R E M O D E L I N G

Robb and Lisa Bass had been thinking about remodeling their 1937 English Tudor and attended the Parade of Homes each year, looking for ideas. When the time came to make a decision, they chose Highmark for our custom detail work and ability to retain a home’s original character and style.

The plan we implemented for Robb and Lisa bumped out the back of their kitchen, adding a mudroom, main-floor laundry and new second floor master suite, all with touches that were unique to their home. For example, the new kitchen features a built-in window seat as well as a center island, professional appliances and tilework. A separate mudroom and laundry off the kitchen features a stacked washer-dryer, storage lockers and a potting sink. A new 3-season screen porch rounds out the main floor. Upstairs, the new master suite provides a private hideaway with high-end finishes and a heated tile floor.

The Basses love their new home, and were very happy with the process throughout. Says Robb: “Highmark makes you feel surrounded by a great team of people. We were so impressed with the entire experience.”

A highlight of the tour was Highmark’s 2-story, 3-bedroom eclectic family home in Edina. Visitors loved the charming barn-wood-clad entry hall, sliding French doors and sleek kitchen in cool neutrals. A big thank-you to Paul and Tonya Wilhoit for opening their home for this event.

fall, wallpaper is back in a big way. Forget old-school florals or mini-prints, however; the papers now covering walls in upscale homes are likely to be textured or printed in graphic patterns.

“Wallpaper adds a layered effect and can really liven up a room,” says interior designer Kristen Schammel. If the idea of doing a whole room scares you, try just one wall to create a focal point.

A group from Highmark packed meals for Feed My Starving Children in July. Highmark manned 5 tables, filling nearly 100 boxes. Urged on by Jim Moras, Highmark “won” the day with the most boxes packed.

Feed My Starving Children provides nutritionally complete meals for starving, malnourished and hungry people in nearly 70 countries around the world. Meals packed by Highmark were slated to go to South America.
