat on the back. Nancy Elia took home the grand prize of $1330 from those valiant efforts.

Sunday April 20 ~ Easter Sunday Scripture that everyone who believes in him will receive
forgiveness of sins through his name. (Acts 10:43)
The stone which the builders rejected has be-come the cornerstone. (Psalm 118:22)
For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3)
Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. (John 20:8)
Reflection What would you change in your life? What
would you change in the world?
Can you turn it over to Jesus who rises above
pain and suffering?
Will you follow the disciple into the tomb and be
redeemed?
The dedication to the suffering Christ is contrary to our sensibilities today; it seems unhealthy and dis-tasteful. We think of it as a medieval devotion that is unsuitable for our lives. Yet Francis never limited the meaning of the cross to suffering. The Cross represents a vision of the world redeemed; in other words we enter into Christ’s suffering so we can realize the power of resurrection, particularly in a
wounded world through which Christ still suffers.1 1Simsic, Wayne, Living the Wisdom of St Francis, Paulist Press:
