Guadeloupe starts winning in Group L
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 8, 2013. - Guadeloupe is off to a winning start at the NORCECA second round Group L qualifier to the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship, with victory over Aruba 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-14). Guadeloupe outscored Aruba with a huge advantage in all categories, in spikes by 25-7, in blocks by 9-4 and in serves by 10-1. Top scorers of the match were Isabelle Acina with 12 points, including 3 service points, for the
winning side and Juleisy Castillo with 4 points for Aruba. “Having a win from the beginning is very important and we are happy with the good result shown so quickly. This was the first time for us playing against Aruba and we didn’t know what to expect” said Isabelle Acina, Guadeloupe’s captain. On the other hand, Jackie Toussaint said to understand her team’s nervousness “our players are young and this is only our second international tournament. We’ll analyze our mistakes for the next match.” Jean-Louis, Head Coach of Guadeloupe indicated “Aruba has a lot of potential and I know they will improve. I really want to congratulate my team because we almost didn’t make it to the tournament and we present only nine players, their effort paid off. This is only the beginning and we must face each match point by point.” Aruba’s Coach, Igmar Ogenia said “I agree with Jackie but I want to add that Guadeloupe is a much more experienced squad then ours. The girls weren’t able to get in the rhythm of the match as our passing was deficient and I hope things can change for us.”

CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 8 de junio de 2013.- Guadalupe arrancó con victoria la segunda ronda NORCECA Grupo L eliminatoria al Campeonato Mundial Femenino FIVB 2014, con triunfo sobre Aruba 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-14). Guadalupe superó a Aruba con una enorme ventaja en todas las categorías, en ataque por 25-7, en bloqueo por 9-4 y en servicios por 10-1.
Las máximas anotadoras fueron por las ganadoras, Isabelle Acina con 12 puntos, incluyendo 3 puntos de servicio, y Juleisy Castillo con 4 puntos por Aruba. “Tener un triunfo al inicio es muy importante y estamos contentas por el buen resultado que se mostró de forma rápida. Esta fue la primera vez en que nos enfrentamos a Aruba y no sabíamos qué esperar” dijo Isabelle Acina, capitana de Guadalupe. Por el otro lado, Jackie Toussaint dijo que comprendía el nerviosismo de su equipo “nuestras jugadoras son muy jóvenes y esta es tan solo nuestra segunda vez en un torneo internacional. Guatemala beats St. Kitts & Nevis in straight sets
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 8, 2013. - Guatemala defeated St. Kitts & Nevis in straight sets 25-13, 25-14 and 25-10 in their debut on Saturday at the NORCECA second-round Group L tournament of the 2014 Women’s FIVB World Championship at Alfonso Gordillo Gymnasium. Guatemala’s first outing was led by Rut Gomez with 20 points; Diana Arias contributed with 11 and Blanca Ocaña with 10. The hosts took control of the match from start to
finish with advantages of 6-2 in blocking and 9-0 in aces. Diana Arias, Captain of Guatemala said “our strongest attributes are the confidence that each player has in one another and that they’ll do their job and mainly the technical staff we have behind us”. St. Kitts’ captain, Antoinette Henry indicated “I’m sure we’ll bring our game to the court as soon as we get adjusted and we’re excited to be here. As every team here, this is the first time we face each other.” “I am honored to be the coach of Guatemala’s senior team, this is a very talented group” expressed David Aldana, who also added “our opponent showed power as we expected”. Steadroy “Star” Collins, Coach of St. Kitts & Nevis, spoke about the long trip his team had “we arrived at midnight and we didn’t perform in our best condition. There are two matches still ahead and we’re motivated to reach the final match”.

CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 8 de junio de 2013.- Guatemala derrotó a St. Kitts & Nevis en sets seguidos 25-13, 25-14 y 25-10 en su debut el sábado en la segunda ronda NORCECA Grupo L clasificatoria al Campeonato Mundial Femenino FIVB 2014 en en el Gimnasio Alfonso Gordillo.
La primera intervención de Guatemala fue encabezada por Rut Gómez con 20 puntos; Diana Arias contribuyó con 11 y Blanca Ocaña con 10.
Las anfitrionas tomaron control del juego de principio a fin con ventaja de 6-2 en el bloqueo y de 9-0 en puntos de servicio.
Diana Arias, capitana de Guatemala dijo “nuestras mayores fortalezas son la confianza de cada una hará bien su trabajo y principalmente el respaldo del cuerpo técnico con el que contamos”.
La capitana de St. Kitts, Antoinette Henry indicó “estoy segura que podremos hacer nuestro juego en cuanto nos adaptemos y nos emociona estar acá. Como todos los equipos acá, esta es la primera vez en que nos enfrentamos.”
“Me siento honrado de dirigir la selección mayor de Guatemala, este es un grupo muy talentoso” expresó David Aldana, quien agregó “nuestro rival mostró potencia como esperábamos”.

First win for St. Kitts & Nevis in Group L
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 8, 2013. – St. Kitts & Nevis beat Aruba by 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-13) for their first win in the NORCECA second-round Group L tournament a qualification event to the 2014 Women’s FIVB World Championship.
With two outings St. Kitts & Nevis sustain a 1-1 win-loss mark while Aruba remains winless.
After their loss to Guatemala earlier on Saturday, St. Kitts’ performance was more solid taking over
Aruba in 59 minutes with advantage in spikes by 35-14 and 4-1 in aces. Aruba was better in the blocking category by one point (6-5).
With 15 tallies each, Shanicia Dyer and Brenda Allen were the best scorers for St. Kitts & Nevis. Jackie Toussaint led Aruba with 10 points.
Antoinette Henry for St. Kitts & Nevis was content saying “we played better as we’re adjusting to Guatemala’s atmosphere and environment; I hope tomorrow we’ll improve more”.
“Our lack of communication has been crucial as well as our mistakes in critical moments. I congratulate St. Kitts & Nevis for a job well done” said Jackie Toussaint.
“The urgency to win this match helped the girl’s improvement from this morning. Aruba is a promising team” expressed Steadroy “Star” Collins.
Igmar Ogenia, Aruba’s coach indicated “after what I saw of St. Kitts’ previous match, they had more unity while we miss that, congratulations to them. This is a great experience for us and we’ll fight Guatemala hard tomorrow”.

Con dos encuentros, St. Kitts & Nevis sostiene una marca de 1-1 en juegos ganados, en tanto que Aruba permanece sin triunfos.
Luego de la derrota ante Guatemala en la primera jornada del sábado, el desempeño de St. Kitts fue
más sólido pudiendo imponerse en 59 minutos sobre Aruba, con ventaja en el ataque por 35-14 y 4-1 en puntos de servicio. Aruba fue mejor en la categoría de bloqueo solo por un punto (6-5).

Guatemala fights hard to claim second victory
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 8, 2013. - Guatemala had to fight hard to earn their second victory defeating Guadeloupe 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-15) in the closing match on Saturday at the NORCECA second-round Group L tournament.
Guadeloupe attacked in every way possible with superiority in blocking by 10-4, but the home girls were able to take control with advantage in spikes 41-24 to remain undefeated and with
a 2-0 win-loss record they book their ticket to next year’s NORCECA third- round tournament.
Rut Gomez was Guatemala’s top scorer with 19 points and Acina Isabelle was Guadeloupe’s best with 11 points.
Guatemala meets Aruba on Sunday morning while Guadeloupe faces St. Kitts & Nevis to complete the preliminary phase of the tournament.
“Their taller blocks hurt us, but we knew how to counterattack with a better strategy, playing united and following our coaches’ instructions. I believe we’ll meet again in the final match” said Diana Arias, Guatemala’s captain.
Isabelle Acina was a little emotional for their loss “it’s hard lose and after having two spectacular sets it’s odd. Guatemala pushed hard and we weren’t able to keep it up in the third set with many faults, but this isn’t finished yet”.
David Aldana, Guatemala’s coach said “we were surprised by Guadeloupe as we saw them a play differently against Aruba. After the substitution of Blanca Recinos due to a minor injury, Andrea Diaz led our victory in the second set. Our strong serves made them lose control. ”
Jean-Louis first wanted to thanks NORCECA for organizing these tournaments, “without their support we wouldn’t be able to be here”. He also congratulated Guatemala and spoke about his team “my players were afraid to lose in the third set, but there must be a loser and a winner. Guatemala’s served very well making it difficult for us to play.”
Guatemala batalla fuerte para reclamar segunda victoria
CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 8 de junio de 2013.- Guatemala tuvo que batallar fuertemente para obtener su segunda victoria derrotando a Guadalupe 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-15) en el juego de cierre del sábado en el torneo de la segunda ronda NORCECA Grupo L.
Guadalupe atacó de todas las formas posibles con superioridad en el bloqueo por 10-4, pero el equipo de casa pudo tomar control con ventaja en el ataque 41-24 para permanecer
invicto y con record de 2-0 en juegos ganados sella su boleto a la tercera ronda NORCECA del próximo año.
Rut Gómez fue la mejor anotadora de Guatemala con 19 puntos y Acina Isabelle fue la mejor de Guadalupe con 11 puntos.
Guatemala se enfrenta a Aruba el domingo por la mañana mientras que Guadalupe se mide con St. Kitts & Nevis para completar la fase preliminar del torneo.
“Su alto bloqueo nos hizo daño, pero supimos contrarrestar con una mejor estrategia, jugando unidas y siguiendo las instrucciones de nuestro entrenador. Pienso que nos enfrentaremos de nuevo en la final” dijo Diana Arias, capitana de Guatemala.
Isabelle Acina un poco emotiva por la derrota dijo “es muy difícil perder y luego de dos sets espectaculares es extraño. Guatemala presionó fuerte y nosotros no pudimos mantener el ritmo en el tercero con muchas faltas, pero esto aún no ha concluido.”
David Aldana, entrenador de Guatemala dijo “Guadalupe nos sorprendió porque las vimos jugar diferente contra Aruba. Luego de sustituir a Blanca Recinos por una lesión leve, Andrea Díaz cargó con el triunfo del segundo set. Nuestro servicio fuerte logró descontrolarlas.”
Jean-Louis primero quiso agradecer a NORCECA por organizar estos torneos, “sin su apoyo no podríamos estar acá”. También felicitó a Guatemala y habló sobre su equipo “mis jugadoras tenían miedo de perder en el tercer set, pero tiene que haber un ganador y un perdedor. El servicio de Guatemala fue muy bueno dificultándonos el juego.”
