Built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, alongside sister ship Olympic, building

Titanic did not go without problems.

My titanic story

The Titanic was built between 1909 and 1911

Titanic was built in a graving or dry dock. This is a large enclosed dock with all of the water

taken out so that workers can easily move around the outside of a ship. Harland and Wolff

had three of them - Hamilton, Alexandra, and Thompson. Thompson Dock was the largest

and was designed to accommodate Titanic

This is a picture taken for the internet of the dry dock of Harland and Wolff.

I think working on the titanic would have been difficult because you where working outside in all

types of whether conditions. You could be working at height and being part of 15,000 people

working on titanic would be very dirty and noisy.

different types of materials used when Titanic was built.

MATERIAL USED IN MANUFACTURE Titanic was constructed of: - “Thousands of one-

inch-thick mild steel plates” “Two million steel and wrought iron rivets and equipped with

the latest technology”. It was made up of low-grade metals that were more brittle

Steel is an alloy of iron and other elements, primarily carbon, that is widely used in

construction and other applications because of its high tensile strength and low cost.

There would be long steel beams and flat sheets all over the dry dock this made it a

dangerous place to be while you were working. During the construction of titanic several

workers died, there were 28 serious accidents and 218 minor accidents recorded by the firm.

After work was completed on titanic it was launched and set sail after testing for

Southampton.

April 10, 1912 - The Titanic sets sail on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to

New York. April 14-15, 1912 - The luxury liner hits an iceberg in the North Atlantic around

midnight and sinks in less than three hours.

At 12pm sharp we were getting ready to leave Southampton for New York. The large crowd

including my friends and family were cheering. The noise was deafening and could be heard

for miles it made me feel incredibly happy!

Here is a picture of my first-class bedroom on the upper deck of titanic. I have a wooden bed

with white cotton sheets. A large red leather seat, a table and two chairs and electric lights.

This is my bathroom on the titanic. I am lucky enough to have my own bathroom. In the

bathroom there is a marble sink, a steel bath, and a large mirror.

I have enclosed a video to show you what the facilities in first class were like.

This is what second class is like

The Titanic Second Class Passengers. The Titanic second class passengers enjoyed a

level of luxury that rivalled that of first class on other liners. Titanic was also the first ship to

have an electric elevator for second-class passengers. The following passengers are the

most well-known second-class travellers.

Third class accommodation on titanic

If you were lucky in third class, you might have a room with four bed’s you do not have a bathroom

of your own. You must share a bathroom with lots of other passengers.

Here are areas third class passenger’s accommodation

The RMS Titanic, a luxury steamship, sank in the early hours of April 15,

1912, off the coast of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic after

sideswiping an iceberg during its maiden voyage.

1.40pm - Titanic hits iceberg.

I heard a big bang and felt the ship move form side to side. I got out of bed to see what had

happened. I could hear lots of people moving around.

12.30am, 15 April 1912 - Lifeboats are lowered

I was told to get my life jacket and leave all my belongings behind and make my way to the lifeboats.

Page 6: Built building Titanic problems Titanic€¦ · The Titanic — billed as an unsinkable ship — hit an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912. Over 1,500 people died in the maritime

Lots of people around the lifeboats were pushing and screaming and shouting. The stewards were

saying women and children first. I got on the lifeboat which was lowered into the sea.

2.10am - Ship's lights go out.

So, we are now in a life boat in the sea moving away form the titanic. So that we would not get

sucked down with the titanic. Suddenly the lights went out it looked like a big dark shadow. The

captain was still on the ship

2.17am - Titanic breaks in two. .

It slowly lifted out of the water the rear end. Until the rear end was sticking up out of the water.it

fell back into the sea snapping the boat in half. We sore a big wave coming towards us it was

massive and people screamed.

2.19am - Bow begins to sink

Page 7: Built building Titanic problems Titanic€¦ · The Titanic — billed as an unsinkable ship — hit an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912. Over 1,500 people died in the maritime

The front of the boat began to sink to the bottom of the sea. The rear of the boat just sat there for a

second’s

2.24am - Titanic reaches the bottom of the ocean

The rear of the ship now slowly sinks to the bottom of Atlantic Ocean

The captain went down with the ship.

Of the 107 children travelling on the Titanic, almost half were killed when the ship sank – 50

children in total. 1 – the number of children from First Class who perished. 49 – the number

of children from steerage who perished.

The lifeboats are sitting on the clam sea there are no other ships to be seen

Rescue. The Carpathia arrived in the area at approximately 3:30 am, more than an hour

after the Titanic sank. Lifeboat number 2 was the first to reach the liner. Over the next

several hours the Carpathia picked up all survivors.

With in a hour we could see a ship on the horizon as the ship got closer I could see it was

named, THE CARPATHIA.

I was glad to get on the ship as I felt safe again. We were given a nice warm blanket, but I

was still cold other children were wearing wet clothes. I was given a hot cup of tea and a

biscuit. Now the titanic is at the bottom of the sea.
