BULLETIN
TRAINING FOR CHRISTIAN SERVICE SINCE 1959
SPRING 2019
WE’D LIKE YOU TO MEET IYENE IMEH “My name is Iyene E. Emeh, a third-year student of West Nigeria Christian College and School of Biblical Studies, Abeokuta, Ogun
state, Nigeria. I am at WNCC to acquire qualitative and sound education to prepare me for ministry. This is necessary as I hope to
minister to the church in the 21st century with the aim to motivate and encourage the youth to become vessel
of honor in the kingdom of Christ. This cannot be achieved unless I am adequately equipped through quality
training from a reputable Bible College like WNCC.
My main focus is on young people to bring them to Christ and nurture them to maturity through teaching,
preaching, and living an exemplary Christian lifestyle. This I hope to achieve through congregational, urban
or itinerant ministry.
WNCC is the place to be for quality
Christian education and ministerial training. Its state-of-the-art ICT
Centre is a great tool in exposing students to invaluable online
resources. Its library is the best religion library our brotherhood can
offer across South Western Nigeria. WNCC’s hybrid of Bible,
Religion and Ministry curriculum driven by information technology,
a conducive learning environment and qualified faculty made it a
choice center of excellence in Christian education. WNCC ethical
values are driven by ITEDA; an acronym for Integrity, Team Work,
Excellence, Discipline and Accountability. These moral and ethical
values are held in high esteem and enforced by all members of the
community. I am so blessed to be here.”
We are happy to have you at WNCC studying God’s Word!

African Violet Dinner a Success!
At our recent African Violet Dinner on April 4, 2019, the Lord
blessed the work in Nigeria (and beyond). Edet Udofia, an
ACSF board member, spoke of the global impact of the work
of African Christian Schools and the importance of
continuing the work. There were multiple congregations
represented at the dinner.

WOMEN FOR NCBC HOLD GOSPEL MEETING
The women for NCBC consist of Christian Ladies from Churches of Christ
in Abak who are very supportive of the programs and projects of the Nigerian Christian Bible College, Ukpom. Some years back they donated 150 plastic chairs to the College and also helped to roof the second part
of the college chapel. Every year during the Annual Bible Lectureship, they hire five hundred chairs to be used for the teaming lectureship
participants.
On the 16th March, 2019, they decided to host their monthly women Gospel meeting at NCBC. The theme was “Diligent Services to God.” Two keynote speeches were delivered. There were also some special
health lectures. During the moment with Jesus, special prayers were said for ACSF, NCBC and mission work in Nigeria. This ladies’ forum
attracted over 500 sisters from fifty congregations in Abak and environs. They also raised some funds to assist needy brethren in the brotherhood.
Evangelism Outreach Programs at WNCC
Did you know that the number of both members and number of congregations of the Churches of Christ in Nigeria
have DOUBLED every DECADE since the 1950’s? The Lord has used African Christian Schools as part of that process.
The West Nigeria Christian College has always had a strong emphasis upon evangelism. It is so important that the
students also be trained in the many aspects of evangelism in Nigeria.
WNCC conducts regular evangelistic campaigns using door-to-door evangelism and open-air preaching in many area
villages. However, WNCC does not stop there! There is also a vibrant hospital ministry at the Federal Medical Center
in Abeokuta and also the State Hospital in Ilaiye. Students are
also used in prison ministry at the Ibara prison. Students
share soap – and the Gospel!
WNCC also conducts “educational ministries” in three local
villages. They teach the Bible as well as help with school work.
Can you help us see that these program continue?
The ACSF Bulletin is published quarterly by African Christian Schools
Foundation, a Church of Christ 501 c(3) non-profit ministry which
began in 1959 and is overseen by faithful members of the Churches
of Christ throughout the United States of America.

“That Pretty Well Sums Up the Feelings that We Had.”
We came to love the Nigerian people, especially the young preachers we had a part in training, and the older preachers as well. Our
time there was some of the most satisfying years that we have had. The Nigerians are still very much in our hearts.
We, Dee and I, Glenda (age 7) and Jeff (18 months old), arrived in Jos, the capital
of Northern Nigeria, at 2am on January 1, 1959. From there, we flew to Port
Harcourt, where we were met by the missionaries who were then on the field.
They took us to the campus of the Ukpom Bible College (now called the Nigerian
Christian Bible College).
The first morning after we arrived, I looked out the window and saw Nigerian
young men gathering around Eugene Peden on the other side of the campus. I
thought, “What have I gotten myself into?” It did not take long to get adjusted
to the work and culture and involved in all the activities of the Bible College. All
through five years there, I taught four Bible classes – from 8am till noon –
Monday through Friday and preached many afternoons and evenings.
Dee ministered to many who came each afternoon with minor sicknesses – open
sores, cuts, and bruises. Since there were no American style schools, Dee
homeschooled Glenda, and occasionally, another missionary child, using the
correspondence courses from Maryland. Until Jeff was ready for kindergarten, he
was cared for by a Nigerian boy.
Eugene Peden had oversight of 10 public schools. When he had concluded his
work in Nigeria, those schools “became my schools” until one came with the
express mission of overseeing the schools – that was John & Marilyn
Featherstone.
During the five years,
we put down some deep roots with these gentle and peaceful people. We
were not far into our flight home, when Jeff learned that he would not see
his special friend, Udom Henry, ever again, and he cried. That pretty well
sums up the feelings we all had.” By Glenn Martin
EDITOR’S NOTE: THIS ARTICLE BY GLENN MARTIN EXPRESSES THE GREAT
WORK MISSIONARIES HAVE DONE IN NIGERIA. THE MARTINS RECENTLY
WENT TO THEIR ETERNAL REWARD. OF COURSE, THE GREAT COMMISSION
IS STILL IN FORCE AND TEACHERS, LIKE THE MARTINS, ARE STILL NEEDED IN
THE FIELD. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS WORKING IN THE FIELD OF
NIGERIA, LET US KNOW.

Did you know…?
Did you know that the churches of Christ in Nigeria
are growing at an unprecedented rate?? The need
for training preachers in their own country and
culture has never been more evident! We need
monthly partners to help us at $100 each month to
see the schools and work continue. Can you help us
meet some of our urgent needs? Let us know! Call

CHAD WAGNER COMPLETES TRIP TO NIGERIA
In mid-January, Chad Wagner, ACSF President, made a successful
trip to Nigeria visiting both WNCC and NCBC. While at WNCC, he
joined an evangelistic campaign in Kajola where 12 were
baptized. At NCBC, he visited the Mfon Abasi Orphanage, a local
secondary school, and worked with students and staff on
campus. Before leaving Nigeria in February, he attended the
World Bible School “Great Workshop” in Imo State at the Mbaise
Christian Clinic. There were over 700 evangelists from Nigeria
and Cameroon!
